25.01.2022 You've got this !!

25.01.2022 Anxiety 1 billion thoughts (all at the same time) None of them helpful

25.01.2022 You’ve got this If you need a little bit of help in being able to do this, send me a message xo

25.01.2022 How is everybody going? This is an incredibly tough and an unnatural way for humans to live, with no human contact. Whilst I understand why we need to do what we are doing I also worry for people’s mental health, particularly those who live alone and don’t have anybody to get through this with....

24.01.2022 Don’t forget to remind yourself on those particularly bad days that your track record of getting through these days is 100%. You’ll get through this one too and remember that you don’t have to do this alone... #BeyondBlue #MentalHealthWeek2017 #IAmHereForYou #Depression #Suicideprevention #Anxiety

23.01.2022 A perfect way to describe mental illness..... it's very difficult to move out of that head space on your own. This is why counselling works so well to bring awareness and treatment. Call 0414 559 707 for help or message through this page.

23.01.2022 Struggling a bit.... but doing your best

22.01.2022 Don't EVER feel guilty or selfish for needing to rest. Show yourself some compassion, let yourself rest and heal... Panic attacks are absolutely exhausting, you'll need to sleep for a while afterwards and that's ok. Everything else can wait because you can't pour from an empty cup ;-) ! xo

20.01.2022 Meet 'Prince Zulu'... my assistant therapist He's our beautiful black stallion... It's a different way to have a 'counselling session' but can be quite effective... If you think this kind of session is something that could help you or someone you know, send me a message and and we can organise a day...

20.01.2022 Yeah... in ya face Anxiety !! This is one of the things that I do with my clients. Stand up to anxiety "ha, is that the best you got cause I can handle that" or "well, I'm going to the shops anyway and you can't stop me because I know i'll be ok". Depending on your situation and what your anxiety is telling you we can work out what works best for you. With the encouragement and reinforcement of a counsellor you can beat anxiety and only have it show up when it's needed,... when you are actually in danger. Check out this cute video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dQ2OWp1RFk See more

20.01.2022 Your thoughts are the ONLY thing that affect how you feel... Change them and you'll change how you feel... If you have never had counselling you might be wondering what happens in counselling sessions... I take a CBT (cognitive behavioural approach)... We look at your though processes... What are you telling yourself, your self-talk? ... What are your automatic reactions to things, people, situations... etc. I bring an awareness of your thoughts so you can learn to identify unhelpful thoughts and change them... this will also help you to identify faulty thinking patterns so you can change them too... an example is catastrophising, something that most of us a pretty good at! Do you think I can help you? Message me to find out more about my Counselling or to make an appointment. See more

20.01.2022 You can change how you feel within a few weeks simply by looking at your thoughts/responses. If you have tried on your own and haven't seen any real change perhaps I can help get you over the line... Feeling overwhelmed can lead to anxiety and/or depression but there is a solution!

20.01.2022 If you suffer with Anxiety or Panic Attacks, you need to read this. It could be the turning point you've been searching for! http://counselling.mckeown.net.au/blog/?p=39

20.01.2022 AFFIRMATIONS... do they really work? So when I say 'affirmations' I am referring to repetitive helpful thoughts in place of the unhelpful thoughts, coping statements. They really do work for anxiety and depression and if you've ever tried them and they haven't worked... I'd say that you just need to practice for longer and more often... ... Have you tried them and have they worked for you? Share with me your favourite 'coping statement aka affirmation' that has helped you. If you've tried and they haven't helped maybe I can help. Let's sit down and write out a plan of attack to get you over the line...

18.01.2022 A cool little video... what is depression? https://www.facebook.com/TEDEducation/videos/1098052813541257/?hc_ref=ARRiRCkBQYmWHod0HbKSHMako9wEKTU1uSpm6_-pKvXWhFmQrtLqlIRICALSBdBmkEI&fref=gs&dti=1319004998213310&hc_location=group

17.01.2022 WHY is it that an individual keeps on doing something that makes him/her unhappy? The answer seems to be that neurotic behaviour receives strong and immediate reinforcement in the brain because it temporarily reduces or avoids anxiety... the immediate reward override the long-term consequences. This is where counselling can help. Message me to find out more!

14.01.2022 I had a hard time deciding what to post tonight but decided on this one... Me: What could possibly go wrong? Anxiety: I'm glad you asked............ blah blah blah! uuuugh, don't you know it! I chose this one because I'm currently writing a blog about 'what IS anxiety anyway' and it covers this type of thinking....

02.01.2022 Chapter post on Self-Talk! How helpful (or unhelpful) is yours? Self talk develops over time through repetition. Although the brain is a complex organ, the way our brains 'learn' is quite simple. It's through repetition and association. This is why counselling for anxiety, panic, phobias and depression work so well. We address the repetitive unhelpful thoughts and have you practice more helpful, realistic and productive thought repetitively... that's the key !!! http://counselling.mckeown.net.au/blog/?p=48
