22.01.2022 BE ADVENTUROUS, BE BOLD, BE CREATIVE with the lighting layout in your Bedroom. BE DECADENT with multiple grouped pendants. Your bedroom is a place to escape, relax and rest so the room doesn’t need to be evenly lit. Think about creating ambience and layering based on the different functions. For example, ACCENT lighting for drawing the eye to a particular feature. TASK lighting for reading where you are needing to focus.... Have fun, play around with the many different options. 15.01.2022 THE DESIGN OF OUR SPACES SHOULD MAKE US FEEL more connected and present to the people around us. I’m curious what comes up for you with this? If you are up for sharing, I would genuinely love to hear from you. For me, it makes me think about WHO I desire to feel more connected with, WHY do I desire that connection and WHAT does feeling more connected actually look and feel like. ... It’s from that place that my curiosity and reflectiveness kicks in. Is the way that i’m living congruent with connections that I desire? Does my home + work space encourage, foster and nurture those connections? When designing, particularly in the early stages, I bring that same curiosity and intuition so that we can deep dive together to understand, at a core level, your vision. 11.01.2022 HAVE YOU EVER HAD THE EXPERIENCE AS someone is speaking with you, of noticing that the words they are using are expressing something very different to that of their body language AND their energy that you are experiencing? Or have you ever taken action on something knowing that it goes against your internal values or a particular belief? Over the years I've experienced connections with people who would say some nasty things, with a smile on their face and a comical tone... in their voice. I've made many decisions, both big and small, to placate others whilst ignoring who I am and what I believe in. In every instance, there is ALWAYS a physcial and energetic awareness within myself that something is off and not right. HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO MY DESIGNING FAMILY HOMES? I believe that your sacred space, should be a physical reflection of who you are on the inside. I believe every interaction and decision throughout the design journey, should be congruent with who we are and what we stand for! In short, it's about CONGRUENCE. The height draws your eye up, so it not only adds elegance and character, it also adds to the sense of overall space. It's an example of one of the many elements a Building + Interior Designer is across when designing your space. 08.01.2022 MY BEST HOME DESIGNS COME TO LIFE WHEN I'M IN A 'FLOW STATE'. It's when the design has my full attention AND it's the singular thing I'm focused on and immersed in. According to Csikszentmihalyi, The best moments in our lives are not the passive, receptive, relaxing times the best moments usually occur if a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile. which is why ENGAGEMENT + CONCENTRATION... are key in achieving flow state. As a creative, who always has a zillion and one idea's swirling around in my mind, I recognise the importance of training my mind to be CALM + CLEAR. That's where my practice of meditation and mindfulness comes in. By training for non-distraction and focus, the more likely I am to experience that precious flow state. 05.01.2022 MY CHILDHOOD, FOR THE MOST PART, WAS SPENT GROWING UP ON THE LAND. As kids we were always encouraged to spend more time outdoors than in. The connection I feel with the outdoors, without a doubt, stems from my childhood experiences. AND the more I continue on my life journey of discovering and exploring what it means to me both as an individual and within a family unit, to live a soulful life. The more I awaken to the gift of nature and how through design it's possible... to celebrate and integrate nature with our internal spaces. Allowing the two to speak with each other. REST Is it your bedtime ritual of unplugging from technology an hour before sleep, curling up in bed with your feather filled quilt and a good book.... RELAX Is it soaking in a bath filled with bath salts, surrounded by candles and with relaxing music playing. RESTORE Our homes are the ideal place for us to fill up and nourish our souls. AND when we are truly connected with ourselves, we are then able to connect on a deeper level with those that matter the most to us. From my own journey through cancer and now as a single parent, I understand the impact AND importance of having a home that supports the nourishment of my soul.
