25.01.2022 Good morning! From 3pm today, the office will be closed for the remainder of this week while Anne-Marie is on annual leave. Due to the concerning spread of COVID-19 in Melbourne, NSW will temporarily shut its border with Victoria to contain the spread and to ensure the health and safety of all concerned. The border closure will be effective from mid night tonight.... At this stage, we hope to reopen the office on Monday 13th July at 9.00am providing Anne-Marie can obtain the appropriate working permit, given she resides in Victoria and will be traveling to NSW for work. The staff will work from home as they did previously until we know more and the phone will continue to be covered during core business hours (9am-4pm). Whilst this challenging time continues, please be reassured it is business as usual for us. If you have any concerns at all, please do not hesitate to contact the office. Take care, from the Huon team!

14.01.2022 In times of increased market volatility, its important to remember that no one asset or type of asset provides the best performance over all time periods. They tend to rise and fall at different times depending on economic, political and market factors. It can be extremely difficult to pick the top or bottom of a market cycle. Check out this quick video by Morningstar, which discusses market volatility and long-term investment fundamentals. In a nutshell, rational decision-making, especially in times of increased market volatility, can often make all the difference to the accumulation and preservation of wealth. If you have any questions, we are always here to help.

14.01.2022 Did you know that it is Financial Planning Week (from 5th - 11th October)! In 2020, we are celebrating the 20th consecutive edition of Financial Planning Week in Australia. It was also world Financial Planning Day yesterday. The global theme for 2020 is Live your today. Plan your tomorrow. In Australia, in line with the global theme, Financial Planning Week is focusing on raising awareness about how FPA members can help Australians to access financial advice for life. This ye...ar’s campaign focused on new research looking at how Australians are feeling about their money and life issues six months into the pandemic. (see separate post) Financial Planning Week is all about inspiring Australians from all walks of life and ages to consider their personal finances and find out how having a financial plan will provides greater peace of mind and security. We will encourage as many Australians as possible to take advantage of Financial Planning Week to consider their circumstances and think about what they want to achieve in their life, financially and otherwise, and explore what an qualified Financial Planner (like Anne-Marie) could do to help them. So feel free to share this post with family and friends. 13.01.2022 An important part of our advice process is to determine your attitude/tolerance towards risk. Take a look at this quick video which explains the importance of asset allocation. I.e. how much you invest in growth assets like Australian or International Shares/Property and defensive assets such as cash and fixed income. The aim of asset allocation is to decrease the risk of having all of your ‘eggs in the one basket’. Each asset class is expected to have different risk and re...turn characteristics and the right asset mix for you at any given point will depend largely on your time horizon. Therefore, you need to consider how long you will be investing to achieve your financial goals, your risk tolerance and how much you are willing to risk in exchange for return. As always, we are here to help with any of your questions.

12.01.2022 The Huon team enjoyed getting together over the weekend to brush up on our cooking skills! After a fun morning of cooking, we got to enjoy tasting the fruits of our labour overlooking the beautiful surroundings. The lunch was just amazing (no bias at all of course)! It is well worth the drive to visit this hidden gem. It was lovely to support a family-owned local business that has had to adapt to the various restrictions placed upon them this year.
