24.01.2022 A fresh coat of paint can give new life to your old frames.

22.01.2022 This particular client insisted on a clear varnish finish for her doors. Unfortunately I did not think to take a before photo , but it was too weathered for a varnish finish. Once the original coat has broken down enough, a simple clear re-coat will not look good. The varnish will soak into the door in bare patches but will sit on the surface where the varnish is still intact. Usually your only option in this case is to fully strip the door and start again. This can be a full days work for one door. As another cheaper option I suggested a very dark tinted varnish " Japan Black". She was very happy with the end result.

18.01.2022 This Bourne Painting client wanted a new look in their kitchen, but they were not keen on the thousands of dollars replacing the bench top would cost. Instead we painted the top with products from the Dulux Renovate range. It took a coat of primer, three coats of white and two coats of clear. Each coat needed a day to dry. It still came to around the quarter of the cost for replacing the bench and the customer was very happy with the finish. It was fun to work on the Castle building in Mtlawley too. I can add it to my list of iconic buildings that I have worked on in Perth.

10.01.2022 Once was old , is now new :) I kept my price low on this one , because I knew they were a non profit company.

10.01.2022 I have been lucky in my career, to get some good experience with different products and decorative effects. This effect was created with Bauwerk paints , it is kind of an eco friendly lime wash. It gives the walls a subtle textured look. I got to use the product while working for Bourne painting, at the Ronnie Nights bar in Fremantle.

10.01.2022 Notice how a change from oiled timber, to painted white, can open up a space and take the focus away from the timber ? Your eye will be drawn more to the garden and pool area, less to the the timber windows and doors.

07.01.2022 I was really looking forward to painting this hallway. Like many high traffic areas, it had started to look a little weathered. I also had a good feeling about the colour changes. The main colour is a shade lighter than it was and I think the new feature colour suited the space better than the old one.

07.01.2022 These art collecting clients had a very specific vision for their house . I was a bit sceptical when I saw how bright the colours were, but I think when it is framed by the white, the colours work for this space.

06.01.2022 Using a duster brush to apply a secret formula to a display oven in Bread In Common , Fremantle. Working for Bourne Painting can often be interesting.

03.01.2022 Have you ever wondered why painters are always insisting that new surfaces are sealed or undercoated ? Look what happened to this paint when the client took some stickers off the wall. Im pretty sure these plaster walls were never sealed, so the paint has not adhered to the walls properly. This is why I support regulation of our industry.

02.01.2022 Restoration is one of the favourite parts of my job. There is great satisfaction to be found in taking something old and making it new again. This door is from a heritage era building in Fremantle. The frame was chemically stripped already. The door was prepared with Builder Bog, sandpaper , elbow grease , patience and a water based undercoat . The client requested products that would cause minimal environmental impact, so water based paints were used. Finished off with a high gloss Aqua enamel.

01.01.2022 I was lucky enough to be a Master Painters apprentice. Through their apprenticeship program, I gained a wide range of experience and learned to take great pride in my work. I was a two time finalist for the MPA apprentice of the year, and although not officially , I was informed by the judges that I was runner up for the MPA AAA award. It is partly because of these reasons that I am a member of the Master Painters and Decorators Association today.
