25.01.2022 COASTAL EROSION Today The Nationals WA announced a new policy to address coastal erosion in regional WA. A report published by the State Government identifies 12 regional locations that need investment within the next five years - failure to do so will result in significant damage to the environment, public and private infrastructure. Who pays for this work has always been a source of contention - the problem gets handballed between local, state and federal government and pr...ivate landowners. We need a co-ordinated effort from all stakeholders, and a commitment of dollars to start urgent works. This afternoon I was joined by Mia Davies MLA, Shane Love MLA - The Member for Moore and Hon Martin Aldridge MP and candidate for the Agricultural Region #NatashaColliver at Drummonds Cove, along with representatives from the Drummonds Cove Progress Association for the announcement that The Nationals WA would commit $50m over five years to address the twelve most urgent sites on the coastal erosion hotspot list in regional WA, including Drummond Cove and Sunset Beach To read the policy see below #RegionalalWAys #TheNationalsWA #coastalerosion #environment
25.01.2022 ONAM 2020 Barb and I would like to say happy Onam 2020 to all Geraldton residents from Kerala, India
23.01.2022 Seniors Week 2020 As part of Seniors week, I would like to acknowledge the participation of seniors in our community. Unfortunately, due to COVID, most senior week activities have been cancelled this year. This includes the seniors morning tea that I have sponsored for the last 12 years. It’s an event that I’m always happy to support and it’s a small gesture to help show my appreciation for all the seniors in Geraldton.... A few members who usually attend have already told me they will miss it this year, but hopefully things will be back to normal in Seniors Week 2021 and you can look forward to more cake and tea then!

14.01.2022 GERALDTON NEEDS MORE AIR SERVICES Like many in the community, I am frustrated that air services have been increased across the State, with Rex increasing flights by seventy per cent between Albany and Perth, and sixty per cent between Perth and Esperance, yet Geraldton has remained on the side lines, with only four flights to the city per week. Its time the Government start to make Geraldton a priority by increasing their discussions with the airlines and advocating for more... flights to and from the city. 11.01.2022 LABOR FOLLOWS IN NATIONALS WAKE WITH HIGH SPEED JETTIES Having led calls for expenditure of $3m towards the construction of several jetties to accommodate high speed vessels six weeks ago, Im delighted Labor have decided to follow The Nationals WA lead. While jetties at the Esplanade and the Marina will certainly support tourism at the Abrolhos Islands, it is just one element in a wider tourism picture for the Mid West, and the drip-feed of information is frustrating for ...tourism operators and small businesses in Geraldton. There hasnt been any marked progress at the Abrolhos Islands since Labors announcement back in 2018, so I have to question how genuine Labors commitment to Midwest tourism truly is.
11.01.2022 BROLOS FRESH I was lucky enough to be given a tour of Brolos Fresh before they opened this year to hear about the Geraldton Fishermens Co-operative latest project, providing fresh seafood to #Geraldton seafood consumers. Visit the Geraldton Fishermans Wharf as a boat comes in to unload its catch, watch fish being filleted and buy them within minutes along with live lobsters - The store is based at 70 Connell Road and is open from 10am -3pm... Thanks for everyone at Brolos Fresh for doing a fantastic job! Check out this video to see whats involved before it gets to the shop

09.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK In celebration of NAIDOC week 2020 I thought I would share with you all I speech that I gave in Parliament some time back in relation to the changes to the State Constitution to recognise Aboriginal people. I delivered the first part of my speech in Wajarri, which is the only time Wajarri has ever been spoken in a Parliament anywhere in the world, I think. I worked with Godfrey Simpson and Edie Maher of the BundiyarraIrra Wangga Language Centre in Geraldton who translated my speech into Wajarri for me and they taught me how to pronounce it. #NAIDOCWeek2020 #NAIDOC2020
07.01.2022 GERALDTON BYPASS SURVEY RESULTS Thank you to those who participated in my #Geraldton Bypass- South survey. There was a positive response confirming the Brand Highway/ Rudds Gully/ Narngulu route should be considered. I have written to the Transport Minister to express your valued thoughts and concerns. ... As your local Nationals MP I am committed to delivering the best result for our community and will continue to fight for this route to be considered by Government. 07.01.2022 Ive spent the morning visiting organisations in #Geraldton with my parliamentary colleagues Hon Mia Davies MLA and Hon Martin Aldridge MP. We visited the Geraldton Universities Centre - GUC, hosted by Director Natalie Nelmes who showed us around and provided a great insight into their work at the GCU. It was also a pleasure to be joined by Natasha Colliver, WA Nationals Candidate for the Ag Region. We also visited Ocean Centre Hotel Geraldton where we caught up with owner a...nd operator Bob Ramage to discuss how his business had been going over the last few months. 06.01.2022 LONG TAN DAY Also known as Long Tan Day, Vietnam Veterans Day falls on 18 August each year. The Vietnam War was Australias longest military engagement of the 20th century. Almost 60,000 Australians fought in the war and more than 500 lost their lives. Originally known as Long Tan Day, Vietnam Veterans Day is commemorated on 18 August every year.... This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan. Today we pause to reflect on the service and sacrifice of all men and women who served in the Vietnam War and to thank those who are serving today. #WeRememberThemAll #LestWeForget

06.01.2022 CBD REVITALISATION Thanks to the Federal Government for providing the City of Greater Geraldton with a $1.3m grant to assist a community-led recovery from COVID-19. The funding will go towards a major upgrade to the entrance into our CBD, improving the Cathedral Avenue streetscape from Sanford Street to Foreshore Drive. The plan will include a significant number of street trees to create a more shaded and comfortable pedestrian zone and improved streetscape. : Vision of the Cathedral Avenue upgrade from the 3D-CBD Revitalisation fly through video

We also had the opportunity to speak with staff and students at Central Regional TAFE, and toured the Museum of Geraldton. The ...hardworking and dedicated staff who operate these fantastic organisations ensure that Geraldton remains a great place to live, work and raise a family. 05.01.2022 NATS TO COMMIT TO TACKLING COASTAL EROSION IN GERALDTON Last week my parliamentary colleagues Hon Mia Davies MLA, Shane Love MLA - The Member for Moore, Hon Martin Aldridge MP and I announced that if elected to Government next year, The WA Nationals will commit $50million of Royalties for Regions funding over five years to fund programs and initiatives to restore and repair coastal erosion hotspots in regional Western Australia, including Drummonds Cove and Sunset Beach. Gera...ldton residents cannot afford to have their homes destroyed by coastal inundation, nor should residents and businesses have to cope with the effects of damage to crucial local and state government infrastructure when it can be prevented by state government intervention. Our policy will direct much-needed funding and attention to help management authorities preserve natural assets and protect private and public infrastructure at these locations. Please email your thoughts on this policy to [email protected] or contact me on 99641640. All feedback is highly appreciated and will go towards future policy development in this area. #regionalalWAys #countryMP #PuttingGeraldtonFirst The Nationals WA
05.01.2022 Thank you all for your hard work and commitment in collecting signatures for the bypass petition and raising awareness of the issue in our community. I presented the petition in Parliament yesterday so I’m hoping the Minister will recognise this is an issue she can’t ignore and will come to Walkaway to meet with you face-to-face. You collected 1,809 signatures in just two weeks Keep up the great work and together we will ensure the Government thoroughly consider alternative routes for the bypass. 04.01.2022 RECYCLING IN GERALDTON I visited Return-It WA Container Refund Point at 8 Bradford Street Wonthella this weekend to drop off some bottles I’ve been collecting over the last few months. It was all very quick and easy and would recommend giving it a go if you haven’t been yet. I also stopped off at Jack’s shed in the Aquarena carpark to drop off a heap of newspapers for recycling. The newspapers are recycled into things such as soil stabilisation, insulation and sound pro...ofing materials. 04.01.2022 QANTAS FAREWELL On July 22nd this year, Qantas fare-welled their last 747 - a part of their fleet for 49 years. The 747 changed the world a bit by making travel much cheaper. It was a remarkable plane in many ways - safe and reliable. Farewell old friend.
04.01.2022 BLOOD DONATION I had a spare couple of hours in Perth the other day and went and did a plasma donation. The machine is their brand new model. It works slightly differently.
04.01.2022 NATIONAL ROAD SAFETY WEEK 2020 Every year, approximately 168 people are killed, and another 1,513 are seriously injured on Western Australian roads. These numbers are growing every year but are preventable if we choose to drive safely. This week and every week drive safe to keep your family and others safe on our roads.
03.01.2022 CLONTARF FOUNDATION On Thursday the two #Geraldton Academies Champion Bay and Geraldton Academy came together with around 70 boys to hold a super training day. At half time, local police officers volunteered their time to speak with the students.... Following the game, I presented a Clontarf Spirit Award to a junior and senior student from each academy. It seems as though both the students and the local police had a great time! I enjoyed the afternoon too! Well done to the Clontarf Foundation for organising the event. Thanks for everything you do.

03.01.2022 HOUSING CONCERNS NEED FASTER SOLUTIONS With 22 social houses in Geraldton earmarked for maintenance under the Midwest Recovery Plan, I would have expected works to have already started on at least one of these properties, but there are no scheduled works set to date. With a long wait for public housing, less emergency and crisis accommodation due to the closure of Cameliers and the current low rental vacancy rate, we need these houses fixed up ASAP to prevent hom...elessness becoming more prevalent. I will continue to urge the State Government to start the works on the 22 Geraldton properties because you deserve better. 03.01.2022 FUEL CARD BOOST PROMISED BY NATS Weve committed to boosting the Country Age Pension Fuel Card if returned to Government in March 2021! Card values would be lifted from $575 to $600 from next July to help eligible pensioners living in regional WA. We will also return the card value to annual CPI increases which was removed by the current Labor government. Its only fair - pensioners in Perth have access to public transport to stay connected and mobile ... but not in regiona...l WA. Thats why we created the Country Aged Pension Fuel Card! Read statement here https://www.nationalswa.com/the-nationals-wa-will-give-cou/ #regionalalWAys #RoyaltiesforRegions #countryMP #fuelcard #TheNationalsWA
02.01.2022 BENDIGO BANK GRANTS PRESENTATION NIGHT Congratulations to all the recipients who received a Bendigo Bank Grant earlier this week! Geraldton Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank do a fantastic job supporting the community, making funding available to not-for-profit organisations for small projects. Such organisations are the lifeblood of Geraldton and I extend my thanks to the bank on behalf of local residents for continuing to provide so much support.... I was the first customer to walk into our community bank over 10 years ago. Since that time they have continued to exceed expectations year on year and I look forward to all the work they will continue to do for the Geraldton community over the next decade!
