25.01.2022 As of lunch time today Hybrid has temporarily closed as per the government guidelines in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. It makes the future look a little concerning for many small businesses, but short term pain for long term societal gain. We are looking at online options and other ways we can do our part to help you stay active and healthy throughout the uncertain times ahead.... We look forward to working with you again soon Canberra.

25.01.2022 At Hybrid we have always taken great pride in our commitment to our education first approach to health and wellbeing. Over the weekend our dietician Erica of @sportrition_ presented to our Baseball program athletes ranging in age 13-19 and their parents debunking nutrition myths around sports nutritions and teaching our young athletes the basics of healthy eating and it’s impact on elite level sports performance. Could your sporting team do with a strength and conditioning pr...ogram that looks at every aspect of your performance from assessments, training, mobility and nutrition education as well? Regardless of the program, our goal is to set the industry standard and our baseball program is well on its way.

23.01.2022 If ever there was a time to simplify your food choices and choose nutrients over convenience. This was it. Better food choices, make for better health and better ability to fight off any cold or flu- not just the one that shan’t be named.... Fresh. Nutritious. Healthy choices.

22.01.2022 What seems like a long time ago, we made the pledge to become more conscious of our impact on the environment, then the world went a little mad. We are back though and working on meeting our targets. First of all, as a gym, glutes, bums and butts come up in conversation around training goals quite a lot. You’re working on your bum here, and now wiping it here is helping others do the same.... Who gives a crap? We do! #whogivesacraptoiletpaper

22.01.2022 Change is a coming at Hybrid Performance. As a small, community based, health focussed business it makes sense to not only value the health of our people, but the environment in which our community exists. Whether you believe in climate change or not, no harm can come from more conscious decision making, care and consideration to the planet we call home.... We may be a small business, but the strength of small business comes in its ability to inspire the greater community to make a joint effort, with a net result far greater than any individual can make on their own. Change can’t come all at once, but day to day progress (sound familiar?) will make a big difference in the future. #HybridPerformance

22.01.2022 Aerobic work. Why? Well- why not? It’s hard work, sure. But aerobic training goes far beyond just getting lean. Cardiovascular health (your heart, your blood, oxygen transport capabilities and further down the line energy production) are all going to benefit from aerobic training. What’s the best option to do? As always, the one you enjoy. Personally- I like variety. I love cycling, rowing, running, swimming, airdynes- but if you love to row, then you row.... Start off with steady state, build an aerobic base. Then progress in intensity and changing variables to improve all energy systems. Aerobic health is your base. Build it first. Build it wide. Then build it high. #HybridPerformance

21.01.2022 It's that time of year- motivation is at an all time high. How do we convert early motivation into long term habits? Health and wellbeing is not a short term fix, twelve weeks of good work isn't enough to last a lifetime. It is the daily actions, our habits, our rituals that set a lifelong result, but where do we start?

19.01.2022 We are on the job getting some singlets/crops/tee’s for the warmer weather. Singlets will be unisex, as will the t shirts. Crops- well, up to you I guess We have a couple more colours on the way- let us know if you’re keen.... #HybridPerformance

19.01.2022 Technically today is the day. Today Hybrid and many other fitness facilities in the ACT can reopen the doors. In what has been a trying time for many, the shining light, as often is the case, was good people doing great things. It is through the support of our community that we are able to reopen the doors and ready for Hybrid 2.0 so to speak.... Of course things will be a little different as we adjust and adhere to the new rules in place for all of our safety- but we are back. To those that borrowed equipment, booked PT sessions, sent a message to check in, to our team who contributed through online classes, nutrition talks and more- I say Thankyou. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you all again very, very soon. On behalf of all of us at Hybrid- it’s good to be back Clint

19.01.2022 Soaking up some of that Golden Hour sun #goldenhour

18.01.2022 I need to find motivation. It doesn’t quite work that way, motivation is enough to get started, but motivation alone won’t get you up in the early mornings, motivation won’t keep you on top of food prep nor will it get you in bed early enough for a good sleep. Motivation is the little buzz that gets you to the markets or the gym to join. Rituals, habits or whatever you prefer to call them is what will get results. The things done daily not because you’re motivated, but beca...use that is what you do. You don’t eat a healthy meal because you’re motivated, or because of a diet- it’s because eating healthy is what you do. It’s such an engrained behaviour that it is just normal.

18.01.2022 Time to rip into a new week. Happy Monday

18.01.2022 5.30am training sessions are much more enjoyable when you can bring your pup to the gym. Gigi’s first visit to Hybrid #hybriddoggos

17.01.2022 Snacking. Essential strategy to survive the day? Or hand grenade waiting to go off? Mindless v mindful. Mindless snacking is reaching into a jar of biscuits and chomping away to pass the time. A rapid way to fire an extra thousand calories before you even realise.... Mindful snacking is opting for nutrient rich options to keep not only body, but brain firing throughout the day. Tying you over between meals. There is a difference not only in the quality of snack in each, but the planning as well. Are your snacks working for you and your results? Or against you? #HybridPerformance

16.01.2022 Time to introduce you to the next member of team Hybrid. Brigitte has been running our Saturday morning yoga classes since earlier this year both in gym and during the shut down online. At Hybrid we are big believers in balance, we push our members and clients hard in our strength and conditioning sessions and the addition of Brigitte’s yoga class at the end of the week is the perfect way to unwind and stretch out with one of the nicest humans on the planet.... Our Saturday yoga class is on at 9am and is open to our members, their friends and anybody who wants to have a look at the gym or just relax and unwind after a big week. If you’re coming in for your first session, be sure to introduce yourself to Brigitte and she will make sure you walk out feeling better than you did when you walked in.

16.01.2022 New friends making admin days 1000x better

15.01.2022 2020 just keeps throwing curveballs at us. With regards to COVID-19 (yes, we are talking about it too) we have compiled a list of things that will help you immensely with regards to staying healthy (see also, sane) throughout the virus. Good health in addition to hygiene practices seems to be your best defence.... Have anything to add to the list? Let us know in the comments. Stay cautious, stay sensible and stay safe.

15.01.2022 Once I made a batch of protein balls. The idea being I would have a healthy snack to spread across the week. That one day, I ate an entire batch of protein balls. Not a worry, it’s healthy right?... Sure, the ingredients are healthy- coconut oil, honey, almond meal, protein powder, nuts and so on. They are also very, very calorie dense. High in fat (9cal/g) foods can easily add hundreds of calories to your day which isn’t the end of the world, but if you’re trying to maintain a small calorie deficit to drop body fat then this will likely tip you back into surplus and slow/stop progress. The message here is this, your treats should be managed. Treat doesn’t equal meal. If a protein ball stops you from a block of chocolate then go for it, but if you take the same approach to protein balls as you would a block of chocolate (like I do ) and eat the entire lot then either work on control or look further into current nutrition asking the question what is missing that increases likely hood of consuming bulk calories.

15.01.2022 If you’re able to find a way to improve these four, not all at once. One at a time, bit by bit. If you can get to a place where you do what you do, not because it’s healthy but because it’s exactly what you do. Everything becomes much, much, much easier. Done daily. Habits become rituals. Results become real.

14.01.2022 Saturday just gone, a collection of good people, wanting to do good things and help those needing it most. For those of you that braved 40+ degree heat, who donated time, meat, skills, banter, supplements, laughs, community and over a thousand dollars. For those concerned with the troubling times we face as a community, but choose to unite and collectively make a difference.... It is this spirit and desire to give, the desire to help that will see us through. On behalf of all of us, Jake from @ultrafs_gym , Shannon from @missfitstrengthandconditioning , Morgan from @tribe_11 Alan from @romero_athletics and Mimi from Fuerza a Thankyou goes out to you all.

14.01.2022 At Hybrid we are fast approaching closing up for the end of the year. The big question? What do we do on our break?. Answer- rest. A good recovery week isn’t sat on the couch, hand either in a bag of Doritos or travelling with a handful to the mouth in grey sweats.... A good recovery week is dialling the intensity right back, maybe it’s a hike over the break, a bike ride, playing a bit of sport- look for low intensity, look for enjoyable and break away from the structured nature of exercise. The Christmas break is about unwinding, family and good times. By no means should you undo a years hard work in the space of a few days- but you can have your Christmas fun and come out the other side ready to rock and roll for a new year. The recovery period is a refresh, it doesn’t have to be sloth mode.

12.01.2022 Food goal for 2020- ramping up the delicious in healthy eating. Increasing variety, trying more new foods but keeping it fresh, keeping it seasonal and looking around for inspiration such as this pic.

12.01.2022 10 minutes from empty plate to delicious breakfast. One of the common things we hear at Hybrid is I don’t have time for breakfast. I’ve been guilty of this myself but I would argue time isn’t made for breakfast, or which ever meal is more hassle than health for you. Healthy food can be made fast. Healthy food can be made tasty. But it won’t make itself.... Perhaps 10 minutes earlier to bed, 10 minutes earlier out of it and you’ve got 10 minutes to prepare with a few extra to consume and believe me, when breakfast tastes like this- it’s time that’s easy to find. #TheHybridChef

10.01.2022 Often when you think of carbonated drinks you think high sugar soft drink. Kombucha however or other fermented drinks can offer a naturally sweet (ginger/lime for example) alternative and come with a hit of pre/probiotics that are good for the body. On a hot summers day it’s a pretty good alternative and keeps you on track.

10.01.2022 Happy new year folks. If you’re anything like me, over the Christmas break you’ve eaten enough carbs that if they were listed on the stock exchange the share value would have gone through the roof. Now back and working towards a normal routine- do we swing completely in the opposite direction and demonise carbohydrates? Or exercise some common sense and take a disciplined approach?... How many carbs do you need? Enough, and not many more. How many is enough? Well that depends. Are you sat at a desk all day or working an incredibly active job? The more active worker will require more, the more active worker who doubles as an endurance athlete requires more again. Carbs won’t kill you, but consuming carbs like they are going out of fashion might slow your progress #HybridPerformance

10.01.2022 Healthy food can also be NomNomNomNom food #smashedavo #nohousesathybrid

08.01.2022 Regardless of the industry, small business success is often measured in money made. What about difference made? Small business has the ability to stand up and lead from the front- our community have spoken and this is our plan moving forward.

07.01.2022 The varying levels of reawakening after savasana to finish our Saturday morning yoga class. On every Saturday from 9am with @brigittevasils and you’re more than welcome to bring a friend too. #namasterelaxed

07.01.2022 Keep it simple- but don’t forget simple doesn’t mean it can’t be delicious. Fastest way to change to good food habits. Is learn to make healthy food that’s enjoyable. Being healthy isn’t limited solely to the realm of kale.

06.01.2022 What’s the ideal squat depth? Is it allllllllll the way down? To parallel? Somewhere in between? Answer- it depends. It depends on lots of things. Some people don’t have the mobility to go low, some don’t have the stability to go low. Opposite ends of the problem paradigm but both require equal attention.... While you work on improving your range, or how you manage it- work to a depth that you maintain form, muscle activation and lower if not remove any risk of injury. Outside of that improve the hip movement, ankle range, shoulder mobility (it’s a thing with squats too), technique in general and build to the ideal range of deep. If you can’t manage it, that’s cool. Practice, practice. Perfect practice will lead to perfect performance. One persons perfect is another’s progress.

06.01.2022 A good breakfast is always better than no breakfast and nothing kills breakfast plans like running out of time. This lil bad boy took a whole of 4 minutes to make. While bread toasted everything else was mashed and ready to stack. End result? Delicious

04.01.2022 With the thick smoke Canberra is dealing with at the moment, all classes and personal training sessions at Hybrid on Monday January 6 have been cancelled. End of the day as a health business, it was an easy decision to ensure the wellbeing of our members.

04.01.2022 We are excited to be about a month away from kicking off our partnership with Baseball Canberra, working with their elite athlete development program. Working with 13-19 year olds in this case we have bought in our amazing dietician Erica from @sportrition_ to educate the young athletes on how to eat for health and performance across a series of seminars. Lincoln bringing his years of experience working with athletes to ensure the team is excelling in training and their game day performance. Brigitte bringing her yoga experience to ensure we keep our baseball athletes mobile. As a team we are stoked to be involved with Baseball Canberra and contributing to putting the ACT well and truly on the map for baseball.

02.01.2022 Have you met our team? Big Lincoln Shrubb has been calling Hybrid home for his PT coaching business @nexor_sp and recently has become more involved in Hybrid’s coaching. A fantastic coach who is heavily invested in strength and conditioning and rehabilitation for athletes, Lincoln has a degree in Exercise Science and has traveled throughout Australia and into the USA for internships and continued learning working with athletes of all ages in a variety of sports from amateur t...hrough to professional level. If you’re coming back to sport from injury or looking to take your performance to the next level Lincoln is your guy and is available for one on one personal training sessions.

02.01.2022 What’s that skip? I’ve always loved kangaroo. I understand it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Lean meats, high protein, high iron and plenty of nutrients. Not necessarily for health reasons, rather for my own enjoyment around food, I like to vary my protein sources for a variety of nutrients but keeping variety across meals. ... Your nutrition is your greatest tool for fat loss, it’s important to blend best for you and best to stick to so you’re food is working just as hard for you as you are in the gym.

02.01.2022 Keep. It. Simple. That goes for programming, that goes for nutrition, that goes for recovery. There is no need to complicate until the simple no longer works. This is progression. A movement such as the squat, in its most simple form can increase your strength through adding a little weight each workout to the bar. Building muscle maybe your squat workout is done more often. For fat loss more total reps.... Keep it simple and save the magic reps for when they are needed. The basics are fundamentals and it is for a great reason

01.01.2022 As a young boy, like many my age this man was as close to a hero as I could imagine. Like many across the world, I wanted to be like Mike. I wanted to be jump man. To dunk was a life goal. I wanted to be a Chicago bull. Fast forward twenty something years, I’m older, I hope wiser too. I see the good sides to MJ, but I’m aware of the bad.... So why have I got a childhood hero on a gym page? As a child I respected his success. As an adult I respect the work that made him what he became. He didn’t end up the best by chance. There is a lifetime of dedication to craft. An uncompromising competitive nature to be the best. Ego? Sure- it comes with the territory. My favourite MJ stories aren’t the flu game or the shot. My favourites are the constant work. First to training. Last to leave. Hardest working every session. After a conversation today with a friend about motivation. The big difference separating the greats from the rest isn’t motivation. It’s discipline. It’s not missing days because it’s too hard. It’s doubling down because for MJ, the competition were gunning for him for fifteen years. Every session he missed was a chance for a competitor to make ground. Something that wasn’t an option or a consideration. How does this apply to mere mortals such as you and I? Simple. Stop searching for motivation, especially while we are on lockdown. Instead start to work on discipline. Treat it as a muscle, a muscle can be flexed, what can be flexed can be grown and what can grow can become stronger. We may not soar from the free throw line for slam dunk contest victory. We may not sink game winning shots to secure world championships. But we can draw on that mentality- discipline and a commitment to excellence. Just like Mike, only person who can slow our own progress, is us. Only person capable of accelerating it- that’s on us too.

01.01.2022 It’s Friday. Or Wednesday? No. Definitely Friday. How’s your week been? It’s different, right?... While seemingly Australia is doing well, there is still a ways to go. We miss the gym as much as anyone, most of all we miss our people. Although many of us want the gym seen as essential, exercise by all means is essential. But exercise isn’t confined to the four walls of your gym. We and many of the other wonderful gyms, trainers and health professionals of Canberra are churning out workout ideas from at home, the park or in your backyard. While gyms remain closed, this is an opportunity to mix it up and chip away at some of the more neglected areas like mobility or aerobic health. Look for opportunity to improve as opposed to what’s been lost. We will be ok. All of us will, because we are in it together.

01.01.2022 For the vast majority of us, life got different. Real different in the last couple weeks. Whenever we go through big change, chosen or enforced, we reach to our support network- people, places, the gym anything of a collective nature. What happens though, when we don’t have access to the support networks we have relied on all our lives?... Speaking with people this week and a common thing all of us have noticed, is an increase in alcohol consumption, whether it’s a coping mechanism, whether it’s boredom, or you just really enjoy the glass of red. For most people, consumption has gone up. Although a lot of our usual support networks are gone, although everything is a little uncertain- it remains important, now more than ever that the uncertainty, is channeled into something positive. Be it movement, rest, a renewed focus on health, learning a new skill, pursuing a new hobby. Enjoy your wine. Enjoy the beer. I enjoy either as much as the next person- but this is our temporary new normal. We may have months of this lifestyle, all I’m saying is- pace yourself. There is more track ahead of us than behind. We may need to maintain space physically, it’s more important than ever to maintain a sense of togetherness even if from afar.

01.01.2022 Rolling up the door for another big week Suns out.... #hybridperformance

01.01.2022 The transition moving from face to face classes to online? Seamless.
