22.01.2022 The children at ECTARC The Basin Education and Care Service take responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing. As part of their Munch and Move program, the children are learning about growing their own nutritious food. They have planted carrot, basil and sunflower seeds and are watering the strawberry plants to ensure they grow delicious strawberries to eat. Fingers crossed for a bumper crop.
22.01.2022 Children have a fundamental right to be protected and kept safe. A strong sense of wellbeing promotes children’s confidence and optimism. In Child Protection Week, we reflect on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child - right to health, education and protection.
22.01.2022 Early Learning Matters at Warilla Education and Care Service. In a time where the citizens around the world have had to implement change, early childhood services have maintained a strong focus on the education and wellbeing of young children. #earlylearningmatters
22.01.2022 Science Week at ECTARC Smith Street Education and Care Service focused on water and caring for our oceans, developIng an awareness of the impact of human activity on environments and the interdependence of living things. The scientific learning experiences focused on keeping waterways safe and pollution free. The children investigated the difference between floating and sinking, by adding different items to a water tray, observing that paper floated and the rocks sank. They discovered how easy it is for the ocean life to become trapped in the polluted waters. Other experiments included understanding different types of water and the impact on sea life, plants, shells and rocks.
21.01.2022 A strong sense of wellbeing is the inspiration for the relaxation space at ECTARC Jerry Bailey Education and Care Service. Educators recognise the importance of physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing and provide a range of active and restful experiences for children throughout the day. This supports children to develop a sense of belonging, to trust others and feel confident in being themselves and to participate in experiences that support their personal growth (Early Years Learning Framework, p. 30)
20.01.2022 To all of our educators and staff, thank you for being amazing. 2020 has thrown us many challenges, however all of our teams have stepped up and have not changed focus. Your focus remains children and delivering quality early learning programs which support children’s wellbeing and educational outcomes. We are proud of you all.

14.01.2022 At ECTARC Smith Street Education and Care Service, the children engage in Dadirri - their inner deep listening and still awareness. This spiritual skill is practised every day outdoors, where the children focus on what they can hear around them. They can close their eyes or focus on a tree, a bird, the clouds or a flower, whatever they can see. The key to this exercise is simply being. #EarlyLearningMatters

09.01.2022 NAIDOC Week 2020 - Celebrations at ECTARC Keiraview Education and Care Service were an opportunity for the children and educators to immerse themselves in culture, songs and music, art and craft, Country, literacy and dreaming stories and reflect on this years theme ‘Always Was. Always Will Be.’ The service joined into the Taronga Park Zoo’s NAIDOC Week Animals of Dreaming live stream session and connected with The Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Mandy, their wonderful Cook s...hared her knowledge of the local areas where she grew up and told the children stories about goannas that would hide in the trees around her school and try to take her lunch. Mandy made lemon myrtle cookies for the children to eat and there were no goannas in sight, just full bellies. The service is excited to continue on their journey of Reconciliation through thoughtful and educational experiences with the children. See more
09.01.2022 As regular supporters of The Indigenous Literacy Foundation, ECTARC Smith Street Education and Care Service celebrated Indigenous Literacy Day by reading one of their favourite books and creating a display. What Do You See? In particular, the Possum who sees the Geebung fruit on the tree led to the children researching the Geebung tree and putting together their own version of the tree. The children made the red Geebungs to stick to the tree and added possum tracks to the trunk as they are sure he sneaks up the tree during the night to eat the fruit. The children then created a picnic area under the Geebung tree and could be heard having many conversations around what the possum does at night when we sleep and he is awake. They then drew what they had discussed, using symbols and colours to tell their own stories.

06.01.2022 After the team at ECTARC Hospital Hill Education and Care Service participated in a Mind Stretches Professional Development webinar Introduction to Floor Books with Clare Warden, they have implemented the Floor Book approach to their Cycle of Planning with the children in the Early Learning Room. Educators have found this to be a meaningful and purposeful child-led approach to observation, documentation and planning. The children’s voices (both verbal and non-verbal) are captured and enables them to make choices and decisions that influence events and their world.

05.01.2022 Yellow for hope days at ECTARC Jerry Bailey Education and Care Service. ECTARC Jerry Bailey was a sea of yellow this week, raising awareness of suicide and mental health. The neighbouring communities of Kiama, Gerringong and Jamberoo have been tragically touched by these issues over the pasts month. Yellow is the colour of hope.... wearing yellow to promote to families and thr community that they hear and see the impact of mental health and hope that they can bring about ch...ange. Educators continue to support children’s mental health by listening, talking with and assisting children to identify and understand their feelings. Encouraging conversation is key to building trusting relationships and help young children to gain strategies to support their mental health for a life long journey. For something fun everyone brought in a yellow banana to make delicious smoothies. #mentalhealthmatters#yellowforhope#childrenareourfuture See more

04.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK 2020 celebrations at ECTARC Hospital Hill Education and Care Service Documenting children’s thinking, questioning and learning has been a focus for the educators at ECTARC Hospital Hill, as this supports them in their future planning and programming. For NAIDOC Week, the children focused on a different local Aboriginal community member each day, discussing their lives, work and connection to the local community. Using the Floorbook, the Preschool Room documented their learning journey. This will also enable the children to revisit their learning and build on their knowledge and understanding in the future. Reconciliation in action.

03.01.2022 Child Protection Week at ECTARC Alunga Education and Care Service was an opportunity to read the SAFE Book Series with the children and share information with families. Children and educators had discussions ’safe people‘, identifying who were their safe people - mum, dad , nana, pop, aunty, uncle, educators, firemen, police, ambulance officers. Supporting children to take part in discussions about their safety, empowers children with knowledge and opportunities for them to participate in decisions that affect them. #childprotectionisourresponsibility
