25.01.2022 One for the grown ups
24.01.2022 It's a paradoxical season; one where we find our schedule full but our social lives empty. Where we experience isolation and loneliness yet lack the time and energy to pursue relationships. Where even if we did find ourselves able to summon the elements needed to socialise, the chances of coordinating any moments of time with our parent friends are zero to none.

19.01.2022 The new rules regarding face masks have come into effect today. You must wear a mask that is fitted around the nose and mouth. You can no longer use only a sca...rf, bandana or just a face shield. Here is a helpful guide we have created, or, if in doubt, visit https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-masks-vic-covid-19. 18.01.2022 In our #abuseprevention training for adults - staff, parents, carers - we acknowledge that abuse can be physical, emotional, by neglect, and also sexual. Emotional abuse is an ACE (Adverse Childhood Experience). The ACE study defines emotional abuse as a parent or other adult in the household often swearing at you, insulting you, putting you down, humiliating you, or acting in a way that made you afraid that you might be physically hurt.

17.01.2022 A man wanting to jump off a bridge in London was talked down by absolute strangers who proceeded to hold him for an hour until help arrived to get him down safe...ly. Look at that grip. Look at the care, compassion, selflessness, and determination shown by complete strangers to a hurting human being. We need more of this in the world.

15.01.2022 #2020 has been an extremely tough year for small business. We have not had any school programs since March, and face-to-face sessions are still very rare as schools and kindergartens try to finish the year in their new #Covid_safe normal. Thanks to all our fans and followers for sticking with us. We’re open for bookings for 2021 - meanwhile we’d appreciate it if you review or rate us and, as always, spread the love
15.01.2022 I was 6 when mom suffered a miscarriage. When she told me, ‘God decided to keep your sister,’ I sobbed. A few years later, she told me the truth; that the misc...arriage took place due to internal bleeding. At the age of 13, mom explained periods and pregnancy to me. That’s when I started buying pads for her. But at the shop, everyone would look at me as if I’d lost my mind. Once, I asked a shopkeeper for Ultra pads, and he gave me Ultra cigarettes. When I told him I wanted pads, he was shocked. People who saw me carrying pads would ask, ‘Iska kya karega bhai?’ Around then, I read an article about thousands of women dying annually because of the lack of menstrual hygiene. I decided to launch a pilot project called WASH to educate people on menstruation. I got 9 friends on boardwe went to a basti in Dehradun where we did a street play and distributed pads. 25 women attended our workshop; they called me Doctor Babu! They opened up to us and said they couldn’t afford pads they could either eat or buy pads. So I went home and began researching affordable pads I spoke to doctors, female friends and read case studies. I realised that the best solution was to make pads at home. So our team made 35 pads using cotton. In our next workshop, we distributed materials so they could make them on their own. We did this in villages across India and before long, women started selling these pads for Rs.10 in their villages; it became their source of income. I remember after one of our workshops, a little girl hugged me. She cried and said, ‘Bhaiyya, maine socha mein mar jaungi.’ She’d gotten her period for the first time and thought she’d bleed to death. I was devastated. We started providing counselling to women so that they could openly talk about their issues; we got counsellors and nutritionists on board. At another workshop, a woman asked me, ‘Aapko bhi hota hai?’ I was shocked. That led me to start ‘Breaking The Bloody Taboos’, a campaign under which we held a workshop inside a temple; 50 menstruating women attended. The WASH project is now active in 6 states and we’ve reached over 1.5 million women; we’re working on expanding to more parts of the country. We’ve even started digital pad making workshops. But it's very hard to break through the stigma even today, I get threat calls from strangers saying, ‘We’ll beat you if you spoil our women.’ I just say, ‘I won’t stop,’ and hang up. If they abuse more, I ask them to think about how they came into the world through their mothers’ wombs, and then hang up. We have a long, long way to go. All I know is that if we even want to come close to empowering women, we need to save their lives first. See more

13.01.2022 Is this offensive? Would it be less offensive if it was a man and woman? - More than 26,000 people have signed a petition protesting this Cadbury’s Creme Egg advert, which features two men kissing. - The fact that so many people have a problem and feel the need to spread hate just reiterates the need for visibility like that shown in the advert in the first place. 13.01.2022 During our puberty programs we know how important it is to talk about how the genitals change with the surge of hormones associated with this phase of development. For people with a penis and scrotum we might mention that , as well as pubic hair, the penis will typically grow thicker and longer while the scrotum grows as the testicles enlarge. It also becomes rougher in skin texture, wrinkly and hairy. Read in the article about the changes we highlight when we talk about puberty and all parts of the vulva. It’s SO important that young people know they are normal looking and that genitalia are as diverse as people are.

06.01.2022 This article by Briony Scott principal of Wenona about sexual assault and consent in response to the hundreds of allegations of rape experienced by former Sydney schoolgirls. Together, as a community, as a society, we can all do so much more. Young people learn by watching. They look for cues as to how to behave in situations where they have little experience.....They learn how to be good people by watching adults, and learning what matters. @BrionyScott

04.01.2022 "In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions: "When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop being comforted by the sweet territory of silence?" Gabrielle Roth

02.01.2022 Have a look at the video in this blog post. It’s has great examples of young men enjoying life along the safety continuum. Unfortunately much of society still expects our ‘boys’ to be action focused rather than emotional beings - and this can create undue pressures on them. A really interesting read. (Can we please dispense with the ‘girls too’ snd ‘all kids’ comments. We know, we know. But this blog by this author is about ‘boys’. )
