24.01.2022 Well done to Hayley and Rikki-lee for setting themselves this sparing day as a goal at the start of the year and seeing it through. For the short time you've trained you both showed great skill and composure, congrats girls . Big shout out to coach Shannon for prepping these girls the last few months, you're a great coach and we love having you as part of the team at Hurricane PT. We all had so much fun at the #girlsfightback sparring event. Well done to all three girls for showcasing their skills for a good cause. Big thankyou to Tetsuko Thai Boxing & Thai-X-Fit Gym for organising the event we will definitely be back next year .... And last but not least big thankyou to my lil girl Charlotte, what a champ sleeping right through the fightshow

24.01.2022 What makes you happy? . Moving my body in a way that is challenging and still good for *me* makes me happy. ... add in some sunshine and nature and it's the perfect formula . . . #animalflow #sunshine #movement #nature #movementvariability #breathe #flow

24.01.2022 Great to know my clients are looking out for me also . Big thankyou to Heather for the mushroom coffee . I had a conversation with Heather only a few days into the year about how I'm not a big believer in NY resolutions.... I'd like to look at my resolution like a challenge to myself. I decided on starting with coffee. I'm usually only a once a day drinker of coffee but I do it and sometimes catch myself feeling like I cant live without it. So my challenge to myself was not to stop all together but to easily be able to cycle it, cut down and have days off caffeine without a hiccup. My beautiful client Heather decided to bring me some mushroom coffee which has much less kick from caffeine plus mushrooms that help fire up the brain. When we think about addiction the first most people think of is drugs, but really its having something, anything, that you feel like you cant do without - which means it has some control over your life and your happiness. Wouldn't it be great to just not be addicted to anything!? So if you found yourself without then you'd still be okay, you could still be happy... This could be a life long process really to find all of those things I may be addicted to... but I thought I'd start with coffee. What have you found that you are addicted to? Even a healthy addiction like movement in a certain way? Like Muay Thai was for me for years. Can you cycle it? Can you take a chunk of time off and still be okay? Did it even make you feel better giving it up? What did you learn about yourself?

23.01.2022 It's fight week for this guy Jordan Godtfredsen (KaoSok Muay Thai). Next Saturday night he will be gearing up to jump in the ring with Thailand's Dennapho Numponthep, in the Rebellion Muaythai 23 MAIN EVENT! Jordan's been training hard and he's looking strong and ready to leave nothing behind. This is a huge fight V's a very tough Thai opponent which takes him one step closer to that world title shot next year! So if you're keen to see what is set to be a cracker of a fight... get on and support our WA Champ. I can't wait to see all of that hard training pay off buddy you've got this . 23.01.2022 How does the saying go "You've got to be in it to win it!" When it comes to Muay Thai getting into the ring is a huge feat in and of itself. It takes dedication, sacrifice and fortitude! But walking away with a clean win and the belt well that = happy days all round .... Huge Congratulations to my strength client @Shannon.I.peek (Bailey FT) for defending her State Title belt last weekend. You legend, too sa-trong . #muaythai #strongfirst

22.01.2022 Congratulations to Trent who I have nominated as the stand out client for our last 8 week program. I love that every week Trent rocks up to his sessions focused and paying attention to his set up and technique. Any feedback I have given him the week before on technique is always put into practice each session moving forward . Within this last program Trent has nailed his goal to improve his cross country run times, winning overall in his year group at school . He has ...also improved his turkish get up to 16kg, squats to 12kg double kettlebell front squats for 5 reps and a 60kg dead lift 5 reps. Despite facing challenges with his health. I love that this only inspires him to be consistent and be in the gym for his two sessions a week, to take on new challenges in his athletics goals and to always set the bar higher. Trent has felt the benefits first hand strength training has had on his body and his mental clarity/mindset to show up in the same way to school everyday .... Focused and ready . What a champ . 22.01.2022 Moving well, learning about movement, the brain and our bodies, throwing bells around, swinging, snatching, cleaning, pressing... . ALL of these things put a huge smile on my face and I'm grateful as fuck to be back here! It's been quite the journey to come this far . . Huge thanks to these legends Shaun,Tim @hardstyle_method, Michael @nutritionwithmike and my buddy for the course Flavio . Cheers for letting me pick your brains and giving me tips and tricks over two days of... the Strong First Level 2 cert. . I am now proudly recertified as a Strong First coach passing my level 1 cert and passing all of the techniques for the level 2 . . The best part. The part that keeps me coming back for more and keeps me hooked is that this journey to mastery never ends. I have swiftly developed the same for kettlebells that kept me hooked on Martial Arts/Muay Thai for decades. The love for developing #skills in movement that requires you to focus, practice, try, fail and repeat. . Last but not least, thanks to my man Clem @tactical.primitive for simply being there for me in some uncertain times as I paved my way back to strength postpartum, you're the best . #strongfirst #strength #movement #mastery #thejourneyneverends #getonthepath #fun #snatchtest #kettlebellsnatch #learning #movement #ptlife #canningvale #kettlebells #curiosity #courage #perseverance

22.01.2022 I spent over a decade thrashing my body to be the best fighter I could be taking me to three world titles, but I was far from healthy. In saying that I have no regrets my injuries along the way taught me to explore different styles of movement, smarter ways to train and to really be aware of what I am feeling in my own body so I can best teach this to my clients. Now I am on a whole new journey of learning, two months post partum. I now have a better understanding of what ...a female goes through pre and post natal. I find myself asking how I could ever have taught my clients pelvic floor excersises as well as I could now? I have literally been a sponge for information learning from the best Taryn Watson, Marika Hart, John Polley, and Anna-Skye. The more I read and learn from the experts, put this into practice in my own training, the better I can pass this information on to my clients. Why? because I'm aware of the hurdles I have over come to improve the movement in my own body. I can easily strip any movement back to basics so my clients know what they should be feeling when they train. I am proud as a coach to take my clients who have never lifted before to a level where they are now lifting heavier than me. It's the same when I train a fighter in strength. How amazing is it that I have practiced all of this on my own body first. Now the fighters I train don't have to smash their bodies in strength training and be out of a fight with injury. They train smart and still achieve great results without burning out. In retiring from fighting I have found the same level of passion in learning and teaching others. I have no desire to compete in any sport now. I simply love working on my technique in various movements, assesing how this effects/improves my posture and how I move through everyday life. Lucky for me the clients I attract are on the same path, be it fighters or office workers. They want to train in a way that helps them move better for life and avoid injuries and nothing makes me happier . See more

20.01.2022 There is a bigger picture to training your body to be the best it can be. Some days it's about testing your limits, other days it's about fine tuning your weaknesses or simply breathing and moving to relax. The tension you hold in your body be it neurological or a lack of flexibility can hinder your performance in life or as an athlete. The key to performance is learning the balance between tension and relaxation. I love implementing the animal flow sequences with my clien...ts to improve the proprioceptive link through opposing limbs and to strengthen and stretch through all of the fascial lines. Depending on where each individual client is at at the time. It can be good as a warm up, in between strength training or as a full body workout on its own. Nadine for example trains in Muay Thai and works at a desk. So she spends a lot of time in a position with her shoulders forward over the course of a week. Therefor she will benefit from opening up and stretching out through her hips and shoulders. When you are looking for feedback from your workouts keep it simple. We tested Nadines rotation which improved post workout and the simple question "Do you feel better?" Yes Winning If you are interested in how you could implement strength and movement training to improve your performance in life. Then please comment below or send me a PM. See more

20.01.2022 Feeling strong for this period of my life and pretty happy to at least be back here 50kg DL and 14kg TGU. I have been through an extensive rehab period postpartum and the last few months has seen me shift my mindset to improving my selfcare routine and to simply practice strength. ... I know that navigating pelvic organ prolapse takes facing and shifting your fears on a daily basis. Each and everyday I am proving that with slow and steady progressive overload our bodies can become strong for life and strong for all of the requirements motherhood throws our way. I'm so stoked to see my consistency has lead to progress! #snatchkettlebells #kettlebells #pelvicorgaprolapse #strength #postpartumfitness #postnatal #mumfit #selfcare #practice #progressiveoverload #progress #strength #strongfirst #keepgoing

19.01.2022 So awesome to see my client Jacqui stop in for some training as she passes through Perth again on her caravaning trip around W.A. . I've loved getting messages from her along the way, telling me about all of the amazing highs she has encountered whilst checking out this beautiful country. . Yesterday she was telling me about some of the awesome things she has achieved on her trip; helping to unhook a heavy trailer, ... hiking up and down large gorges, along with walking everyday she has even roped her husband into working out with her on their holiday . . It's so great to see that excersise and good nutrition have become non-negotiables for you, even when you are on a holiday. If there's one goal of mine as a PT it's this . To give my clients the *skills* and strength to enter the path of continuous improvement with or without me by your side. . We loved having you back for this pitstop Jacqui. Enjoy the rest of your adventures and discovering the beauty and the natural highs W.A has to offer . See more

17.01.2022 Huge congratulations to Jordan Godtfredsen (Kao Sok Muay Thai) who stepped into the ring over the weekend on Rebellion Muaythai in Melbourne V Tum (Luktum WinnerMuaythai). Jordan unfortunately didn't get the win but it was a very close margin and an all out war till the end. I'm so impressed at how well Jordan has done considering only six months ago he had a disc injury to his lower back. Two months after that he started on as a strength client at Hurricane PT. ... I love that Jordan came to me with an open mind and the understanding that something needed to change. He has put in the work with us and behind the scenes to rehab his injury by improving his movement patterns, strengthening his foundations and stabilisers and rebuilding his overall strength. Jordan has jumped straight back in on top delivering two highly entertaining bouts against two very tough Thais. Last month v's Duk from Bailey Fitness in the Domination 4 man and last Saturday v's Tum a who has managed to stay undefeated against all of his high level Australian opponents. Congratulations Jordan on coming back against the toughest in your division. Looking forward to seeing you continue to improve .

17.01.2022 When you make decisions, EVERY DECISION, think. Think about where that decision leads and what that decision will make you become. And then, SELF DETERMINE. ... CHOOSE. What will make you a better person? Even in situations where you feel you have no choice at all, you still have one last freedom... To choose your own attitude IN ANY GIVEN SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES. Keep that choice. Keep that freedom. That hard choice. THE DISCIPLINED CHOICE. And with the discipline to make the right choice, MAINTAIN YOUR FREEDOM. - Jocko Willink (Jocko Podcast #78, closing thoughts) Art Credit: Banksy Monkey, CC BY 2.0 kalidoskopika

16.01.2022 "Our daily posture, the things that we do and the ways that we move are causing us to change and to develop a new body. This body can be better and more athletically efficient. Or your body can be adapting in an unhealthy way to support repetitive, unathletic daily movements. Your brain is aware of all of this on a subconscious level, and your brain wants you to be an efficient athlete, capable of surviving and reproducing in this hostile world". Jay Armstrong

16.01.2022 One thing I miss about training in a gym; the cable machine One thing I don't miss; training with the aircon cranked up That's why I love the home gym we've built with the fresh air + the elements is only optimising your health in my opinion. ... I can't remember the last time I had a cold but here I am on holidays stepping in and out of aircon and three days in I came down with a head cold. Given that I wasn't feeling great I kept this session light, but I loved varying it up and playing around with the cable machine again. You absolutely can still use bands to do these exercises but the cable give you that resistance throughout the whole movement #movementvariability #tuningin #core #strength #insideoutapproach #movement #melbourne #hotelworkout #holidays #alwaysmoving

16.01.2022 Just had a listen to this awesome interview with the humble champ Jordan Godfredsen. Highlighting what it takes to be a fighter, the sacrifices, the training and the need for balancing that out with recovery. I love his enthusiasm and attitude toward this sport. For a great example around 39 mins into this interview Jordan gives a great run down of his win V Apisit . Thank you for the shoutout champ .

15.01.2022 Huge congratulations to my client Jordan (Kao Sok Muay Thai Gym) who convincingly took the win in his fight on saturday night against another tough aussie Roy Wills. An amazing effort after injuring his back only a year ago. He has come a long way building strength and stability with the kettlebell focused training we teach at Hurricane PT in only a year! This win sets him up to fight for the WKN world title belt. Can't wait for this . Congratulations Jordan

15.01.2022 Working on refining the swing technique with my client and fellow coach, Cass @casshiitthat. . I love incorporating the swing into my clients programming. The swing is a dynamic movement that somewhat mimics the static jump, minus the impact . Which leads to many of the same improvements in power and athleticism, whilst also minimizing injuries. . When it comes to cueing I like to "layer" the the swing. Giving my clients one thing to focus on at a time and then adding a new ...cue with the next round. . Our brains are only able to remember a handful of things in our conscious mind. So the goal is to pattern each cue until they become second nature. . That to me is the beauty of strength. Some days you can roll up to 'train' but most days we simply 'practice'. . Either way, when it comes to the swing if you want the most bang for buck and a poppin booty, then take the time to focus on HOW you execute the movement . . If you're chasing a sexy swing then find yourself a certified Strongfirst coach . If you're in my area hit me up! . 14.01.2022 My amazing client Jacqui who despite now living two hrs away is staying in the loop with us at Hurricane PT. I have continued to program for Jacqui and when she's back in town we catch up for a session or two. Jacquie is working her way back up in this peaking cycle with 3 deadlifts at 80kg. Well done .

13.01.2022 Huge congratulations to my strength client @jordan_godtfredsen who proved too strong for his Thai opponent Dennapho Numponthep in the main event on Rebellion in Melbourne over the weekend. It was such an awesome display of Muay Thai with Jordan pushing forward the whole fight. Sealing the win by knocking his opponent down twice in the 5th round. Super exciting to see you more than secure that world title shot next year buddy .... #muaythaifighter #strongfirst

12.01.2022 Best way to start the weekend hanging out with good friends in the #homegym. Love having the home gym, no travel time just get out and get it done . Strength is a skill and if we practice we will get stronger its that simple and this is the part I love, the practice . It was the same for me in Muay Thai, it was the training that kept me in the sport so long. Some fighters just love the fight but for me I always loved the process of getting to the ring, there was no cuttin...g corners, just discipline and the rewards. Being post partum has reminded me that strength comes in many forms, no just how much you lift. I have had the time to experience pilates and animal flow in this time. All of the moves are body weight, yet some are super challenging. It pays to keep the foundations strong. And sometimes, when life stacks up, taking your foot off the pedal and spending time on your foundations is exactly what you need to recharge. It's been a fairly emotional week for all of us, so today was a light day full of laughter with these two, which always makes things brighter . Stay healthy .

12.01.2022 Nearly everyone from the fit fam has had a chance to meet lil Charlotte We are so grateful to be surrounded by a community of people committed to improving themselves and inspiring each other every day. Charlotte is one lucky little girl to have this supportive network around her from such a young age. Here's a pic with her and aunty Jacqui loving the cuddles

11.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who made it along to our first talk in our Behavioural Based Nutrition series . We believe gaining skills in nutrition is no different to gaining skills in strength. We need to start where we are at individually. Even if it takes you months to successfully track, shop, plan and cook your food each week then that's okay. You are training yourself to follow through, to keep your promises to yourself, to accomplish the goals that will lead to a healthier... you. When you get used to keeping your promises to yourself, you become self-motivated, driven from the inside and that is our goal . We don't believe that any food choice is morally right or wrong, simply that some choices take us closer to our own personal health goals and others will take us further away. Often we have the nutritional knowledge yet that doesn't necessarily lead change, why? Because resistance in the form of a variety of different obstacles and roadblocks can and will challenge us on our path to change . So I'm looking forward to navigating and brainstorming our way through these roadblocks with this awesome group in our part two of the series. Anyone keen to join us, comment below and I can add you into our Be Water Wholesome living FB page for more details and ongoing inspo

10.01.2022 Barb has been nominated as our standout client over the last 10wk program. Barb trains twice a week with us and rarely misses a session. 09.01.2022 Check out this champ rocking her black eye and a bottle of baileys.Huge congrats to Shannon who got the win in her state title fight over the weekend . It was a very tough week for her leading into the fight, so as a bit of a distraction we put up the christmas tree for Charlotte in the lead up to the weigh in. Thanks girl, she loves her tree . ... You show all the signs of a true champion strong as f#@ck and always humble. Once again huge congratulations to the new state champ from everyone at Hurricane PT.

09.01.2022 If change feels overwhelming, don't focus on what you want to stop doing, start with what you can add in! This applies to everything from improving your self-care routine to improving your nutrition. Add in the things that you KNOW when you do them, you feel awesome. Everything from meditation and journal writing to rolling out... do them more often because you're worth it . ... As for nutrition add in protein, the building blocks of life and add in more veggies. You can't go wrong with adding in more of the good

07.01.2022 Big Congrats to my client Heather . Heather kept up her training through christmas and new year with one of her strength goals being to nail a chin up. This is her first attempt after progressing her way to this point over the past few weeks. In her mind this was the "impossible" a few weeks back. Great to see you reach this goal and we will be seeing more of these soon .

07.01.2022 What I respect about this guy is that he is very real and down to earth. I have been working with him to guide his training and programing over the last 7 months after he injured his back (slipped disc) 9 months ago. This is a scary path to walk! Facing the possibility of a forced retirement from Muay Thai.... but in true Jordan style he has done the work. His daily mobility work and stability excercises have gradually progressed along with his #strength and they have been a...dopted as a *forever* thing so that he can avoid finding himself in that place again. Sometimes it takes that emotional shock of "oh shit this could really be it", for us to pay more attention to our bodies and adopt longevity as a value. Rather than the "I'm invincible" attitude that most fighters have. It puts *health* and life into persective. Jordan was telling me about all the funny looks he gets when doing his excersises like a bird dog and kettlebell arm bar at his local commercial gym. Where stability excersises may be considered a waste of time or people avoid them incase they look funny?? I had to laugh at Jordans response "you just go do you alright mate, I'm fine here I'll do me". I love this and it's exactly what I teach all of my clients when they are rehabing from an injury or simply upgrading their current movement patterns. Don't be bothered by or distracted by where other people are at with their training around you or what they are doing in the gym. You only have one body and you want it to do you well, right to the end! Focus on your own journey... Ask yourself, what can you do #today #everyday to be where you want to be? Then, the next time you hit the gym, clear your space and YOU DO YOU !! #upgradethesoftwarewithoutdamagingthehardware #bestrongfirst #strength #muaythai #keepitsimple #noteasy #longevity #trainingforlife #everyday #youdoyou

06.01.2022 Some of the crew from our Tuesday/Thursday 1 on 1 clients #gettingafterit. No such thing as seasonal training for these guys. They understand that strength is a process and the simplest commitment you can make to yourself is to show up and do the work and you will get results!

06.01.2022 Excited to have just completed my Precision Nutition Level 1 cert today . After years of going all in on strict nutrition for 6-8 weeks in the lead up to a fight...resulting in me realising my absolute for food post fight . I now realise that 8 week challenges simply don't sit well with me. Going all in for a few weeks can be great as a 'challenge', but you can't go all in all the time. After a lifetime on the other side of the fence I now appreciate balance in my training and nutition and am excited to help my clients find the realistic and sustainable approaches that work for them . #trainingforlife

04.01.2022 Excited to be working on a new mini course that will be coming your way soon . # I am combining my StrongFirst and Precision Nutrition certifications with over 15 years experience in Muay Thai to teach those who love building skill as much as I do. # This mini course will be skill focused giving you life long knowledge. ... # I will be teaching you; - The skills of Muay Thai - Fundamentals of strength - How to change your relationship with food - How to deliver the nutrition your body needs and still live a little along the way . # Knowledge is the power you need to see long lasting changes. Once you've got it, you've got it, its like riding a bike!. # This is not the average 6 week 'challenge'. I will not be handing you a cookie cutter diet and training program. I will be targeting YOUR individual body and YOUR own personal relationship with food. # If this sounds like something that appeals to you and you live in the Canning Vale area, please PM me. Start date and times to be confirmed. Only 6 places, so don't miss your spot . See more

03.01.2022 Congratulations Jacqui on hitting a new 3RM in her Sumo deadlift at 80kg . When Jacqui first started training with me she had difficulty understanding the movement of shoulder packing. So proud of how far she has come sticking with the activations, stretches and neural techniques we have given her to work on. It was such great feedback for us as her coaches to have Jacqui view the video and pick her own technique faults, particularly in her final lift where her butt asce...nds slightly and leads the lift. This is what we aim for as coaches at Hurricane PT. To build our clients to a level of conscious awareness where they can monitor their own training outside of our sessions together and feel safe and confident in doing so. Well done Jacqui See more

01.01.2022 If anyones looking for something fun to do this Saturday get yourselves down to watch Jordan Godtfredsen and Roy face off in the ring . This fight has been a long time coming with the winner going on to fight for the world title strap. It's been awesome seeing Jordan's strength grow over the last year which has helped him progress back to this point after a previous injury. ... 'Simple, not easy' and 'keep the goal the goal' have been the mantras, supporting his hard out work with his team at Kao Sok Muay Thai Gym. Can't wait to see two of Australia's best battle it out. Both boys hail from WA's south so no doubt the crowd will be going off for this one... Get amongst it! .
