25.01.2022 Exciting day! First patients receiving the COVID-19 vaccine at Kalamunda. Newburn Rd and Edney starting in the coming weeks For more details http://www.stirkmedicalgroup.com/unca/covid-vaccine-update/

25.01.2022 With both the Pfizer and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines being provisionally approved in Australia this month, the first doses will soon be administered across the country. Understandably there is a lot of uncertainty, particularly due to a lot of misinformation and strong opinions. Healthdirect Australia have put together an excellent article to answer lots of queries or concerns you may have regarding the vaccine, and we think it is a great place to start. Priority population... groups will potentially start to receive the Pfizer vaccine in the coming weeks. This will be offered to those eligible under Phase 1a of the rollout, and includes quarantine and border workers, front line health care workers, as well as aged care and disability staff and residents. The rollout is expected to then be expanded to other priority groups by the end of next month, which will include people aged over 70 years, those with an underlying medical condition, other health care workers, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people > 55 years old. We will try to keep you posted and informed as the rollout happens here in Perth. In the meantime, click on the link below and the WA Health Department website for updates (https://ww2.health.wa.gov.au/) https://www.healthdirect.gov.au//about-the-covid-19-vaccin

24.01.2022 Wishing all of you a lovely, safe and healthy Christmas with your friends and family

24.01.2022 Did you know that if you are aged between 70 and 79 you can receive the shingles (herpes zoster) vaccine for FREE under the National Immunisation Program schedule? Shingles is a virus caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus and can cause severe nerve pain than can last for months. We encourage you to chat to your GP about this, if aged between 70 and 79, and to share this with your loved ones to see if they are protected. 22.01.2022 Please contact us if you require home delivery of any prescription or other health essentials Delivery is free to all of you in the local area, and we offer contact-free payments. We understand the need for those most vulnerable in our community to stay at home and if we can help with this please don't hesitate to ask. If you do come to the Pharmacy but would prefer to stay in your car, please call us and we can come out to you to assist you in whatever way we can! Unfort...unately we currently do NOT have any masks available in stock. We will hopefully have more shortly, and will let you know when they do arrive back in store. We DO have plenty of stock of hand sanisiter available, including our own compounded WHO formula option. - Steve and the HWP team

21.01.2022 Do you feel like you are in the pharmacy for prescription medicines all the time? There is a chance that you may qualify for the PBS Safety Net! The PBS Safety Net runs on a calendar year and helps to protect Australian families from high medication costs. If you are on lots of PBS medicines you could qualify. Who qualifies?... Any Australian resident with a Medicare or DVA card qualifies, and the tally resets on January 1st each year. Individuals, their spouses, dependent children under 16 and dependant students under 25 make up a family for Safety Net purposes. What are the PBS prices for 2021? In 2021 concession scripts will stay at $6.60, and general patients will pay up to a maximum of $41.30 per script. What are the limits? For concession card holders, the family limit in 2021 is the same as last year - $316.80 (48 prescriptions). For ‘general’ patients, the family limit has increased slightly to $1497.20. The limits are reviewed each year. Only PBS medicines count, and if you need to get a repeat supply of some medicines early (eg. less than 20 day intervals), none of the amount charged will count towards your Safety Net tally for the year. How do I know if I have reached the limit? If you go to one pharmacy they will automatically keep track of it for you. Just make sure we know all the members of your family (sometimes if surnames are different it isn’t immediately obvious!). If you go to multiple pharmacies you can keep a record yourself using stickers on a paper-based Prescription Record Form (PRF). What if I haven’t been keeping track? Ask one of our Pharmacists for help. We will need to know the members of your family, and which pharmacies you have visited. With your permission, we will source the records and find out if you have reached the Safety Net limit! What happens when I reach the limit? If you are a concession patient, once you reach the limit most scripts become free for the rest of the calendar year. If you are a general patient, most scripts go down to $6.60 in 2021. If you then need an early supply of your PBS medication it may be supplied, but at the non-Safety Net rate. There are some extra charges on some original brand products. #hwpharmacy #healthdestination #PBS #safetynet

21.01.2022 "Memory Cafes" are a great place for those who live with dementia to visit. Simply, the concept is to provide an opportunity for people with dementia to meet and socialise over a cup of tea or coffee in a place where they feel safe from stigma, and where they can share with those on a similar journey. It can also be a place for carers to access support from others going through similar experiences. Gracie's CAFE is our local participating cafe in Forrestfield, and they are hosting a morning tea at 10am on the first Wednesday of every month, next on Septembr 2nd. Call to book ahead or pop in on the day if you’re interested!

20.01.2022 Do you have a CPAP machine and struggle to sleep comfortably with your current mask? We have some brand new technology available in store that can help you find the perfect mask for your face, using our new 3D camera. Read our blog article below (2 minute read) to learn more about this service and to see if it might help you or your loved one get a perfect mask fit! https://www.highwycombepharmacy.com.au/blog/3D-mask-selector

15.01.2022 Electronic prescriptions (e-scripts) are coming and we are ready to go! This will change the way you manage medication orders from your doctor. We think it will be great (once we all get used to it!), as there will be no more lost scripts, bundles of paper, or confusing ‘double-ups’. You will still have the choice of having your e-scripts filled at your favourite Pharmacy as well, and the best way to manage this will be through the MedAdvisor app Of course, the option o...f traditional paper scripts (as they currently are) will still exist if you’re not so tech-savvy. However, some medical practices have begun using e-scripts already, so ask your GP next time if this is something they can offer for you. We will aim to keep you informed as these changes continue to be rolled out in the coming weeks. For now, to get started and be prepared, download MedAdvisor and sign up today to get e-script ready https://www.medadvisor.com.au/Home/GettingStarted #hwpharmacy #digitalhealth #Medadvisor #highwycombe #maidavale

15.01.2022 We can all be F.A.S.T. Heroes! National Stroke Week begins today, and the Stroke Foundation is urging Australians from all walks of life to become the next generation of F.A.S.T. Heroes. A F.A.S.T. hero is anyone who can help save a life simply by knowing how to recognise the F.A.S.T. (Face. Arms. Speech and Time) signs of stroke. A simple conversation with your friends and loved ones about this can make a difference to reacting quickly when needed! #strokeweek2020

09.01.2022 #Goodbye2020 and happy new year everyone! I think most of us will be glad to see the back of what has been a very ‘complicated’ year. We really treasure all of your kindness and understanding throughout 2020. We may have appeared strict at times, but we needed to be to follow guidelines and to keep ourselves safe (and our families!) at the same time. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we changed the way we operated to supply medications and deliver the services ...we offer. Thank you for your encouragement and appreciation to help keep us smiling when we were stressed Thank you to our wonderful staff for your hard work and dedication to serving our High Wycombe community. 04.01.2022 Did you know that using your 'blue reliever inhaler' 3 or more times a week for your asthma might mean you are relying on it too much? This could be a sign that your asthma is poorly controlled, putting you at increased risk of an asthma attack! If this is relevant to you, click on the link below and take this short test to see if you are one of the many people who might love your little blue inhaler a little bit too much https://www.rateyourreliance.com #hwpharmacy #highwycombe #asthma #AsthmaAwareness

02.01.2022 We feel it's time we all talked more openly about the use of opioid pain killer medications in the community and how we can help those who may need treatment in case of overdose. Over the next 6 months we are participating in a 'Take Home Pilot Program' offering FREE naloxone nasal spray doses, to have at home for emergency situations. The idea is that this can be part of your home 'first aid kit', and be available for easy access when needed. Just like an EpiPen is needed t...o be available for those who have a history of anaphylaxis, this should be the same, to help treat those who are at risk of, or who may witness, an opioid overdose. There are many situations where this can occur, including forgetting to remove a patch before applying the next one, taking additional doses, or mixing pain medicines with alcohol and other drugs. A simple single pump of a nasal spray can help save the life of someone you love! Come in and speak to one of our Pharmacists if you want more information on this product and any advice about how to manage these situations! #hwpharmacy #healthdestination #highwycombe #NaloxoneSavesLives

01.01.2022 On a day like today, we hope you enjoy the time with those you treasure the most. Happy Easter everyone
