14.01.2022 The Hume Whittlesea LLEN is honoured to be able to continue to recognise and award students excelling in vocational education in our local schools. The HWLLEN Vocational Education Awards are proudly supported by Hume City Council, the City of Whittlesea, the Hume & Whittlesea Youth Commitments - to celebrate student achievements in VCAL, VET and SBAT. These Awards aim to promote the importance and relevance of vocational education and training pathways and celebrate the stud...ents’ engagement and achievements within their chosen fields. The awards are based on the student’s results, attitudes and achievements, and are nominated by their schools and are endorsed through recommendations from employers, teachers and work placement coordinators. Research shows us that by understanding the skills and capabilities that will be most portable and in demand in the new economy, young people can work to equip themselves for the future of work more effectively. We know, too, that gaining experience in the workplace is the best preparation for young people as they transition from school. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic there will not be a formal ceremony as in previous years. This year, we have delivered the certificates and vouchers to the schools to be distributed to the award recipients on our behalf. We understand this year has been particularly challenging for all students, and particularly those participating in applied learning studies. We warmly congratulate all recipients, and we hope the skills acquired through their studies in VET, VCAL and SBATs enables and empowers them to embark on exciting new endeavours.

14.01.2022 "In June, a survey and report conducted by the Victorian Student Representative Council (VicSRC) found that students wanted more regular check-ins from teachers to support their wellbeing. The report, titled: ‘Learning and remote learning’, also revealed that students were also eager to give regular feedback to teachers about their learning and have the opportunity to give input on the direction of future classes. These themes of supporting positive mental health and wellbein...g at school and increasing student engagement also featured prominently at the 2020 VicSRC Congress. To answer this call, the VicSRC teamed up with ed-tech company Verso Learning to create a free student check-in tool that enables teachers to regularly check-in with students either in class or when working remotely." https://www.theeducatoronline.com//how-to-check-in-/274220

08.01.2022 This is great news. Thanks to everyone who campaigned for this.

07.01.2022 Helena wants a secure future just like every other Year 12 student. The chance to study, to find a job, and to start a life of her own. But like thousands of ot...her young Victorians, that dream seems more and more out of reach. This pandemic has changed so much already, all around the world and for many young people, it's meant spending an important time of their lives in limbo. "We've been away from friends, studying from home wasn't always easy and staying motivated has been difficult for a lot of people too. I was working as a singer at events and parties and stuff while I did VCE, but that dried up." Helena wants to become a paramedic when she finishes school, but she says she doesn't know how the pandemic might impact her future and nor do her classmates. "I think a lot of my friends are worried about how their plans might change." But it's young Victorians like Helena who'll help us fully recover from this pandemic and now more than ever we need them to gain the skills to create jobs and build big. That's why we've announced Victoria's first ever Youth Strategy. We're talking directly to young people all around the state from Bendigo to Bundoora. And hearing from community workers, youth organisations, support services and more. It's the first time the Government has ever developed a youth strategy for young people, by young people. And it'll play a big role in helping our state recover and grow when this pandemic is over. Because if we're going to come out of this stronger we need to do things differently. And if we're going to change the future, we first have to listen to Victoria's future.

06.01.2022 It was great to get together today with our LLEN colleagues. We were talking all things young people, education & training pathways. So much great work happening across the State.
