25.01.2022 Pudding, Ian! Pudding!
23.01.2022 Have a read guys. :)
22.01.2022 Brother Jenkins Taste - 8.5 Service - 10 Atmosphere -9.5... Price - $4 Well well well. Hello there you burley bean burners. I have been waiting not so patiently for my "brother from another mother" Ian to get back from yet another turtle touching tour in the Torres Straits to review this stella establishment. Now don't take this lightly... but I think I have found my new favorite brother with "Brother Jenkins". Let me tell you a review on my actual two younger brothers would not score so highly and there wasn't a single "Wet Willy" or "Nipple Cripple" given the whole time we were here. Just peaceful brotherly bliss, the way it should be. Like in the movies where the brothers actually help each other out and not stealing your food and calling you names like Drew Poo! I hate that name! We aren't going to lie guys the reviewing life can be a lonely arduous life with little to no reward, full of burnt lips and sleepless days. But we strive to rise above adversity and do it together just for you... And also because we are now fully addicted to caffeine and your few and far between Facebook likes. Please can we have some likes? This place goes above and beyond any regular boring old coffee shop and is more like a cool retro hangout full of friendly faces where you can even bring in and play your own records or choose from their in house salubrious selection. They obviously are a bit behind the times and haven't heard that CD's are quite big these days. For instance the monumental hit album "Growing Down" by local heroes "Drewboy and The Sax Addicts" is available on CD or such digital faces like iTunes and Spotify. Check it out if you don't believe me. If you don't believe us Refer to above photo for said friendly face. (Matty). And yes his glasses are wooden because without them he "wooden" see anything. See what I did there... we are just too funny! Also if anybody is actually still reading this the coffee was exquisite and the food was actually one of the best breakfasts we have ever ingested... except that time we partied all night and all We had to eat for breaky was a sip of water and a look around. Until next time... sip easy!
21.01.2022 Coffee Shop - Blackbird Coffees tasted - Flat white, cappuccino Taste - 9.5/10 Service - 9/10... Atmosphere - 8.5/10 Price - $5 mug Greetings bean brigade, Today we "flew" in to blackbird and I feel we must be truthful here... This is actually our 3rd attempt at reviewing this place. In not sure if we keep getting distracted or we just wanted the excuse to come back and it saddens me a bit to finally be actually putting pen to paper or in this case thumbs to screen and ending this elusive mission. We heard on the bean-vine (see what I did there) that this place has won some kind of awards or something like that... We don't know. As some of you detectives may have picked up along our epic nonsensical reviewing journey we don't actually know that much about coffee or coffee shops.. Or anything else for that matter. But what we do know is this cup of warm liquid makes us feel real nice. And the caliber of female clientele and foot traffic walking past the huge glass windows also makes us feel real nice in a slightly different way. Pause for bathroom break. Ok I'm back, yes I washed my hands. The coffee is strong in this one and had us "singing and chirping" all morning. You could also kill two birds with one stone, hypothetically speaking, and "peck" at some of their amazing carrot cake while you sip away. The rich aroma and sumptuous reputation obviously attracts some A grade Celebrities as well. We were lucky enough to see Mr Miyagi from Karate Kid 1,2 and 3. See below for photo. So as per usual this coffee shop has some cool artwork on the walls to buy and funky furniture made out of recycled pallets. We Love it. Save the trees and all that bullshit. Go Captain Planet! The decor theme seems to be based around birds for no apparent reason... We just can't put our beaks on it. Right then we're off to poo on some car bonnets. Sip easy Cairns.
17.01.2022 Mi Piace Espresso Bar Taste - 8 Service - 9 Atmosphere -7... Price - $4 Good morning and what a fantabulous day to be alive our beautiful Bean Bangers! It's Thursday! It's sunny! Qld won the state of origin last night! Ian has a hangover that David Hasstlehoff would be proud of and it's even bloody bin day! What more could you ask for! We are literally an espresso martini and a Swedish beach volleyball team away from heavenly bliss. We were tipped off about this fresh new coffee dwelling only yesterday and here we are already! How's that for prompt service! We revolve our extremely busy and super important selfless lives around the soul purpose of bringing you insurmountable joy, priceless information and ageless, unparalleled humor. For you lazy peasants that can't be bothered googling what "Mi Piace" means like we had to... it is Italian for "I like it" and to that we say Mi Piace Molto... "I like it a lot". This place is the tits. The bees knees. The cats pajamas. The badgers nadgers. The ducks dick. The wombats Willy. The... well you get the idea. It's pretty damn good. For a place that only opened 7 weeks ago there seems to be a plethora of ecstatic customers trafficking in and out with smiles on their dials and we were certainly no exception! The only thing we would deduct points for would be the soothing sounds of the Sheridan street rush hour traffic. But in saying that you also get a lovely view of Munroe Park and the odd backpacker in last nights makeup presumably doing the walk of shame so it evens up. Oh and the Food and coffee were tip top. Sorseggiare facilmente (Sip Easy)
16.01.2022 So I found out my drummer Gus is scared of Cassowaries this weekend... Hahaha This should go viral!
16.01.2022 Coffee Shop - Target Cafe Coffees tasted - Flat white, cappuccino Taste - 5/10 Service - 8.5/10... Atmosphere - 4/10 Price - $4.30 Ok fans do we have a special review for you today... Did you know... That Target shops now have cafes inside them... Also they are now dabbling in T-shirt printing... So we did the only reasonable thing any expert reviewers such as ourselves would do and combined these two facts previously unbeknown to us and printed Ian and Drew coffee review shirts (which are on sale now), put on said shirts and honed in to our zen like reviewing zone and set our coffee tasting targets on Target! Despite the Allure of fancy green swivel chairs the new cafe failed to impress and felt more like a School tuck shop. The coffees missed the target immensely and had a worse result than the late Charlie Sheen at the AIDS clinic. I ordered a ham and cheese toastie... But I'm pretty sure they had just cut a picture of a slice of ham out of a magazine and combined that with some microscopic cheese flavored mist that was sprayed on to some bread and heated up. Having said all that the T-shirts certainly hit the bullseye and we think that everybody at some point in their life should get a shirt with their own face on it.... Or ours! ;) We probably wouldn't recommend coming in here for a coffee that tastes like instant coffee especially during the Christmas rush period like we made the mistake of doing unless you are thinking about having children and want your mind changed... Immediately! The service however was bang on and very friendly and efficient even though it was absolute chaos. We would also like to submit a proposal to Guinness world records for the tallest barrister in the world working here... Seriously this dude is a human skyscraper. If there's any basketball scouts out there looking for somebody who can slam dunk a ball without his feet leaving the ground then the horrible coffee might be worth it. Sip easy Cairns.
14.01.2022 Little Loco Cafe' Kitchen Taste 8/10 Service 9/10 Atmosphere 7.5/10... Price $4 Hola ladies and genitalmen... have you missed us? We have missed you! God we have missed you! We miss you ike the Mexicans miss having Barack Obama as President. But i guess they should build a wall and get over it.... hey? See what we did there? Huh? Anyways moving on... Who you tryin to get crazy with ese dont you know i'm loco? (insert spansish accent here) We need to be honest with you guys... this is not our first attempted review in the last few weeks, but we have found ourselves quite distracted... befuddled even. But we are 73% sure we will make it through this review. Although this coffee castle is located directly on the migration path between Gilligans and the esplanade and the aluring visual delicacies here has already blown out our tight reviewing schedule and we have currently been sitting here for 48 hours and i haven't seen Ian blink for that long i'm worried his eyes may crust over and blow away in the toasty North Qld breeze. But such is the torment and hardships of the reviewing game we galantly subject ourselves to for you and you only. We were reasonably impressed with the spurious wall garden and assorted conterfeit plants and the coffee ticked more boxes than Ellen Degenerate (yes i meant to spell it like that). Sip easy coffee junkies.
13.01.2022 Coffee Shop - Refuge Coffees tasted - Flat white, cappuccino Taste - 9/10 Service - 9/10... Atmosphere - 9/10 Price - $4 Talk about a Shop with the lot guys never have we been so spoilt for a variety of choice in the one establishment. You could seriously walk in this shop looking like Miley Cirus coming off a 3 week bender and walk out looking fresh as the prince from Bel air. Why Just today I bought a lovely new locally made shirt, had a delicious coffee and got my already short hair cut even shorter leaving me looking like one of the young boys off the movie Major Pain... Damn, I need to watch that movie again! What a classic. They seriously don't make them like they used to! The last haircut I got from a multifunctional shop was from a topless barmaid in Brisbane... Needless to say this haircut was far superior.... However the view was not. Ian just getting back from 3 months at sea relentlessly chasing mermen obviously needed the haircut far more than I did but had one booked prior leaving me to take the snip alone and afraid. The same way I watch scary movies. Very cool vibe inside the shop with a DJ booth and you get even give Haydon a hiding on XBox while you drink your coffee. The coffee was as smooth and creamy as they come the only regret we had was not getting a double. There is even complimentary banana lollies in a jar on your way out... Not the same bananas you might find getting passed around at the Woolshed on a Saturday night but they are still quite tasty. Sip easy Cairns.
12.01.2022 Vines at Limberlost (Freshwater) Taste - 6.5 Service - 8.5 Atmosphere - 9.1... Price - $4 Good day beano's. How's ya beans.... (see what I did there)... A big "Fresh" Ian and Drew welcome back to us and therefor you as well. Today we ventured further than any coffee reviewer has ever gone before... except that time we accidentally walked to Kuranda for a review. God damn that still grinds my beans! Actually has anybody seen that old guy with the mole on his face that stitched us up and told us it was only a short walk from Stoney creek? We have unfinished business! We will find you moleface! This "fresh" review is one of our "freshest" so far! Freshwater has really planted a seed by combining a coffee shop/cafe with their amazing nursery! We may have gotten ourselves slightly "limberlost" on our way to Limberlost but boy was it worth it. Ian and myself don't usually delve into the sweets side of things being the health obsessed caffeine athletes we are.... and today is certainly no exception. Weaker-willed individuals may have folded and gorged themselves on the illustrious spread of chocolate cakes they had on offer, but not us! We decided to stick to our #cleaneating #fitspo #organic #insertlatestbullshithashtaghere and ordered a very nutritious activated apple and cinnamon muffin and wholesome carrot and activated almond cake, sticking to the good old fruit and veggies just like mum said. We felt a bit like George of the jungle with the venue having separate tables hidden amidst the green wash of plants, vines and flowers which are all available to buy if they you're in to that stuff. We aren't much of the green thumbs ourselves... a different finger-shaped body part of Ian's went a tinge green once but that's another story for another time. We did notice a few avid dreadlocked gardeners asking about the best way to grow tomatoes in their ceiling cavities. It's heartwarming to see the younger generation taking such a keen interest in the wilting art that is gardening. The coffee was ok too. Sip easy and garden even easier Cairns. Stay fresh.
11.01.2022 When somebody parks in your driveway..... Hope they got a laugh out of it! Haha
08.01.2022 The Coffee Club Taste 4.5/10 Service 6.5 Atmosphere 5... Price $4.10 Good afternoon to you beautiful Bean Fiends. The forthcoming review of Coffee Club has been in the making for quite some time now. But I feel that I must be completely honest with you here and openly admit that I do hold some hostility and negative bias towards these so called "clubs" due to a few bad personal experiences in the past. In my humblest of opinions these over priced and under delivering franchises rely on people not being creative enough to attempt to meet their friends at an actual cafe... or simply just putting shops where you basically have no other option. Like the airport. But regardless of the solid facts I will endeavor to push that emotional baggage to the side to deliver you a stella review as close to the truth as my begrudged and slightly soured soul can muster. One thing that's working in their favor though is my expectations are about as low as Dennis Ferguson's chances of winning Australian or the year. Ok now finally to the review.... the shop certainly does has a prime location right on the esplanade with plenty of visual treats both foreign and domestic. A solid stream of foot traffic ensures all tastes to be satisfied. No matter how fussy you are. The coffee on the other hand... is about as appealing as a fart in a crowded elevator but probably delivers slightly lest taste. It wasn't a baaaaaaad coffee. It just wasn't a gooooood coffee. Know wha I'm sayin? They could use some funky tunes in there to build a bit more atmosphere but I must say the service was quite nice. In conclusion our totally unprofessional and probably disregarded opinion would be to not becoming a member of this club... So my response to the famous Coffee Club slogan "Where will we meet?" Is "Somewhere else". So I am terribly sorry for our first ever slightly negative review. That's not what we are about here at IADCR but we felt Coffee Club has had this coming for a while and could do with a toe in the back crevice. Lift your game and lower your prices CC. Feel free to suggest new places for us to review too guys as we are obviously running low on ideas here. Until next time bean grinders. Sip easy.
06.01.2022 CHCCAG VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR!!! I am absolutely blown away to receive this award for my suicide prevention work! There are so many others out there that do so m...uch more than i do and deserve this more than me but i am stoked and feeling very humbled by it! Thank you so much Cairns CCAG and also to Dr Edward Koch Foundation for letting me be involved with the school program you put together. So here is a shout out to all the volunteers out there that didn't get 1 of these. You guys are legends!!! See more
05.01.2022 The chamber room Taste - 8.5 Service - 9 Atmosphere - 8.5... Price - $4 What can we say like any good chamber this place was very hard to leave just ask Josef Fritzl from Austria. Might be a bit more family friendly here though... Today I found out I'd been lied to my whole childhood and that my favorite meal "Dippy Doodles" is actually called little soldiers. Devastated as expected after a heavy life changing blow like this the only thing that made me feel better about my freshly shattered world was how good these so called "little soldiers" tasted! My god! Do your tastebuds a Favour and dip your doodle here. This was the first we had heard of this lovely hidden gem as it's hidden away like most chambers but it's well worth the treasure hunt! Some big news for us in the reviewing world that you might not know... we have recently been invited to review tea with the queen... however I have politely declined because I'm a coffee man through and through and I'm not gay. However I wish Ian and the queen a lovely time with their tea-bagging. Back to our job here... and it is a job! A very hard, unrewarding and expensive job that we selflessly take on our own backs for the benefit and safety of the cairns coffee community otherwise know as the C.C.C. The coffee was bang on too. We enjoyed it! But holy hell those dippy doodles!!!! Until next time bean grinders. Sip easy.
05.01.2022 On average in Australia per year... 0.6 people are eaten by a croc and 1.1 people are eaten by sharks. And what happens... Kill the crocs! Kill the sharks! Newspaper headlines! Television stories! Council support! Community support! "Keep our people safe"!!! But how many beautiful lives are taken by mental illness EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! In Cairns alone I know of 3 in the last 2 months under the age of 30! And you wont hear anything about that on the news! Just take that in for ...a second..... Isn't that fucking ridiculous? Shouldn't we ALL be getting involved? This is exactly why I have started a Suicide Prevention Charity called "KICK ON" that will be aimed at getting our community to take some action and give people the tools they need to help their peers as well as linking up with all the amazing services already available. It will be a collaboration of very unique projects and campaigns aimed at high risk demographics as well as the everyday person, like Fly in Fly out camps, Aboriginal and torres strait islander youth, youth unemployment and skills training, PTSD sufferers, social media, public events but the main thing will be getting some community spirit back! Looking out for your mates. Looking out for strangers even! Bridging the enormous disconnect that has grown in us from things like social media! KICK ON is already so broad and powerful and going to help so many different people and also give people the chance and inspiration to help others! We already have an amazing team of highly skilled individuals from all different backgrounds and will be linking with many local health based businesses as well to really start a chain reaction on a ground level! So get excited! Our very first fundraiser to help out with some startup costs will be at The Jack on Australia Day (Fri Jan 26). And We would love to see you all there to have a great time while also supporting... well YOURSELVES really! :-) See more
04.01.2022 That's right guys!!! Haha
03.01.2022 We need your help! :)
02.01.2022 What grinds my beans! Hello there Facebook fiends, it's been a while since my last post and I apologize tremendously but there has truly been a lot going on with my music and me getting my tonsils chopped out and of course Ian has left me to fulfill his life long dream of joining the circus and apparently the bearded lady gig pays better than coffee reviewing so I'm on my lonesome. Ok so you know what really grinds my beans?... Those pesky Airport pickup zone parking nazis! ...That's right those power tripping drones in the flouresant vest that didn't pay attention during their business maths class or had mothers that thought it was cool to do meth while they were pregnant or whatever. Now I'm not ragging all of them. No way! That's not me. I'm a markedly nice person most of the time and pride myself on my ambition to not judge anybody, especially by their job title or looks... But if you rudely tell me to drive around the block when the passengers I'm here to collect have literally just text we saying they are on their way out when there isn't even cars waiting behind me to get a spot I'm probably going to get the shits and have a sook on my Facebook page. I truly believe in any job you have the ability and opportunity to come across as being a nice caring human being and make somebody's day a little better. Or you can be like Shitsy McGee this morning and do your best to upset the world and as karma will have it you will probably end up getting hit by a falling meteor that turns out to be a frozen hunk of shit from a NASA space shuttle or something. I hope with all my heart that one day some random configuration of incidents take place that subsequently end up with you somehow getting locked in a Crossfit convention with 500 plus overly enthusiastic people in tight clothes eating kale and spreading the "good word". Until the next thing that annoys me enough to write about... Sip easy!
