Heres our lovely friend Phoebe at Hyams Beach Cafe waiting for you to go and have a delicious brunch or lunch after the white sands walk from Vincentia to Hyams - all of which is thankfully untouched by the fires. If you get down here to JB soon, youll have the beach all to yourselves!

21.01.2022 I just put this on the Frequently Asked Questions section of the BnB website. "Is it safe to come after the 2020 bushfires? Yes! Jervis Bay and the almost all of the Shoalhaven towns and villages were thankfully untouched by the fires. The national parks have reopened, the bush along the coastal sections is just as it was before the crisis, all the shops and restaurants and cafes and cruises and activities in Huskisson and JB are open for business and waiting for you to come... back! The government, the council and the Rural Fire Service are all actively encouraging everyone to return to Australia and specifically the NSW south coast. You can get here from Sydney or Canberra or the Southern Highlands now. If you come soon (I am writing this January 14th 2020) you will be lucky enough to have empty beaches and the best seats at the cafes. Even if you cant come soon, its a good idea to book into the future as there is a HUGE national campaign to get people back, so hopefully we will be very busy again. We are encouraging everyone to think of vouchers as an option too - they make a lovely gift and last a year. 2 night minimum for $500 can be used anytime except Easter Christmas and long weekends. Also - think of buying vouchers or purchases from your favourite South Coast shops, activities, (or restaurants) by phone - we are all suffering having been in the closed zone for the what is usually the busiest 2 weeks of the year. Trying to get costs down as things are a bit hairy scary at the moment on the empty south coast. COME AND VISIT US SOON!

17.01.2022 Sharing this here as we are getting many questions about what to do regarding travel from Overseas as well as Australian guests. Best advice is please DONT CANCEL your trip! Postpone if really really you have to, but dont cancel. So, luckily the fire doesnt seem to have got us here in Jervis Bay and Huskisson, Culburra, Currarong etc, but now the banks might. I am speaking for all of us in the variously hit (or not hit) tourist dependent areas of Australia. Please share this post too if you can. Lots of mental health, physical help will be needed but the best thing you can do is come and spend as soon as we get word that you are officially allowed to come here.

12.01.2022 We had a tough day on Saturday - preparing the old house for an expected ember attack as we were on the fringe of a potential worst-case scenario map. We asked guests to leave so roads and resources would be available for emergency services and locals. Most of our neighbours stayed - some relaxed; some preparing like us; some leaving. People were evacuating TO Huskisson so that made us feel a bit better. The day was very hot and windy, our community was on high alert, listeni...ng to the radio for info and hearing the terror coming up the coast. At about 7pm the expected 90km southerly wind hit in swirling gales filled with debris, smoke and dust. It hit the pyrocumulous, rainless thunderstorm overhead. We were in full gear ready to put out embers with buckets and hoses. I wont pretend that I wasnt frightened, but we live inches from the sea and built areas of Huskisson, so we knew we could escape if things got hairy. The southerly had come early so had no fire in it. The falling leaves were black not white or glowing red, so after half an hour we could stop running around checking. It was still dusk, we had power and communications. So incredibly lucky. We checked in with friends and neighbours. We got advice from the experienced ones to keep checking every hour, so we slept in our clothes and listened to ABC radio for updates and frightening stories coming from further south and west - thinking of friends we knew were still defending their homes. All through we kept in close contact with everyone near and far in social media checking in, sharing info and support. A few friends were not responding so we all shared and tagged, until they were found - safe with a neighbour or friend. Many were on their own with partners out fighting the fires as RFS volunteers. We were blessed to escape in Huskisson and Jervis Bay and all the coastal villages to the north and while we are not quite all clear officially, most of the shops, restaurants and hotels are open again for business - the cinema never shut and the owners slept there. Weve had lots of cancellations and postponements but we know guests will return soon. Thanks for all your concerns and well wishes. See more

We are currently running ONLY THE VERANDAH ROOM* - our best and most popular four-poster queen room. (*this may change depending on the ‘rona). Direct access & contactless check-in. Super clean and 24 hours between guests. Weekends only at the moment: 2 nights minimum or 3 nights gets you a 10% discount and a midday checkout.... ROOM ONLY now so sorry, NO BREAKFAST. There several lovely cafes 5 minutes’ walk away. The room has a small fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee pod machine with tea & coffee, milk etc provided. Also, no guest access to the sitting-room or common areas of the main house, sorry. Guests have the private Verandah area outside the room. Chairs and a desk in the room. 08.01.2022 Its raining insanely hard at the moment - which is glorious. The huge burned-out fire area to our west has been completely extinguished by the rain and finally removed from the fires near me map. Its still tough days for us as new bookings are way down (almost non-existent), but that means we managed a day or two at a deserted Murrays and Green Patch beaches ourselves, before the east coast low hit. We count ourselves so lucky that beautiful Jervis Bay area was spared the wrath of the recent bushfires, and we are looking forward to a few days of normal weather and the return of guests soon.

05.01.2022 Those of you wondering we are all fine in Huskisson so far. The roads are closed and communications /power are about to go down, but we are safe and the town is full of people. The B&B is prepared as much as possible and we are ready to leave if we have to. No guests in tonight. Weather was very scary for a few hours today - this photo was taken at 3pm, but its calm now. A few guests have postponed and cancelled for Jan, so as soon as this is all over we look forward to seeing all of you again. There have been a few silver linings to not having any guests: we got to eat all the delicious breakfast things like fresh fruit and yoghurt, biscuits and croissants that wed stocked up on, also we got to sit on our guests verandah for dinner a few times. The birds are all flocking to the garden where we keep water and seed out for them, and the house got a big wash the night we were expecting a possible ember attack.... We will be running some specials to gear things up a bit and fill in the gaps made by all the international guests who have cancelled their entire trips to Australia! Come back!
