13.01.2022 6 STEPS TO HAVING A CONVERSATION Step 5 to having a conversation about mental health is... Know where to recommend help If your friend says something that worries you, it’s important to let them know that help is available. ... Always remember, though, that making a recommendation does not require you to fix or solve anything. By recommending help: you are not responsible for making sure that they get better you are not required to make personal sacrifices you are letting them know that help is available you are supporting them to make a change in their life Recommendations should connect a person with a support that can help them. This could be: A medical centre A youth mental health service A mental health organisation A school counsellor, welfare officer or psychologist You may need to recommend a few different places to them before they decide on which place is the best one for them. Lifeline Tasmania and Kids Helpline Official are really good go-to support services if you or anyone you know needs help. Tip: Having information printed off or on your phone ready to access will help a lot www.huonvalley.tas.gov.au//6-steps-to-having-a-conversation #checkin #mentalhealthweek2020

10.01.2022 Celebrate Halloween at home this year Public Health is discouraging trick-or-treating this Halloween. This is because it’s risky to have unnecessary close contact with many unfamiliar people whose current health you don't know. Instead of knocking on doors, it’s better to hold your activities at home with a small number of healthy friends and family. If you are going to take part in trick-or-treating, make sure to follow these guidelines: Treats should be individually ...wrapped go for lollies or mini-chocolate bars. All children need to be supervised by an adult. Take care when walking around the streets look both ways before crossing. Use hand sanitiser before eating any treats. Wait for other families to leave a house before you approach. If you or anyone in your house is feeling unwell, stay at home and do not take part. Have a safe and spooky time this weekend! See more
