24.01.2022 Come for the 'coronavirus lockdown' door prize. Stay for the flyest grassroots action Brimbank has ever seen. #Huong4Harvester #vicLG2020 ... RSVP here: https://victoria.greens.org.au/brim_launch_20200813

23.01.2022 RIP to a Sunshine icon. I remember the green lasers cutting across the light pollution over the Cinema carpark at the opening of Sunshine Marketplace 20+ yrs ago. #MillenniumMan forever!

21.01.2022 About last night... Brimbank Council adopted a watered-down Climate Emergency Plan. I'm gutted. But Brimbank Climate Action are readying themselves to take grassroots action in the coming days. Hooray!... LIKE THEIR PAGE and join these legends.

20.01.2022 The Australian Greens Victoria have announced the candidates for the internal Greens Senate preselection. Sadly, I am not on that candidate list. I wanted to run and had thought hard about what I would bring to the Senate in these wild times of our institutions and systems failing us. I was ready to front the ‘Meet the Candidates’ sessions and face the grilling from our passionate members who rightly expect so much from our Parliamentarians. I knew I could draw on being an a...ctivist mumma and a working class woman of colour to illustrate the ways we Greens need to cut through. Who knew it would be section 44(i) of Australia’s Constitution that would preclude me from being the next Greens Senator for Victoria? I was born in Australia in 1983. I have never been to Vietnam, but I may hold Vietnamese Nationality by descent. And so there is a real risk that I would be disqualified from sitting in the Senate by section 44(1) of the Australian Constitution. To date, I have done all that I can to sort out this question of any Vietnamese Nationality I may have. But realising it was unlikely that I could have this question resolved within the timeframe of this preselection process, I withdrew my nomination last week. I join others affected by this undemocratic and racist section of the Constitution, which rules out so many of us from standing in the Australian Parliament, to represent Australians as we are today. Nevertheless, we have in front of us a strong field of candidates. Our party gets stronger and bolder through these sorts of contests - I feel proud and comforted by this fact. With absolute respect to all the candidates, especially all the wonderful Greens women, I’m putting my support behind Lidia Thorpe. Lidia speaks the truth. She is a Greens woman who has the breadth of activism and life experience needed to build our movement for a Green New Deal. She says what needs to be said. No more, no less. She has the courage unique to women of strong matriarchal lineage. Lidia knows the work that has gone into building the Greens movement and she will honour that in everything she does. Vote 1 Lidia Thorpe for the Senate.

20.01.2022 I travelled to the year 2029 last week and heard Scott Ludlam deliver this in person. Take a read of these breath-taking words. Ready to be further provoked? Check out the incredible Dispatches from #AssemblyForTheFuture in the link in the comments (including one from yours truly!). https://www.google.com//love-letter-from-2029-i-want-you-t

16.01.2022 Member ballots should have landed in your inbox this morning. Remember, our next Greens Senator needs to: CUT THROUGH a hostile media and a cooked Labor Party (and hold her own to lead us on solutions to the climate emergency, housing for all, workers and women's right) BRING IN THE MASSES of Australians who would not otherwise consider the Greens (I'm talking folks in the suburbs, the country, outside the inner city who think politics is irrelevant to them but suffer all ...the same) INSPIRE US to bring our best selves and deliver the Green New Deal within this next critical decade With respect to all the other candidates, I've watch a 10+ hours of the Meet the Candidates sessions. Our next Greens Senator needs to be Lidia Thorpe. There is no time to lose. Vote 1 Lidia Thorpe

16.01.2022 Know your rights.

16.01.2022 LET'S BE CLEAR, Premier Andrews himself made Adem Somyurek a Minister in December 2018 immediately after winning Government, and after various scandals and complaints. Are we to believe the Premier has not benefited from Somyurek's conduct? And those like him still in the party? Premier Andrews says he became aware of Somyurek's conduct when he watched 60 Minutes last night. The Premier claims he had no idea of the extent of this stacking and arrogance. ... The press asks: "How is this still happening at this level at this scale?" Somyurek brags about have 4000 members on his books ("about a quarter" of Labor's Vic membership). Premier Andrews has just said to a live press conference: - He's hauled Somyurek in and told him he's no longer part of the Andrews' team, no longer a Labor Minister at 9am. - He's written to ALP HQ to ask for Adem Somyurek to be sacked from the Labor Party. - Has sought assurances that MPs Robin Scott + Marlene Kairouz that they've done nothing wrong. They confirmed to the Premier "acted appropriately at all times", they can remain at the Cabinet Table, as Ministers. - He's referred the matter to Victoria Police and IBAC and refuses to answer questions about why he believes Kairouz word given her record in this sort of stacking. 03.01.2022 IMPOSSIBLE, UNTIL IT IS INEVITABLE I’ve been talking to locals for months about running for council. We need progressives to crowd out the egotists, apologists and bystander-councillors who have allowed bad behaviour pass without comments. The damage that the toxic Labor stackers and their apologists have done to local democracy in Melbourne’s suburbs is palpable. ... It’s an open secret, and we mustn’t forget that the Premier himself made Somyurek Minister for Local Government - setting the fox in charge of our chooks to entrench this corruption of democratic process via LG legislative reforms. If you’re watching this latest Labor saga and are hopeful this will naturally bring back progressive change, let’s talk. These moments have come before (google search: Telmo Languiller, Natalie & Haki Suleyman, scandals and drama and sacking of Brimbank Council) AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED. This moment, a rare point of disruption for Labor’s Stacking-As-Usual business, needs to be actively seized. I’m talking about us looking around to the local people we trust. Women who would not otherwise recognise themselves as our leaders. POC who are doing the real work to build community resilience and power. Together we need to let them know WE WILL BACK them to run and win and speak for us. It’ll be four tough years because Labor’s ‘power-brokers’ won’t yield quietly, and they play dirty. But we have each other. Tag someone who you reckon should run. DM me if bringing back community-led representation speaks to you, and you want to know what it takes to run and win. Let’s demystify politics and bring it home to the grassroots (us!!). Photo credit: Sunshine Diuris, SMH Mick Connolly https://www.smh.com.au//how-victoria-s-snow-in-the-paddock

01.01.2022 Congratulations to Victorian Greens members! A huge turnout of our grassroots members has chosen Lidia Thorpe as our next Victorian Federal Senator. Watch out Canberra!! Dinesh, Anna, Susanne, Nicole, Apsara & Willisa, David and Julian - we have loved getting to know each of you over these past few months. You've all done us so proud!
