22.01.2022 NEW(ish) TEAM MEMBER ALERT!!! We are delighted to announce that Tegan Barthelson has joined our team from the start of 2020. Tegan graduated from La Trobe University over 10 years ago and has been working locally in private practice. She joins the team at Hurst Podiatry with extensive experience in biomechanics, diabetic assessment and management, as well as nail surgeries, kids podiatry and general care. Tegan's love for sports (playing and watching) helps her diagnose and ...manage sporting injuries. After suffering many ankle and knee injuries herself she knows how much people want to get back to playing and she can help them to do so. Tegan grew up in Mooroolbark and still lives locally and she loves being able to provide Podiatry to her community and help people get back on their feet and improve their health! When Tegan isn't in the clinic she is spending time with her family and going away in her family's new caravan(covid permitting)! Welcome aboard Tegan, if you'd like to make an appointment to see Tegan please ring us on 5962 4401 or you can book online at https://www.hurstpodiatry.com.au/copy-of-request-appointment See more

14.01.2022 Sore heels? Here's 5 simple things that might help get you springing out of bed again. If you've got a sore heel there's a good chance you might be suffering from Plantar Fasciitis. It's among the most common things we see and very often it can be addressed or improved with these 5 simple tricks.... 1. Heat To heal we need blood flow heating up an area not only loosens up the sore tissue but also brings in extra blood flow which helps healing. A wheat pack for a few minutes at a time each day can make a world of difference. 2. Topical Anti-Inflammatories Rubbing in a product like fisiocrem (available at our clinics) can help manage the inflammation in your heel. Fisiocrem is natural (contains Arnika) quite inexpensive and can be a big help. 3. Footwear Getting your footwear right goes a long way towards helping out with managing heel pain. If your foot isn't supported and getting carried correctly all sorts of problems can happen. We love working with companies like The Running Company Lilydale to make sure you've got the right shoes on. 4. Stretches Calf stretches (gastrocnemius and soleus) as well as arch stretches can be very helpful if performed a couple of time a day.Tight calf muscles can mean that the heel leaves the ground early which puts pressure on the arch. 5. Massage Using a foot roller or hard ball like a hockey ball can be very helpful at managing your pain as well. Rolling the ball firmly under your foot from ball to heel for a minute or two at the time can be very soothing. If you're suffering from heel pain give these tips a go, heel pain can be extremely painful and stop us doing the things we love. On top of these easy therapies we also have a range of other treatments available at our clinic like orthotics, shockwave therapy, braces, moon boots, dry needling and an array of physical therapies. If your putting up with heel pain let us help or if someone you know is struggling tag them so they can get some help. Don't put up with pain ring us on 5962 4401 or follow the link to book online. https://www.hurstpodiatry.com.au/copy-of-request-appointment

04.01.2022 COVERUSE INJURY???? We're seeing a lot of people coming to our clinics at the moment with injuries from recent efforts to start running and exercising again given the amount of time we're all spending at home. In our enthusiasm to get moving people are often not managing the rate that they increase their activities at as a result we're seeing a lot of sore ankles, heels, knees and feet. The safest bet is not to try an increase your load by more than 10% in any given week o...r even better to create a carefully managed running program. We also suggest making sure that you're wearing the right shoes and if needed orthotics all our podiatrists can help with any of these concerns. If you're experiencing any foot and ankle pain or not sure if you're building up your exercise loads at the right speed give us a call on 5962 4401 or visit hurstpodiatry.com.au and we can help you plan to get to your goal and help you exercise painlessly.

02.01.2022 Happy Friday from all our team, enjoy your weekend!!
