25.01.2022 http:// HIGH FIRE RESISTANCE // CLT is remarkably fire resistant. You might be thinking how is this possible? It’s wood! ... CLT resists the impact of a fire through charring. If the face of the panel is exposed to temperatures above 400 degrees it will ignite and begin a steady burn. As the outside panel burns it becomes a black layer of char which forms an insulating layer that protects the core of the timber from high temperatures. The unaffected core of the timber is then still able to function to resist a fire. Interestingly, the fire stairs in our Watermark Shellharbour development are made out of CLT! A CLT panel is made from a minimum of three bonded single-layer panels that are arranged at right angles to each other. This makes them impeccably airtight. In fact, a 2008 study from the Austrian Society for Wood Research found that CLT panels are so airtight that a draft flowing through the panel couldn’t even be recorded at measurable levels. ... The lengths are laid at 90 degrees to each other then glued together using a non-toxic adhesive.
