21.01.2022 Today we remember those lost and affected by the devastating Black Saturday and Black Tuesday bushfires. Today marks the 12th anniversary of the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria - one of Australia’s most devastating bushfire disasters of all time. Today also marks the 54th anniversary of the Black Tuesday bushfires in Tasmania - one of Tasmania's worst natural disasters. ... We pause to remember those who lost their lives and were affected by these disasters, and we also thank all the emergency service members who offered endless support to those in need. #Remember

19.01.2022 Ahead of warming conditions forecast over the coming days, the TFS is enacting a permit embargo for southern Tasmania from 2am tomorrow 18 February 2021 The developing hot, dry conditions with strengthening winds forecast across the south of the state will increase the potential fire risk for the south of the state. The permit embargo will remain in place until 2am 20 February 2021 at this stage.... No permits will be issued through this period. Existing permits, or permit fires conducted over the last week are to be checked and fully extinguished where possible. Registration of burning of vegetation under 1 cubic metre will also be discouraged and TFS urges the public to take additional care with fires in the open, or operation of equipment that may cause accidental ignition of vegetation during this period. There are also campfire restrictions in place. For further information on these areas check https://parks.tas.gov.au/explore-/know-before-you-go/alerts TFS is continuing to monitor the daily update reports from the Bureau of Meteorology and we ask people to stay aware and up to date of the situation as there may be other restrictions and notifications over the next two days as the forecast develops. To report a fire, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. Check with your local council for additional burning restrictions. For information visit www.fire.tas.gov.au
19.01.2022 Have a hoppy and eggcellent Easter from everybunny at Huonville Fire Brigade
18.01.2022 A very lucky outcome this morning for the ranelagh residents. Check your smoke alarms, THEY DO SAVE LIVES. Great work from all crews involved https://www.facebook.com/158005167574263/posts/4200128120028594/
18.01.2022 Hey kids, do you know what's even better than seeing our big red truck with its sirens and flashing lights on? Being in bed as early as possible tonight. That way, while you're being very quiet, Santa and his reindeer can visit Tasmania. ... We have had reported sightings of a large sleigh on its way to Ho-Ho-Hobart. Parents - you've got this! From our family to yours we would like to wish the Huonville community a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. P.s see below for our holiday trading hours.
17.01.2022 The Tasmania Fire Service has enacted an embargo on current fire permits until midnight on Monday 11th of January. Click on the shared post for more information.
16.01.2022 If you're off to the shack this weekend it will be tempting to get the wood heater or open fireplace going. Chimneys and flues that have not been properly maintained can catch fire, and these types of fires have already destroyed homes in Tasmania this year. These things can help reduce the risks associated with fireplaces and wood heaters:... Have your chimney/flue professionally cleaned annually. Only burn wood that has been properly seasoned/dried, so it burns hotter and produces less smoke. Place a fire screen in front of fireplaces. Put logs in lengthways so they can’t roll out. Keep anything flammable, including your woodpile, at least two metres from the fireplace. And most importantly, have smoke alarms installed in every sleeping area - that includes your shack, boat and caravan. For more information about how to stay safe at your place this winter visit www.fire.tas.gov.au
16.01.2022 International Firefighters’ Day is observed each year on the 4th May. On this date you are invited to remember the past firefighters who have died while serving our community or dedicated their lives to protecting the safety of us all. At the same time, we can show our support and appreciation to the firefighters world wide who continue to protect us so well throughout the year. #IFFD #TFS #huonvillefirebrigade #dontalwayshavetimebutalwayshaveheart
15.01.2022 12 months since the start of black summer It is time to start preparing your properties now for the comming summer. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10158326399520552&id=213250965551
15.01.2022 Ahhhhh spring time, such a beautiful time of year. Everything is growing and lush with beauty. But let's not forget that spring time is also the perfect time of year to clean up our properties and get rid of the excess fuels laying around. With warmer tempretures coming in let's be ready. And remember if your going to be burning we would love you to register your burn although we do like to visit people in our community we try not to "make a scene" doing it
15.01.2022 The weather at this time of the year is fickle. One day the weather can be perfect for burning and a couple of days later it's warmer and the wind picks up, causing those burns to escape. TFS has seen an increase in escaped burns on private property over the last couple of weeks.... We encourage property owners to use favourable weather conditions to burn and reduce fuels to mitigate their bushfire risk, but this must be done safely . If you're planning to burn on your property you must be adequately prepared for the size of the burn and for the weather conditions you are burning in. You should also keep checking it in the days after it's been extinguished.

12.01.2022 Can we fit?? In addition to these measurements we are 7.1 m long. Is your driveway clear of overhanging branches? We need enough room to park and safely open doors and lockers. Therefore we require a clear distance of 4m wide and 4 m high.

11.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service has declared an end to the fire permit statewide from 2am tomorrow (Thursday 26 March). This means that anyone in Tasmania intending to light a private fuel reduction burn will no longer require a fire permit to do so. Even though permits are no longer required, landowners who plan to light burns on their property should:... be mindful of the weather be prepared with an adequate water supply have access to firefighting equipment be physically capable consult with the owners of neighbouring properties, particularly those with vulerable crops such as vineyards. This update brings the north and south in line with the north west which had the permit period revoked a fortnight ago. At all times burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws which must be adhered to and environmental laws which govern smoke emissions. Property owners planning to burn on their land should visit fire.tas.gov.au for further information. Call 1800 000 699 to register their burn to prevent an unnecessary visit from a local brigade.
10.01.2022 With things heating up on Monday, please be fire smart. In addition to the Total fire ban, an embargo on all permits will be in place from 2am on Saturday 23rd until 2am Tuesday 26th.

08.01.2022 On this day 19 years ago, 343 Firefighters ran into the World Trade Center doing their job and never returned. 60 Police Officers didn’t return home from th...at shift. 8 EMT/Paramedics heard their last call and didn’t return home. Today we remember their bravery and sacrifice.
07.01.2022 Congratulations to 3rd officer Steven Driessen and 4th officer Steven Fidler of the Huonville fire brigade on the completion of their remote area team (RAT) firefighting training. The two Steve's will join 18 others from the south of the state and 10 from the north in the new Remote area program designed for volunteers by the Tasmanian Fire Service. Remote area firefighting is hard arduous work that can be very challenging in many types of difficult terrain. These remote areas can be accessed by foot, helicopter or boat. We wish these two local volunteers all the best for the upcoming fire season.
05.01.2022 Coming in to winter this is a timely reminder to make sure your house is fire safe. We have attached a checklist for you and your family to follow to prepare for this winter. We have also attached some pictures of recent calls (near misses). Be carefully and be smart.
