25.01.2022 Arrived in Monterosso al Mare. It’s flatter than the other villages in Cinque Terre but still as beautiful . . . . Got into our 13 century Hotel, guess what? A mountain of the steepest stairs ever!!

23.01.2022 Vernazza is the last village for us to visit and as usual . . yawn . . it’s lovely! One of the 5, centuries-old villages that make up the Cinque Terre. Colorfu...l houses surround its small marina. The Santa Margherita di Antiochia Church is different in that there are no picturesque frescoes, no age old art on the walls, and a bare timber ceiling. It’s bare, purposeful, austere in decoration and yet still a comforting place to be in. Clinging to the rocks above the village, Doria Castle is a medieval defensive structure with a cylindrical tower. . . unfortunately closed for some obscure reason. So viewers, that is the end of Cinque Terre for us. Tomorrow we move into Genoa for an overnight before heading back to London for a week, then home.

23.01.2022 Big walk today from our apartment to the top of that mountain. Forgive me but I needed to give my feet some love. And nothing says love like my Christmas slippers!

22.01.2022 Brisbane Hockey League Div 1 First knockout Semi-final saw a well prepared Easts Tigers side beat an impressive Saint Andrews Team 2-1. Easts will play in the Grand Final next week against Labrador.

17.01.2022 Our last day in Rome. We have spent 4 days here and I can honestly say we are happy that we covered everything we wanted. But honestly, in this City, every tur...n unfolds something new/different/interesting. So today the only thing left for us to tick off the list was Trevi Fountain. The last time we saw it, it was covered in scaffolding so what real delight it was to see it in its full glory. Yep, Trev certain knows how to put together a water feature! After Trevs’ Fountain it was a casual wonder around with no real purpose. Tonight is going to be a massive party in Rome to see in the New Year. Circus Maximus is to be the epicentre of festivities with an all night concert. Every icon has its own military guard as of 10 o’clock this morning. All soldiers, all armed to the teeth. We will stay comfortably away from to party. Tomorrow is move day to Florence . . . Can’t wait!

15.01.2022 Brisbane Hockey League Div 1 Second Semi-final A red hot Labrador side kept the pressure on the Commercial Cobras from the get-go and ran out winners 4-2. Labrador will meet Easts in next week's Gran Final.

And the co...bblestone roads are taking their toll on my old hockey knees. 13.01.2022 Last night’s practice for the GB Women’s Hockey Team against the Queensland squad. GB’s hard running, first to the ball, mentality was really impressive.

07.01.2022 Bye Rome!! It’s been an absolute gas.

06.01.2022 GB Men’s Hockey Team played a Qld Team this afternoon. First half was a bit of an arm-wrestle but it became a fairly unimpressive hit out (in my opinion) in the end with the GB side accounting for the Qld guys fairly comprehensively.

06.01.2022 Today we jumped on the local train to visit a couple of other villages. This is Cornigula.... population 150. Unlike other Cinque Terra villages, its not adjace...nt to the sea. This one sits on top of a big-arse hill which means . . . . yep, stairs for days . . 33 flights or 382 stairs up to get to it, BUT it’s worth the effort (and Advil). This little village dates back to the Roman Age and I don’t know why it exists. There are documents saying there was a Castle but no ruins have been found. As with every Italian village, there are a few Churches and one in particular - church of Saint Pietro (Peter to his mates) is a beauty. See more

05.01.2022 And Florence is done! Lovely day today with fewer people about (still busy) with the hightlight being Michelangelo’s David of course. It just bewilders me how a...nyone could create such a beautiful sculpture. There was another admirer in the crowd that I spotted . . . you’ll see who it is in the photos. Lastly had a bit of time before dinner to shoot some night long exposures of the bridges. Tomorrow we train up to Cinque Terre.

03.01.2022 Arrived at Riomaggiore just in time for sunset. Ummm ...... don’t hate us but this the view from our front door over ‘our’ balcony ...... sorry, not sorry.

03.01.2022 Today in Riomaggiore was exactly the same a yesterday . . . Beautiful! Went on a big walk up a mountain and the views were tremendous. Tomorrow we will explore Manarola.
