22.01.2022 Best Finals Players: Kevin Rose By Michael Roberts When you play your first full game in the cauldron of a preliminary final, you learn pretty quickly what finals footy is all about.... And maybe that's why Kevin Rose came to be such a highly regarded finals player: having been thrown in at the deep end to start with, he simply knew no other way. Kevin made his full senior debut in the 1958 preliminary final. He'd started on the bench three times previously, the last of those having come the week before when the Magpies were smashed by Norm Smith's all conquering Demons in the second semi-final. 20.01.2022 Happy 60th Birthday today to Collingwood Football Club cult legend and 1990 premiership hero Dennis Banks.
19.01.2022 Happy Birthday to the Collingwood Football Club! On February 12th, 1892, a meeting was held at the Collingwood Town Hall for citizens to discuss the possibility of establishing a football team to play in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) competition that year. Popular politician William Beazley MLA chaired the meeting in front of a packed out Town Hall with several people climbing up into the windows to observe proceedings. It was never really in doubt, the Collingwood... Football Club had to happen. Victoria Park was proclaimed the place to play. W. D. Beazley, in his first role as club president, secured a 600 loan from the council to level and top dress the surface and erect a picket fence around the ground. The VFA approved the club's admission for the 1892 season and the first game was scheduled to be played at Princes Park against fellow working class club Carlton on Saturday May 7th. In a gesture of goodwill Carlton agree to move the game to Victoria Park and give Collingwood the gate takings to get us started. Carlton was a fellow working class club in those days and a strong advocate for our inclusion into the VFA...oh how times have changed. A new grandstand was also quickly drawn up to be built to provide offices and facilities for the players but this would not be opened until mid-June and in the meantime the players used the Yarra Hotel in Johnston Street to change and run up Rich Street to the ground for the games. Happy Birthday to the Mighty Magpies! Floreat Pica!

14.01.2022 Debate will always rage on about who the best Collingwood player was. At the top of the list sit names like Rose, Buckley, Daicos and even Pendlebury, closely followed by Millane, McKenna, Coventry, Collier, Lee and Merrett among a plethora of other Magpie legends. However, when it comes to the greatest Collingwood person of all time, one name stands above them: Bobby Rose. A man of unwavering devotion to his club and who carried himself in all facets of life with incred...ible humility and grace. Bob was born on August 7th in 1928 and today would have been his 91st Birthday. Happy Birthday Bobby Rose
13.01.2022 Vale Allan McAlister It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of a great Collingwood President yesterday morning. 'Big Al' turned the Magpies around in his time as president and deservedly oversaw the breaking of our longest premiership drought by winning the 1990 flag.... Sometimes controversial but undeniably Collingwood to his core. Rest in peace Allan

02.01.2022 Nicole Hales' grandfather Brian Sullivan ran out for Collingwood's U19's team exactly 59 years ago to play in the 1960 U19's premiership win over Geelong. It was Collingwood's first ever U19's premiership since the 'thirds' started in 1946. Nicole is pictured here wearing her grandfather's jumper at Victoria Park. 01.01.2022 Vale Peter Lucas Collingwood FC 1949-1959 177 games and 1 goal 1958 Premiership player... Born 23.11.1929 and passed away on September 16th 2019 aged 89. A good mark and relieving kick from the half back flank. Had pace and plenty of skill and a high degree of consistency. Peter missed the 1952 and 1953 grand finals due to injury but was a key member of the 1958 premiership winning team. Peter also played in the losing 1956 Grand Final against Melbourne. After retiring from Collingwood in 1959 Peter went on to coach Cheltenham in the Federal League. He returned to the committee at Victoria Park to pursue an interest in administration that had started with a stint as players’ representative. In 1966 he became assistant secretary, and a few years later general manager. Peter resigned in 1975 but returned in 1977 and stayed until 1981. Peter's contribution to the Collingwood story over more than three decades was profound and wide reaching. We send our sincerest condolences to the Lucas family and to all of Peter's friends and colleagues. (Peter is pictured here in the 1958 premiership team photo second from the right on the bottom row)
