20.01.2022 Wednesday words....What I like most about vintage is , that to me, every piece has a story to tell, ones, we either make up in our minds,or for real! Inspired by Fallon Drewett, Friday Frocks and Heard Words - Body and Emma Barrett I decided to write down a story every Wednesday told by a vintage piece, now I`m definitly not a writer, but I`m just giving it a go! I would love for all of you to get involved! I`ve just ordered some "story cards" , that I will attach to the piec...es I sell in the store and I need stories told by dresses, tops etc.. so are you good with words , feel free to help me out! Here our first Wednesday words... * * "Here I am, a "powerdress" from the 80`s. The girl who used to wear me ,Felicia, loved going to the nightclubs around Europe, where she danced the night away, mostly to Wham and Madonna, but also to some Joy Division and the Cure,which was my favorite band by the way! People used to smoke and that would tickle my senses, but Felicia was a good girl, she never tried once! How discusting I would smell though, especially the next day! Felicia would give me a bath and we would be fresh and ready for our next adventure! Like I said she was a good girl, unlike her sister Diane. Diane use to steal me out of Felicia`s cupboard, when she wasn`t around, put me on while I didn`t really fit her and spilled some sticky drinks on me , I believe they were called Blue Curacao, THE drink of the 80`s apparently.When Diane came home from her dancing nights,she would shove me straight back into the cupboard, just like that, like nothing had happened, smelly and dirty! She thought Felicia wouldn`t notice...but she did! The 90`s came around and after a big clean out I ended up in this big warehouse for secondhand clothes, where I was just laying low for a while...for years actually, a little unloved I felt! Till one day I got picked up by a vintage seller , I ended up at a flea market in Amsterdam. It was me and piles and piles of other pre-loved clothes, people would dig through , but no-one really wanted me ! Until this one girl came around ,she found me right at the bottom of this pile ! She let out a squeal of excitment , I think it`s my golden sleeves that made her squeal..."thank you, thank you, thank you" I could hear her say! 09.01.2022 Wednesday words....not my words , but from the book " The secret life of dresses" by Erin McKean. THE inspiration for me behind Wednesday words, if dresses could talk... * * "Some dresses are only ever worn by one person, and so that`s the kind of person they like. It makes sense. If you only ever get one choice, you`re happier if you make yourself believe that you would chosen that one person anyway, even given all the people in the world to choose from. But I`ve been worn b...y lots of people: three sisters, two friends of sisters, and one friend of a friend of a sister, plus once by someone whose name I never knew, but my point is I know a bit more about what I like and what I don`t like. I like someone who laughs, but not all the time, and not too loud. I like it when someone laughs at the world, and not at someone in particular-when some particularly absurd thing happens, not just someone falling down. And a person should stop every once in a while, for no reason, just stop and be still for a moment. Moments of stillness are underrated, I think. They don`t have to be silent moments, just still ones. A change to let yourself imagine you can feel the earth spinning . (I didn`t make that up;Edna, the oldest sister, did. She wore me first, so perhaps I am a little biased towards people like Edna. Although she did snore.) Singing when no one else is around is always good. I especially like belters. Good, loud singing is probably better medicine than half the stuff they sell in pill bottles, and it`s cheaper ,too. I also think people should never turn down an opportunity to hold a baby. There`s somenthing about the feel of a new baby in your arms that just fixes you. I don`t like meanness, especially of the mealy mouthed "Well, I wouldn`t say this, but I hear..." variety. And I don`t like people who eat powdered dougnuts. I don`t care how careful you are, they`re just plain messy. I can`t believe they taste good enough to justify getting that sugar all over everything, especially ME! But when you come right down to it, I`m just like everyone else, in that I like someone who likes me. The someone whose name I never knew, the one who wore me once? Said I was the prettiest dress she ever wore. The minute she said that I wanted her to keep me forever.I wish she had ..
