25.01.2022 Ok. So tonight would normaly be a training night for the Melbourne students. We would actually be starting about now. Here are just a few thoughts from me. We all train for many different reasons.... The obvious ones are health, fitness, etc. For some people its focus, discipline, tradition, etc. Others have an interest in Japanese history and philosophy , etc. There are also numerous other reasons. The point is that it's not something that we can just put on hold. Not something that we can drop overnight. When we step into the Dojo and put on our Gi, we should feel like we are doing something more than just training. Eventually the concept of obligation becomes more and more important. GIRI. So, put on the uniform. Pick up your weapon and train. Train with the thoughts of all those who have trained before you. All of those who have the same GIRI. Even just a hundred Suburi cuts. It will feel good to do it. Not just for the hands and the body, but also the heart and the mind - SHIN. This virus scenario might go on for a while. We cant let it stop us. I'm putting together a program. It will involve students keeping a record of their own personal training during this time. I will also give some detailed training exercises and concepts. I am missing my students very much and hope you are all staying healthy. Remember that its the same as in daily life. We don't carry the sword in our hand or in our obi, we carry the sword in our heart and our mind - Shin. Tim

25.01.2022 Training update. Classes will be postponed until further notice. I will be organising some exercises and videos for home training along with focus on theory and philosophy so we can continue during this situation. Tim

20.01.2022 Training from home. First and foremost I hope everyone is staying healthy out there. For this first training from home session we don't need to be too formal. Uniform is not essential, and Bokuto would even be enough. It doesn't have to be done tonight, it can be any time over the next couple of days. I would like students to practice some basic stances and perform 200 suburi cuts. 100 for this week and 100 from last weeks missed class. Remember Hara, Zanshin and breathing,... releasing the breath just after the Dome of the cut. Practice your japanese counting in your head as you do it. Remember 100 is Hyaku. So for example 127 would be Hyaku-Ni-Ju-Nanna. Finishing on Ni-Hyaku. Then please read the following short essay on ShinKen that I wrote some years ago. Try to look at ShinKen in ways you haven't before. Practice ShinKen a few times with the sword and also at other times during the week without it. We will be discussing this in more detail at a later date and i will be asking for comments and observations. Over the next few weeks Sensei Max, Sensei Adrian, Sensei Herve and myself will have different types of home training exercises to keep us all engaged on different levels. Tim

13.01.2022 Training update. We will be continuing training as usual with a few small changes. Flowing the guidelines we will try to maintain 1.5 metre distancing and limit the hall opening to 2 hours. No need to shake hands, a traditional bow will be much better. If you're feeling unwell please don't come in.... Otherwise see you tonight. Tim See more

04.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone. Hope to see you back in the Dojo soon. Please keep up your training at home. I am expecting people to participate in the homework that... will be set to keep up your attendance for grading eligibility next year. Stay healthy. Cheers. Tim See more
