25.01.2022 These two crazy pups have been running a muck around their home causing their poor pet parents some stress. Miss Olive lovesssss to use her voice to alert everyone about everything that is happening in life. ... During our session we explored not what we do say to the dogs to influence behaviour, but actually what we dont say. I worked with Spencer and Olives pet parents to start developing some physical presence to help move the dogs between rooms or to remain on a boundary. And it worked like a charm! The dogs immediately began waiting at doors and going outside when required. We then layered in a YES marker to help communicate to the dogs when they were successful. This is super important! You need to be able to tell the dog it had success and in doing so, it receives reward. Without this communication, the behaviours you want are not likely to be repeated. We saw a HUGE difference in both dogs! And Im looking forward to what is to come!

25.01.2022 Awwwwww Poor Pooch!

24.01.2022 These gorgeous boys Scooby and Franky have been working on verbal compliance... . If we dont put enough value into behaviours, we are likely to see a dog that doesnt really care to comply. Its important, especially when you are starting out, !... In other words, dont be a tightarse!! Once we started adding value for particular behaviours, the boys were happy to offer them freely. Well done Scooby and Franky!

24.01.2022 This week these two progressed to being around each other off lead. Latte is pretty cheeky and Crema has showed some amazing impulse control!... How cute is this photo of them sleeping together?!

24.01.2022 These two dogs constantly challenge my intelligence every single day! Yogi 8 and Vixen 1 are always showing me where my training gaps are and just when I think Ive outsmarted them, they exploit me! If you have a working breed, you get it. ... Post a photo of the dog that outsmarts you:

23.01.2022 ? One of our absolute favourite independent pet wellness stores is Wholefood Pet Market which is now located in Burleigh. Janine stocks a stack of fresh commercial products, awesome holistic supplements, good quality toys and training equipment. ... Vixen and I visited over the weekend, checked out their brand new space and stocked up on some much needed chews and food for dinner. They are now located at 5/19 Township Drive, West Burleigh and are open Mon - Friday 12-5pm or Saturday 10-3pm. Make sure you check them out! #supportlocal #supportsmallbusinesses

23.01.2022 !! Today I met little Lexi and Ozkie for a private session. Mr Ozkie was a total super star as a puppy and picked up toilet training super easy. However, his little sister Lexi isn’t quite sure what she needs to do. ... Sometimes when you get a puppy, it can be common to compare them to previous dogs, especially same breeds etc. However it is SUPER important to treat each dog as an individual and change what you do if it’s required to help your dog achieve success! Little Lexi needs a more solid routine, less liberty and to be set up for success at every available opportunity. This is what we worked on during our session. We also talked about how feeding processed food can affect your puppy’s toileting routine. Overall, we put some new strategies in place and had a great outcome of no accidents at all. If you are struggling with toilet training consider checking out our blog over at That Dog School: https://www.thatdogschool.com/toilet-training-your-puppy/ Or book a session with me! I’m super excited to work with this team!

22.01.2022 Over the weekend myself and my counter part Julia and our That Dog School tribe ventured off on our first ever camping trip together. This post really encapsulates why our training is different at That Dog School. Dog training goes beyond having an obedient dog; sure thats great. ... But to me, Im more interested in having a dog. Check out what our experience was like with our 6 dogs:

22.01.2022 Crema and Lattes relationship has definitely progressed this week. Miss Crema has been showing some lovely relaxed bed boundaries around Latte and has been tethered. ... Latte is pretty confident and has progressed to wanting to play and tease Crema Next week we progress to off lead interaction. We will be focusing on Crema having the ability to check out from Latte and have handler focus. Well done guys for your work leading up to this point.

21.01.2022 Ill be working with this beautiful little boy to help him develop some better inside boundaries and to help him learn how to relax on his walks. Marty is super over stimulated by the prospect of leaving the house and exploring that he tends to check out from his pet parents. ... Our goal will be to develop more focus and engagement when out and about. I look forward to working with Marty and his family.

21.01.2022 ! This morning I met with Rufus and his dedicated pet parent Stella to work on his reactivity towards skateboards, rollerblades and scooters. Stella mentioned that Rufy couldnt even be within the vicinity of a skateboard without barking at it. ... Our session was about breaking this up into bite size achievable stages that finished with Rufus being able to walk beside a moving skateboard. Naturally, all that hard work deserved a swim in the lake for his solid efforts! Well done Rufus and Stella on your work this morning. You guys have come such a long way!

21.01.2022 ? One of the first things we automatically think when a dog is overweight is that they need more exercise. Often pet parents will enlist a dog walker to assist with getting in the kms to cut that weight down. ... ? Overweight dogs have so much extra pressure being placed on their joints. And constant hard repetitive movements like street walking, especially for long periods of time can contribute to those joints weakening and as a result, injuries caused. It doesnt mean you cant walk your dog, in fact you definitely should. But here is what you can do to lighten the load and ensure your dog isnt in pain and on the path to a healthy weight: Change your dogs current diet. If you are still feeding dry processed food, thats where your problem is. All those extra carbohydrates and sugar are counterproductive to your end goal. Join this community to be guided along the way of feeding FRESH food: www.facebook.com/groups/rawandfresh/ Walk for smaller periods of time. Start with 15 minutes twice a day and then build up to 30 minutes slowly. Have a rest day ever 3rd day. Dog walkers tend to do a stack of kms which is why your dog comes back exhausted. Think about preserving health before physically exhausting your dog. Get an amazing joint supplement into your dog like Antinol. Your dogs joints will love you for it and it will assist with the increased exercise as your dog gets fitter. Enlist help from a professional. Get in contact with me if youd like some extra help with your dogs weight loss. A consultation is a $35 investment! Thats it. Remember, your dog cant tell you hey buddy, my legs are killing me right now so you need to advocate for them. If you have an overweight dog, do something productive to get on the right track!

21.01.2022 : Beautiful Lexi and her family originally came to me to help develop some lead manners and general control around the home. We have had 2 private lessons in total and Lexi came and stayed with me over night to further work on her skills.... Lexi is walking on a lead beautifully, maintaining bed boundaries, understanding when toy play starts and ends, showing calm behaviour at cafes and shops, and following rules around the house. So proud of this puppa and her family for their awesome work!

20.01.2022 !! Marlee contacted me about her little dog Archie that was causing some serious issues inside the home. We set up some new routines and started rewarding Archie for what we wanted to see more of. As a result things are starting to look harmonious. ... Well done guys!! Absolutely love the feed back!

20.01.2022 ... Thursday morning started like any morning. At 6:45am I was sitting on the deck, drinking a coffee and doing work. Yogi, who had been down on the grass toileting, raced up the deck to me holding her rear left leg up and visible distressed. All my dogs were trained to show me when they have an ant bite or a bindi, so I can get it out quickly....Continue reading

20.01.2022 Seriously, who isnt obsessed with a Groodle?! I absolutely LOVE working with these cheeky, happy go lucky, goofy dogs, especially adolescent ones like Zeus. Mr Zeus will be working on his manners around humans and also his gorgeous little brother Zephyr the cat ... Yesterday we introduced a communication system and started to show Zeus what behaviours were more rewarding than chasing your brother. I cant wait to see what this team achieves!

19.01.2022 Can you actually imagine my face when I turned up to do a session and was greeted by Bobby the Rough Collie and little Bubbles her sister! I’ll be working with gorgeous Bubbles and her family to develop some better toilet training habits. ... In conjunction with this we will also be working on her confidence and making her as bomb proof as possible. This little muffin was so good during our session and showed some lovely confidence to barking dogs. I can’t wait to get more snuggles next time.

18.01.2022 Cats wearing hats made from their own hair https://www.facebook.com/416713085815190/posts/705184530301376/?extid=aBxkwlwqB5enVjsE&d=n

18.01.2022 , !! This amazing team have completed their private Puppy Development Training. These guys would have to be some of my most committed clients, driving over an hour to meet with me each week over 4 sessions. ... Rufus and his family have learnt a stack of awesome skills to help navigate through the world. His confidence is at an all time high as his critical period of development window begins to close. Well done guys! You have done a wonderful job so far and I cant wait to see what you achieve going forward. If youd like puppy school in the comfort of your own home and on your schedule, get in touch! Id love to help you.

16.01.2022 Yesterday they had me running at the at That Dog School. Awesome restrained recalls guys!

16.01.2022 : Okay I wont lie, Im a bit Pug obsessed and jump on any opportunity to work with these gorgeous little pooches. Im SUPER excited to be working with Moey and Doug and their amazing pet parents to help get the house hold baby ready!... Doug the Pug was rescued from a not so great situation and had a range of skin and health issues which we will be addressing with a diet change. These two have officially entered The Pet Girls weight loss boot camp and will be on the path to a healthier weight in no time. Lots of lightbulb moments during their session which I absolutely LOVE to see. I cant wait for their next session!

15.01.2022 If you are new to fresh food feeding and want some extra support for your journey, a nutrition consult may be a great way to settle your nerves. From $35.00 for a 30 minute phone consultation, it’s the perfect way to have your current feeding practices checked and advice given on where to improve by a qualified professional.... Comment below if you are interested and I’ll get in contact.

15.01.2022 !! Little Bruce and I caught up for a loose lead walking session where his pet parent Noah did such an awesome job teaching him the foundations. Working breeds can certainly be taught how to loose lead walk on a flat collar. It just takes patience, reinforcement for what we want and clear structure.... One important component of loose lead walking is establishing a set criteria and sticking to it. That criteria has to be reasonable and fair and something you enforce each time you set out on a walk. Super proud of this young team and cant wait to see more of them! Nice work guys!

14.01.2022 Crate training is one of those things you are either all for it, or you are totally against it. Unlike most pet parents, Ive been both. I didnt believe that dogs should be in crates until I had to crate train my dogs when I started to participate in dog sports. My oldest dog was 5 when she was crate trained and my youngest dog was crate trained as a 6 week old puppy. ... As a trainer, a huge part of my job is simply helping pet parents prepare their dog for the stresses of life. Whether that be going to the vet, overcoming fears with noises, or people etc and essentially helping them create a dog that will coexist in an easy manner with humans. . Crate training is often used in these circumstances: - At the vet after a surgery (desexing) - At the groomers - Recovery from injury - In the car for transportation - In an emergency (such as the bushfires) Most of these are already stressful situations. It makes a whole lot of sense not to have the stress of being in a crate for the first time compounded to the experience. Crate training can also be utilised in these areas of normal living: - Dog sports - Developing independence - House breaking - Managing multi dog households - In house dog fighting - Creating calm - A bed for sleeping time - Keeping your dog safe - Camping with your dog - Storm phobias - Developing impulse control - Helping with resource guarding issues Most people that have a crate trained dog will tell you that their dog LOVES the crate. I know that is the case for my own dogs. The reason this is, is because our dogs dont view the crate as a negative place, in fact is has . When I first started crate training I simply fed my dog their meal in the crate daily. Before long my dogs were running to the crate before dinner time in excitement. I have since built drive to and from the crate. So before you make a quick decision that crate training is not for you, consider what it could do for your dog and how instead of thinking its a cruel way to live with a dog, it could be in fact a useful tool. If youd like help crate training your dog, either long distance contact or locally, reach out! If you have a crate trained dog, post a photo below of your dog in their crate and how its helped you in your life:

13.01.2022 ? This morning I spent some time with these four beautiful Moodles, Nala, Belle, Simba and Marley, helping their pet parents get on top of their front door barking. Barking can be SUPER self reinforcing. Most dogs use barking as a way to create distance or to alert their owner.... FOR EXAMPLE: When the post man approaches the house to drop off mail, our dog barks. The postman low and behold, gets on with his day and drives away to the next house. Our dog believes it was THEIR barking they made them leave. Today we focused on teaching the dogs that they may bark to alert us, but they must also finish barking when we cue them to be quiet. We can then layer some other awesome behaviours to go with this too, such as place training which is super useful at the front door. The challenge with multiple dogs is that you need to separate them individually to teach them the skill that you want. And then later in the distraction of the other dogs. Multi dog households typically have a bit of chaos when there isnt structure or clarity, which results in the dogs feeding off each other. Out of this bunch, who do you think is the instigator? They all look super innocent I think!

12.01.2022 Such an awesome morning with our Junior Dogs and Preppy Puppies at That Dog School. Strangely dressed people is my favourite positive exposure topic. Head over to That Dog School to see our recent graduates.

11.01.2022 ! I had the pleasure of meeting Enzo and working with this big goof ball on his loose lead walking. We installed a marked word and started to familiarise Enzo to some basic lead manners. It wasnt long at all before Enzo was doing some lovely walking. ... As we progress our training we will add distractions of people and other dogs and different places. Loose lead walking doesnt have to be challenging. It can be as simple as teaching your dog what you want and adding value to that. , ! I cant wait to see this teams progress! Bensound.com

11.01.2022 During our last lesson we couldnt even leave the front yard to delve into loose lead walking and had to teach the foundations in the back yard. This was due to Martys over arousal with the world around him. This week we were able to get down the street! This is a combination of working out a solid communication system, lifestyle changes and an improvement in diet. ... Stay tuned! More Marty updates coming soon!!

10.01.2022 ? The demands we place on our dogs are pretty instense, especially our sport or working dogs. Sadly, a lot of dogs have unresolved injuries and imbalances that usually go undetected until some pretty big damage has been done. ... It is super important that we support our dogs weaknesses through strength and conditioning, massage and stretching. Both my Border Collies Yogi and Vixen both enjoy regular treatments from our amazing Canine Physiotherapist Mitch from Equine Canine Human Physiotherapy. We couldnt recommend Mitch enough! Check out Vixen receiving her most recent treatment. If your dog has a limp from time to time or you suspect a injury has occurred, touch base with your veterinarian and seek out a physiotherapy referral. Thanks for looking after our pack Mitch!

10.01.2022 Have you seen this Labrador? He was stolen from his Coomera home.

10.01.2022 Even though this huge teddy bear looks like a total hipster raging with confidence, he has a very different story to tell. Unfortunately during Georges critical period of development, he had a pretty stressful incident that has left him not feeling oh so great about the world around him.... Ill be working with George to build his confidence and help him navigate through life with a glass half full attitude. I cant wait to see his progression.

10.01.2022 ! You may remember that I was working with Rottweiler Zulu and her house bestie Meeka and preparing them both for the arrival of their new human sister. When I first met this family, we had in house fighting and resource guarding between Meeka and Zulu. Zulu also showed obsessive behaviours towards children. ... In order to create a safe environment for their new human baby, we needed to get on top of this immediately! Brooke, Zulu’s pet parent worked exceptionally hard to best prepare Zulu for what was about to come. We implemented some new boundaries, diet changes, crate training and slowly desensitized Zulu to baby life. I was so happy to receive this text update that little Aveah had arrived and Zulu was doing well! Well done Brooke on bringing this gorgeous girl into the world and working so hard to get to this point. She is absolutely beautiful!

08.01.2022 How I’m managing Yogi’s recovery journey:

07.01.2022 !! Ive been working with Jumanji to improve his recall and lead confidence. During our session we covered the foundations of a rock solid recall and how to start progressing some of his obedience on walks.... , .

07.01.2022 The face of a truly satisfied working dog after a morning of herding sheep. What have you got planned this weekend to your dog?

06.01.2022 ? This incredibly large egg is about 500g in weight and has a somewhat developed chick inside. Unfortunately it was damaged by its mother and did not have an opportunity to see this world (broken side face down to spare the gore) As a result it was going to be sent to the trash. ... We have a waste not attitude in our home which means that this amazing egg will provide food for the dogs. Can you guess what kind of egg this may be?

05.01.2022 !! For all the Alfie fans, today I had another follow up session and boy do I have good news!! I was originally called to assist Alfie get over his separation anxiety. He couldn’t even last 4 minutes without becoming stressed and digging his was out of the back yard. He would also vocalize this stress in the way of barking. ... Alfie can officially be left at home with no issues and no time cap!! How awesome is that!! His fear of shiny floors are starting to dissipate, with him even falling asleep on the tiles the other day. As a result of Alfie’s new found confidence, he is becoming an explorer when out and about. Today we worked on his recall and play game. Honestly could he be any happier! I’m so proud of this team! Well done Alfie and Penelope!!

05.01.2022 !! It’s been a couple of weeks since I last saw Thor and his family. The last visit we had I spent the majority of the session building Thor’s trust to simply be able to give him a treat and play some engagement games. I knew when I first met Thor that we had a huge journey ahead of us. Simple things, like living in a house with Thor and not have the house shut up like Fort Knox just to prevent him from scaring the neighbour...s was something most people take for granted. Thor’s family just want to be able to walk him and let him smell the roses. Unfortunately because of his past, he hasn’t been able to go on walks without his owner feeling terrified that he may have an altercation with another dog. Thor’s family have been working really hard! When I arrived he was in his crate, barked initially and settled immediately. They have had so much success with Thor being able to settle in crate when people come over. They have been able to leave the doors in the house open and Thor has been so much more relaxed around the house. He was even able to stand at the front door and watch a motorbike go past without reacting!! This is massive. I decided to rip the bandaid off and get Thor out on the street for the first time in a very very long time. Whilst we still need to work on his ability to relax and feel comfortable out walking, we got him and his pet parent Irene to the stage where he was able to walk nicely on the lead and Irene had effective control over him. Another massive achievement!! My goal is that he will be able to get out more and start smelling those roses! Still a long journey to go, but super proud of this team.

04.01.2022 Check out our awesome recent post at That Dog School about ...

04.01.2022 ... In the last 24 hours a NSW woman walking her dog on lead in an on lead shopping area. Another dog off lead rushed over, attacks the dog and another dog runs over and joins in. The ladies fingers were partially amputated in the attack and it is unclear if the dog attacked has been killed. The two attacking dogs have been seized. When this happens its a very important reminder what responsible pet ownership is about:... . . . . . My thoughts are with all involved. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHQigPv6RKc&feature=share

04.01.2022 : ’ Mr Toby has certainly let everyone in his street know that nobody gets through the front door without a shake down. Unfortunately, whilst Toby loves his human brothers and sisters, he is not such a fan of the other little humans in the neighborhood. This has resulted in people being a little bit frightened to come and visit.... I’ll be working with Toby’s family to help manage his door manners and build some confidence around children, especially those that are super excited. During our session we worked on setting some clear boundaries for Toby and focused on rewarding him for making better decisions. The result was a neighbour being able to knock at the door and not be bombarded by Toby. Our goal is to give Toby more incompatible behaviours which are then reinforced. This will change his behaviour pattern. Super excited to work with this family and I can’t wait to see the results!

03.01.2022 Miss Zulu is preparing for the arrival of a little human. During our session we worked on some bed boundaries and ensuring that Miss Zulu is clear about the rules in the home.... We also started loose lead walking foundations which will help us with Zulus reactivity towards other humans and dogs. She was definitely keen to work, especially with treats around. Well done Zulu!

03.01.2022 ? I visited little Daisys home to help her pet parents with some puppy essentials. This included: ... Little Daisy had soooo much fun that when I left, she cried for me! Do you have a new puppy on the way or just landed and want a bit of extra help making sure all you Ts are crossed and all you is are dotted? Give me a call on 0423158589 or send me a message.

02.01.2022 Such an amazing review by one of my recent Puppy Development Pack graduates! Thank you gorgeous Rüfüs Mandarin and Joey

02.01.2022 ... Nothing makes me happier than watching the journey unfold for puppies and be a part of their development. Its one of the many reasons why I love working with puppies so much. Here are some of the puppies I have been blessed to train as pups and again as they are older dogs. ... This has prompted a THEN and NOW thread. Post a photo of your dog as a puppy and then what they look like now

01.01.2022 One of my FAVOURITE independent pet stores located on the Sunshine Coast! Check out Peticular for both in store and online. I recently purchased 3 Ruffwear harnesses for my girls. They arrived in record time and the owner of the store was incredibly helpful and friendly. Ive purchased items from this shop a few times and have always been happy with the level of customer service Ive received!... Do you have any awesome independent pet stores youd like to share?

01.01.2022 ! When you are a Border Collie, life can be pretty stressful (those with BCs understand) Border Collies like things in order, which is why they do so well at herding and keeping all the sheepies in, well order. ... Some BCs struggle with the concept of not having control of their surroundings, which can result in anxiety and unwanted stress. Its important to teach our on dogs that they dont need to micromanage everything and everyone and that they can turn off. For Bailey, the thought of people moving around and being all unpredictable makes her uncomfortable. Today we worked on using the lead as a communication tool to help ease little Baileys mind. It helps her change her focus from micromanaging to seeking human reinforcement. Once we change this pattern we can then start getting her doing tasks that actually have a relaxing effect. Like being on a bed. Awesome effort today Bailey! You and your pet parents smashed it and are one step closer to developing a calmer, confident more relaxed you
