24.01.2022 Want to explore homebirth as an option in Geraldton? Gain knowledge, be inspired and demystify homebirth at this informal talk. I’m so honoured to be part of this. The choice and option in being able to birth at home is very close to my heart and I will talk about it at the event. I also look forward to listening to the stories of the ‘special guests’ Miya and Katie too! I hope to see you there!

24.01.2022 A reminder that, earlier this year, expert researchers at Oxford Brookes University brought together research on childbirth, birth setting and the use of water ...immersion in labour and shared key points which highlighted the safety and benefits of the use of water for labour and birth, during and beyond the coronavirus pandemic. Their points included that: Water immersion for healthy women is associated with a number of beneficial maternal outcomes with no known adverse risks to the neonate. COVID-19 is not a waterborne virus, therefore, the water environment dilutes respiratory droplet and faecal contamination potential. In the Coronavirus context, water immersion presents a lower risk of contamination risk for midwives compared with bed birth because it promotes the use of social distancing without interrupting normal midwifery care. Burns et al (2020) The authors also noted that: "The birthing pool environment presents a natural barrier between the woman and her midwife. Supporting women in the water reduces droplet, aerosol and faecal contamination, presenting a low-risk transmission activity for the Coronavirus. Water immersion for healthy women is associated with a number of beneficial maternal outcomes with no known adverse risks to the neonate. For primiparous women, birthing in midwifery-led settings (AMU/FMU or home) water immersion reduces transfer rate with the greatest benefit seen at FMU. Water immersion for labour and/or birth should be supported and encouraged as an effective method of analgesia." Burns E, Feeley C, Venderlaan J et al (2020). 24.01.2022 I have had chronic lower back pain since I was 16. It used to come and go over the years but it started to come on very consistently over the past year, sometimes once a month and I would be out for at least a few days to a couple of weeks. For someone my age- what was it going to be like in 30 years time?... It was time to do something about this. I started to feel myself resist the commitment that was ahead but remembered that the emotion behind lower back pain is feeling unsupported. I am pretty good at outsourcing these days but it was time to support myself. Take responsibility and be determined to get better. I booked into Sally the women’s health Physio at Sanford Clinic and worked on my pelvic floor, core and leg strength. (I really urge you to get your pelvic floor and core checked out by a women’s health Physio if you haven’t done so already in pregnancy, early motherhood and years beyond) I then started back with Dee Wilson @elements360wa as featured in the video. I go to her for PT sessions and do a cross between yoga, Pilates and primal moves. I feel myself getting stronger each time including my core, especially since I never used to hold my core properly. I highly recommend her. I also now go to Matt O’Neill for regular chiro care who helps with the tightness and realignment of my spine and the way my brain and spine signal to each other (he works with pregnant women too so highly recommend him) It’s so important to value your physical health, it can be so depressing and debilitating if you don’t. I also value it because my physical body is carrying my soul through this human experience!!!!! It’s what is getting me through my life. Melissa x www.melissaayling.com.au See more

19.01.2022 Today I was feeling very unmotivated. I was starting to feel lazy and beat myself up for not feeling positive or energetic. I then realised it’s not a bad thing to feel like this! Why try to fight it?... I then tapped into the guidance of my inner voice and it led me to @flowcommunity to grab a bacon and avo toasted sandwich. I ate it mindfully at home then went to bed and read a bit of ‘Pussy’ followed by a nap. I was starting to bask in the laziness and enjoy it. Conscious laziness! Aka relaxing! My inner voice then guided me down to the beach to be in nature. I went for a nice walk through the bush and along the shoreline. Followed by a refreshing swim in the ocean at my favourite beach. I started to feel my energy shift to more motivated and positive! Thanks inner voice. Gratitude Melissa x www.melissaayling.com.au See more

17.01.2022 How I am in this photo is a side effect from unconsciously following a mothering model that values independence and perfection. It’s also a side effect from: * Doing the work of an entire village... * My husband working away for months at a time & solo parenting * Hiring help but did not know how to delegate so I ended up looking after a third child * Giving to others and not taking time out to give back to myself (and if I did- I had major guilt around it) * Confiding to others but only getting back spite, opinions and comparison * Broken sleep from a 7 month old breast feeding throughout the night and teething * Looking at external sources such as business, certification, material and achievements to validate my worth * Being responsible for the upbringing of 2 young human beings * Having chronic lower back, groin & hip pain * Not knowing my worth and thinking this is normal and deserving of not being good enough This photo was taken on the 17th December 2017. My husband had just got home from working away and I remember collapsing on the floor and telling him ‘I feel trapped’ I told him all I want to do is just go for a walk. After some nature, expression (the crying) and movement, I started to feel the stuck emotion dissolve within 30 minutes. That’s all I needed! These days I have made sure ‘me time’ and coming back to myself with self-love is more consistent and guilt free. I’m not perfect and I still have my hard days but nothing like it was like in this photo. I now know my worth. It was there all along. I was born with it. Nothing external increases it. And... being a mother doesn’t make it go away. PS- I remember taking this photo not because I thought to do a post about it but because I didn’t recognise myself! https://melissaayling.com.au/work-with-me/

16.01.2022 This is me all the time

15.01.2022 It’s so heart breaking that it’s the women that need to do all the processing & healing... when is the system (and the caregivers that work for a system and not the women) going to do all the processing and healing and make it better for women so they don’t have to go through this? On paper, Georgie had a good birth. Shortly after the examination, her baby was born, at home, in the birth pool. Everyone was healthy and well at least physically. At an emotional and psychological level, however, there was much for Georgie to unpick in the weeks that followed. Not only did she feel her body had been completely violated, but that her loving husband had unwittingly become complicit in this act. https://www.independent.co.uk//metoo-birth-room-consent-gi

15.01.2022 I was getting to know more about social media & birth more than I knew myself! That’s why I’ve been quiet on here the past few months. I have been uncoaching myself from others.... Letting go of what’s worked for them and rediscovering what works for me and my sovereignty. Letting go of their structures, systems and even ‘their’ intuition . (Coaches, books, workshops, training etc) These past few months my priority (and what will be for the next year or so until it becomes my way of life) is being present with my family, doing the inner work, spending time in nature and my special offerings. There is so much value in motherhood too and not just in business, helping others & achievements. I have been going inwards and listening to my inner voice. The voice of both my heart & womb. I’ve been doing a lot of womb healing as well which I believe has been the deepest level of healing for me so far. Yes all my special & sacred offerings are still in my flow too. I have ‘The Positive Birth Program’ (Hypnobirthing Australia) classes coming up on the 18th & 25th October and 29th Nov & 6th Dec. The Pregnancy day retreat on Sat 21st Nov has only 2 spaces left! I have reiki sessions available again in November (I’m currently on holidays and having adventures at the Abrolhos Islands then I go to The Sisterhood Rising Festival.) My postnatal doula support is booked out until 2021! I will be back on here more consistently all in divine timing but right now I don’t feel the need. Let go and let goddess! 12.01.2022 "EFM began as a noble attempt to conquer a centuries old plague - cerebral palsy - but has been turned into a nightmare for birth caregivers and increased the c...hances that women and babies may experience harm from what should be a happy experience. While trial lawyers certainly deserve the blame for starting, perpetuating, and profiting from the EFM-CP hoax, physicians share equally in the blame for these half century old hoaxes that have become a shameful stain on an honourable profession. Physicians’ vincible ignorance in this continuing hoax is apparent for all to see. But to paraphrase Jeremiah, there are none so blind as those who will not see." This is a quote from the conclusion of an article just published in The Indian Journal of Medical Ethics. In "Cerebral palsy litigation after fifty years: A hoax on you," Sartwelle et al (2020) detail the story of what the describe as the "hoax" of electronic fetal monitoring. From the early myths to how some of those linked with one of the first companies manufacturing, promoting, and selling EFM machines were also the creators, testers, researchers and authors of the studies which cemented EFM in obstetric practice, this freely available article deserves to be widely read and shared by anyone who is involved in birth and/or needing to make decisions about whether EFM is something they want as part of their care. The full article can be found at https://ijme.in//cerebral-palsy-litigation-after-fifty-ye/ If you'd like to know more, lots more studies on EFM and related topics are shared and discussed at www.sarawickham.com #midwife #midwifery #doula #birthdoula #pregnant #birth #childbirth #duein2020 #drsarawickham #positivebirth #childbirtheducation #childbirtheducator #whatsrightforme #efm #ctg See more

11.01.2022 Couldn't scroll by. I'm livid. I want you to know, there's a massive difference between obstetrically managed vaginal birth, and normal physiological birth. .... . Homebirth has a roughly 90% spontaneous vaginal birth rate and an 80% intact perineum rate. It's half that in most hospitals. We just don't see these appalling birth injuries at home births. . . So if birth itself is not producing these terrible, life-altering injuries .... what IS??? . . From Maternity Consumer Network: . . "Does anyone really believe this bullshit data used in this "study"!?! There is NOTORIOUS under-reporting in private practice. This was raised in the 2017 Australia Atlas of Healthcare Variations for 3/4th degree tears. - 11-fold variance in 3/4th degree tears across care providers - questions wer raised about under-reporting or diagnosis (more diplomatic than we are being though!) Private OBs are notorious for routinely inducing women, high routine epidurals, episitomies, instruments......all risk factors for severe perineal trauma. Consumers who don't have a clue about how data is collected and why there are variances would believe the article as truth. " . . From Janet Fraser, Joyous Birth: . . "Obstetric lobby groups will do anything to try and manipulate women into highly intervened births. The idea anyone might be considering birthing at home without their dubious services during the pandemic obviously means women should be coerced back into hospitals asap. None of this serves women, it just serves the obstetric system. Resist, women. Own your births and don't believe their bullshit."

10.01.2022 Only 3 spaces left!!! I can’t wait!

10.01.2022 So many cultures honour and nurture women at this transition in life. It helps us women to grow and transform into the mothers our child has come for. It’s time for our culture to do the same.... Deepest gratitude to all the courageous mamas who showed up for themselves and each other, creating a magical and powerful retreat. 09.01.2022 Highly recommend Vicki for doula training!

09.01.2022 I now let go of the ones who: * Want to keep me small so they can look and feel bigger * Don’t support my choices & judge... * Compete, compare & are jealous * Gossip about me & others * Want me to fail * Silence me * Shame me for my mistakes I am not perfect though. I can sense if someone is doing this to me because I have done things like that before either to myself or to others hence why I attract it. Us womben just need to STOP doing this to each other and ourselves. It’s time to: Stop. Forgive. Rise I now call in who: * I can be myself around and shine my light * Believe in me and support me no matter what * Want to see me succeed * Celebrate my wins with me * Uplift and support me * Give me the space to grow and transform * Love me unconditionally * Have a positive energy * I can share my hopes, dreams and wishes with I’ve already started to fill my life with trusting, loving and soul enriching siSTARS this past year and there seems to be getting more and more of them. I attract what I believe I am worthy of. Gratitude www.melissaayling.com.au

03.01.2022 Recently I finished writing my Bachelor's thesis about the portrayal of Menstruation in media and society - a real taboo topic. So taboo in fact, that the coord...inator of my German university not only refused to help me but actively discouraged me from formulating this topic in a way to find a supervisor. (She told me that I would never find a professor who would approve this topic. To paraphrase what they said in English, there is no scientific bases for this topic and the reason for that: it's a taboo). Now that I've successfully completed my bachelor thesis and defended it before a panel of professors in my final presentation, everybody involved has recognized the importance of this topic since ignorance surrounding menstruation has wide reaching consequences for the environment, the economy and financial and social gender equality. I'm not trying to convince you to throw a "period party", neither am I going to wave a used tampon underneath your nose. I just want people to be aware of some important facts: Half of the population of the world loses approximately a 30-50 milliliters of blood every month (for approximately 40 years of their live time - this makes up six and a half years in total). Although this process is crucial for the origin of every single human being, menstruating people have been heavily discriminated in many major religious texts and even scientific medical consensus up to the middle of the 20th century. The connotation of menstruating women evokes images of poisonous monsters, the devil, psychological and physical deficits and above all, in the vast majority of cases, being depicted as unclean and inferior. (This is part of the old testament: "When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening." To sum up the entire text, menstruating women should be completely excluded from society and live like a hermit for seven days. After which, in order to return to civilization they are also required to bring two doves to a priest who will sacrifice them in a ceremony to "purify" the woman. If people don't guard against this "uncleanliness" the whole society will collapse. [Leviticus 15:19-33]. No bullshit.) Ofcourse, you can say that as a society we have developed past such extreme views, but in fact this attitude still presents itself in more subtle ways. Nowadays women are still being stigmatized (She´s just grumpy because she's on her period. We can't have a female leader - what if she starts a war when she gets her period!!??) and portrayed as hysterical, over emotional and not being able to make clear decisions. (Remembering Trump's comment about Fox moderator Megyn Kelly....) As a consequence women and girls feel ashamed and uncomfortable, whisper to each other like criminals when they need a tampon because of their "biological weakness" and are not taken seriously when they have ailments related to their period. Worldwide, every day, women and girls are being held back in social situations, education and work, don't have access to sanitary products or are being excluded from society due to lack of education and are being declared as unclean and inferior. In India 20 percent of girls drop out of school with the beginning of their menstruation. In many other countries women are socially prohibited from leaving the house during their menstruation due to a fear that they are contagious and could spread diseases like cancer. Even in Germany, half of the women say that they feel uncomfortable in social situations while menstruating. 16 percent of them have described missing school, work or other engagmentents because they are afraid (!!) that others might notice that they are on their period. So in fact, this social stigma is so strong that people will remove themselves from society during their period! Many women feel shame when buying tampons in a supermarket (in Germany, this is reported as one out of five) and on top of that, it costs them an arm and a leg! Pads and tampons are taxed heavily almost everywhere. In Germany, they are taxed 19 % which is the highest possible for general goods (higher than totally necessary items like salmon caviar or cut flowers). If you ask yourself "who would make up such a rule?" it doesn't take long to realize: People who don't menstruate. Over a lifetime, women pay on average a four-digit number just for their period (according to bloodyluxurytax.de 8600 Euro including almost 1650 in taxes).* This reinforces gender and economic inequality, while there is already a gender pay-gap in Germany and on top of that women are required to pay an extra cost every month for their essential needs. Btw for everybody who hasn't heard of it before, there is a reusable, hygienic alternative to tampons called the menstrual cup (or moon cup) which is of course not made of ceramic but medical silicon . Not only is this a lot cheaper because you buy it once for around 20 Euros, and it lasts for years but it is also a better option for the environment because it prevents thousands of tonnes of disposed tampons and pads ending up in landfill. Luckily, in recent years there is movement starting to grow in order to change the attitude towards periods. In some countries the "tampon tax" has been abolished or lowered. Even on the day I presented my thesis, Scotland decided to give sanitary products away for free to low income women. (In your face university!!) This is part of the reason why I am posting this and why I wrote this thesis in the first place. To stop period shaming, raise awareness of economic inequality and the mistreatment of women because of this natural bodily function. We have to end this taboo in order to create a more fair and equal society. So I ask you to talk about this issue, raise your voice against this stupid tax, write papers about it and embarrass ignorant professors (my examiners - especially the male ones - were left speechless and had to acknowledge the value of this work) - and everybody calm down. It's just a bit of blood. #bloodyluxurytax #period #menstruation #menstruationmatters #erdbeerwoche #SCA #planinternational #unicef #vivalavulva #pinktax #tamponsteuer This is the original post which I created a few days ago in German: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10211997735770830&set=a.1088265418962&type=3&theater¬if_t=feedback_reaction_generic¬if_id=1535730007697666 check out my blog: www.frankafrei.com *source: http://www.bloodyluxurytax.de +++Update 2020: I’ve written and published a book about the political dimension of periods in German Periode ist politisch. 01.01.2022 Someone’s judgement is them just projecting their own uncertainties about themselves onto you. Someone’s judgement is just reassurance that you are in your truth. Someone’s judgement is just proof that they judge themselves even more than you- it’s part of their mindset.... You don’t have to please them by being like them. You don’t have to dim your light. You don’t have to keep yourself small so they can be big. Keep going. Lean into the uncertainty. Follow your heart. Speak your truth. Shine bright. Love yourself. Be you.
