20.01.2022 Last night I was reminded of the quote 'Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity' from the Roman philosopher Seneca. However, I prefer the word 'blessings' - so blessings are what happens when preparation meets opportunity. Almost five years ago we began a dream called Huon Art. A gallery that showcased top quality art to local buyers from all over Tasmania. We based our gallery in the Huon Valley because that is our home and an area that we love. ... We handpicked 10 amazing artists and with hard work and lots of great administrative systems in place (thanks John) we slowly gained a reputation for wonderful affordable art that suited people's homes. In the past month we have had the opportunity to add another 5 artists. They are David Lake, Tony Ryan, Kate Smith, RJ Alexander and Stuart Clues. Both Kate and Stuart, at their own suggestion, have given Huon Art exclusive rights to be the only art gallery in Tasmania to sell their work. Preparation met opportunity yesterday when two of our new artists, whose work I have admired for many years, delivered their paintings. So today I have the joy of sharing the first of those paintings. This is a magnificent piece by RJ Alexander. Titled, 'Inflorescent' it is oil on linen and measures 120cms square. The beauty of RJ's art speaks for itself. Welcome to Huon Art, RJ. Huon Art is now blessed to have 15 fabulous and talented Tasmanian artists from the valley and beyond.

18.01.2022 The wait is finally over but it was SO worth it! For the past several months we have been asked if we had any new Michael Weitnauer artworks and I always replied that Michael was busy painting for Huon Art and that his new pieces would be available late August or early September. Right on cue Michael walked into the gallery yesterday with three fantastic new paintings and they are stunning.... Two of the paintings are 'View to Bass Strait’ The first one measures 76cms high x 152 kms wide The second painting measures 51cms high x 152cms wide. The third painting is 'Disappearing Tarn - Kunanyi/Mt Wellington' and it measures 51cms high x 152cms wide. All are synthetic polymer on canvas and the wonderful rich colours of this modern acrylic paint enhances Michael's strong bold brush strokes to make each painting dramatic as well as beautiful.

18.01.2022 It is Black Friday Sale Day (even though it isn't the 13th) and it seems like the whole world has gone mad on having a sale! Personally I'm not a fan of sales as I always feel it somehow takes away from the value of an item however sometimes stock has to be cleared...so Huon Art is having a sale! It is our RENOVATION SALE and it is totally necessary as we have to empty the paintings from our back viewing room. We need to be ready for the builders to come and transform the spa...ce. Our Renovation sale will be our one and only sale so right now we are offering a discount of between $500 - $1000 off (for larger works) on both Rachel Howell and Roger Murphy paintings. We thank both of these artists for allowing us to do this and it does not in any way detract from the beauty and standard of their art. We have only showcased two paintings here but there are a number of works available from both artists during the sale. Rachel's lovely oil painting 'On the Way to Huonville' was $3,750 but as part of the Reno sale is now available for $2,750. It measures 65cms high x 120cms wide. Roger's 'Douglas River' is a beautiful watercolour which measures 86cms high x 116cms wide (framed) It was $3,000 but is now available for $2,500. Huon art is all about bringing wonderful art home... even during a Reno sale!

16.01.2022 Artist Nigel Lazenby has created two wonderful new Unique State art pieces with 'Coming to Rest' and 'Galah in Focus'. The larger bush scene is 90cms high x 120cms wide and the Galah is 60cms square. Both are archival inks on acrylic and can be sold together or separately. They look fabulous on our walls so we know they are going to look fantastic in their forever home as the colours really come alive with the acrylic creating a wonderful brightness and lustre. 16.01.2022 It was an absolute joy to hang this wonderful painting in the gallery yesterday, as it is one of those paintings that will stop you in your tracks. Watercolourist, Margaret Coombes's amazing talent has captured the light across the shoreline in her latest painting titled, 'Sand Patterns, Lion Rock, South Coast'. It is a large painting that draws you into the scene and let's you linger. To those who have walked the South West Cape trail to surf at Lion Rock this statement pi...ece will invoke memories of a pristine part of Tasmania's wilderness. Measuring 78 cm H x 97 cm W Margaret's artwork has been beautifully framed to the highest standard by Frame Hobart at 164 Macquarie Street, Hobart.

15.01.2022 A new painting by Rachel Howell is a definite must see and if you have a wall big enough it is a definite must buy! Rachel's painting is magnificent with its textured layers and wonderful colours. This amazing artist has captured the beauty of the Jurassic rock formations and alpine plateau within the Ben Lomond National Park. It is a painting that will be loved within its new home for decades to come. 'Ben Lomond' is oil on linen and measures 140 cms H x 180 cms W.... We are open Thursday to Sunday from 10:30am to 3:30pm and have several new Rachel Howell paintings on display as well as works by our other fabulous Tasmanian artists.

14.01.2022 Sometimes a great painting just needs a great make over. This wonderful painting of Wentworth Street, by Steve Howie was in a small thin frame with a flat yellowish mat and ordinary glass. The glass was dulling the painting and visitors to the gallery often expressed no matter how much they loved the piece they hated seeing their reflection in the glass so at Huon Art we decided to take action. At our expense and with Steve's permission we took the painting to Matthew Hemmi...ng at Frame Hobart at 164 Macquarie Street and asked for a make over! We believe framing is important and we are delighted with Matthew's attention to detail in re-doing this piece for us. The new wooden frame is larger and the double shadow style mat is in white to pick up the white in the painting. The frame edges are in the new modern look of coloured spline joints which are placed at each corner. We chose orange to pick up the orange in the painting. The new look was then completed by using art glass which means no reflection nor will it fade. 'Wentworth Street' is acrylic on paper and the image measures 51cms high x 33cms wide. The framed size measures 54cms high x 71 cms wide and it is now back on our walls ready for its new owner. Huon Art is open Thursday to Sunday 10.30-3.30 This coming Sunday is Market day in Cygnet so along with a visit to the gallery and the fantastic cafes for breakfast/lunch we'd love you to come and enjoy the markets too.

12.01.2022 As we begin Huon Art's 4th winter we would like to wish all our artists, clients and followers, a beautiful season of creativity, warm doonas, hot chocolate, colourful scarves, ugg boots and snuggly jumpers, mulled wine, good books, fantastic music and great art to brighten up your home (come and see us if you have a blank wall that needs a special piece). The season also brings shorter days so Huon Art is now open Thursday to Sunday 10:30 am till 3:30 pm

11.01.2022 As an internationally award winning artist, Michael Weitnauer's paintings don't last too long on our walls. The last two sold within a few weeks of being hung - so if you like either of his new paintings then you need to be quick! 'Shorebreak' measures 51cms high x 152cms wide and is acrylic on canvas. 'Pieman River' measures 51cms high x 122cms wide also acrylic on canvas .... The gallery is open today and tomorrow from 10:30 and as Sunday is Market Day there is an extra excuse to enjoy the Huon Valley this weekend. Huon Art...bringing wonderful art home

11.01.2022 Today we welcome the beginning of Spring but here in the valley we woke to the beauty of a light frost with a sprinkling of rainbow shimmers across the hills. Spring mornings for us are still a promise to come. The timing however of receiving this lovely new work from artist, Scott Wilmot Bennett yesterday was a perfect way to celebrate the changing of the seasons. ... Scott's painting Titled 'Sun in the Morning: Hedgerow, frost effect' depicts the beautiful softness of both the frost and the hues and light of the early morning sun in his hometown of Ross. It is a wonderful painting that is going to look stunning in its forever home. Available now, acrylic on linen, measuring 76cms high x 102cms wide. Huon Art...bringing wonderful art home.

11.01.2022 We now have 4 small watercolours by our far north coast artist, Margaret Coombes available at the gallery. 'Rocks at Bicheno' measures 8cms high x 10cms wide and with framing it is 29cms high x 31cms wide. 'Lakeside - Lake St Claire' image 14cms high x 10cms wide, framed 37cms high x 30cms wide.... 'Towards Evening' image 9cms high x 12cms wide, framed 31cms high x 34cms wide. 'Mountain Study' 13cms high x 11cms wide, framed 36cms high x 33cms wide. These 4 artworks would look lovely displayed together but can be sold separately for $500 each or two for $850. The whole collection can be purchased for $1,500 The images were photographed under glass so are showing slight shadows from the camera but they are beautiful and it is worth a visit to view these tiny artworks from an artist that traditionally paints larger works. Each one is lovely as a single piece but grouped together would even be more special.

08.01.2022 Yesterday I walked into the sun drenched gallery and caught my breath at the beauty of the artwork displayed. Forgetting for a moment that I am the joint owner and curator of the gallery I stood there thinking, "This has to be one of the best art galleries in southern Tasmania." Why? ... Firstly, there are 12 wonderful professional Tasmanian artists who have their paintings on sale at affordable prices compared to many of the city galleries. The gallery showcases their work in a beautiful light filled large space which allows for the buyer to stand back and visualise the art work in their own home. It is also an art gallery that isn't cluttered with knick knacks so it is easy to walk around when choosing a piece. It is a gallery that caters for buyers who are looking for a special piece for their home rather than art collectors (although we do have a few of them too!) At the moment we are planning to expand the gallery space to allow for more Tasmanian artists to join Huon Art, so we have to empty our back rooms before the builders start. This means several pieces are now available at a special price. One of those lovely pieces is Brian Looker's 'Silver Bandits' It is a painting of the cheeky silver eye birds that steal the cherries each summer. This painting brings a smile to my face each time I walk pass it so I know that whoever buys this will love it for years to come. Please ring me on 0427 872 362 for the special price and size.

08.01.2022 Margaret Coombes's watercolours often have the strong colours of the Tasmanian landscape, while at the same time they have a gentle feel which makes them ideal of hanging in a spot where one goes to relax. A lounge or bedroom is the perfect space and Margaret's latest large painting will be no exception. Even the title is gentle, much like the wonderful artist herself. 'A Place to Rest' shows the beauty of the river as it meanders off into the distance and with its modern white gloss frame from Frame Hobart it looks absolutely stunning. It is available now - ready for its forever home. Huon Art...bringing wonderful art home.

06.01.2022 We are thrilled to announce that several new paintings have arrived at the gallery from our Hobart artist, Steve Howie. Steve's use of colour and architectural shapes make his work striking in the way he depicts the environs of Hobart and the River Derwent estuary. His smaller works look fabulous and are very popular but it is Steve's larger paintings that we are now delighted to present. Using the geometric lines of man made structures and the fluid shapes of nature, Ste...ve is able to observe the rules of perspective and randomness while using the full colour spectrum. One of the new larger pieces is 'Digney Street' (Dynnyrne, Hobart)which is acrylic on canvas measuring 52cms H x 90 W and beautifully framed in a modern white.

06.01.2022 We are excited to announce some changes that are happening at the gallery over the next few months. Our back rooms are being renovated into more usable hanging spaces. At the moment we have the main gallery room and a smaller room but this will all change as we open up several new rooms to allow us to display more paintings. With the changes we now need to empty our second viewing room of paintings, ready for the builders. This means the art being held there is heavily redu...ced so it's a good time to visit and take home a stunning painting. One such painting is Gerry Jensen's, 'Pots and Peonies' which is now being sold at half price. Measuring 50 cm H x 70cm W - it is a pastel beautifully framed under art glass. Please call Carlene on 0427 872 362 if you like to discuss the new price and visit the gallery this coming weekend for more opportunities to purchase some fabulous "back room" pieces. It is a win/win situation - you get some great art at a great price and we get to empty those walls ready for the renovations.

05.01.2022 Local Huon Valley artist, Robert Jackson's latest painting is now available at the gallery. 'Pindar's Peak' is an oil on canvas and measures 100 cms x 100cms. The painting of the mountain in the Southwest National Park would suit a modern house with its lighter tones and feel. Huon Art is open Thursday to Sunday from 10:30am to 3:30pm.

05.01.2022 Late Saturday afternoon will see us hang several paintings from our artist, Scott Wilmot Bennett. 'Breakthrough' is one of Scott's new paintings which captures the essence of an original convict built barn and showcases Scott's wonderful attention to detail. It is acrylic on canvas and measures 101cm H x 75cm W ... The barn is part of the ‘Ballochmyle’ Estate at Tunbridge, Tasmania. Situated on 125 acres the property includes a number of outbuildings as part of the complex and it is estimated that over 250,000 convict bricks were used in the build. Scott has painted the various colours within the convict bricks as part of the beauty of the old barn. Why not take a trip to Cygnet this Sunday to view Scott's amazing new pieces along with the art works of all our Tasmanian artists. We look forward to welcoming you.
