10.01.2022 The month of October is renowned for Halloween and one of the first thing that comes to mind are the large bright orange pumpkins. Not only are pumpkins delicious and make for some creative decorations, they also help ward off some creepy crawlies! In Chinese Medicine pumpkin seeds or Nan Gua Zi are sweet and warm in nature and is traditionally used to expel intestinal parasites such as tapeworm and roundworms. Studies of it's biochemical properties have suggested that the presence of Cucurbitacin are responsible for getting rid of these nasties. Due to its warm and sweet properties, despite being a purgative, it is also tonifying and gentle on the Qi. They enter the Stomach and Large Intestine meridians and like most seeds type herbs are high in oils which help with bowel movement!
