18.01.2022 One last big thanks to Mark Roberts and Rochford Street Review for this final video in the series they've been featuring. "Canine" was filmed mostly around the Adelaide CBD and Thebarton including the Wheatsheaf Hotel, taking the close-to-ground, monochromatic night vision point of view of a dog. The music is strongly influenced by the riffs of Howlin' Wolf, arguably the greatest of the Chicago Blues singers - certainly my fave. For those too young or not in Australia, Johnnie O'Keefe was a hugely popular and occasionally controversial local rock-n-roller in the 60's. This piece is a lot of fun to perform live with the backing track!
17.01.2022 Around the anniversary of David Bowie's birth/death days, it seems appropriate to post again one of my favourite video poems, "blue moon", originally written fo...r a David Bowie tribute gig curated by Kerryn Tredrea and Paroxysm Press here in Adelaide. The text was inspired by David Bowie's "Space Oddity", Arthur C Clarke & Stanley Kubrick's "2001 - A Space Odyssey" , and NASA's Pioneer 10 & 11 Space Probes to the moons of Jupiter and Saturn and beyond... The music is my reharmonisation of part of "Space Oddity". The main video sequence is animated from about one hundred single images taken around the Adelaide CBD and some suburban beaches that were combined into a single massive sequence file. The moon at the end is from an eclipse I videoed from our garden.
16.01.2022 Now open on-line! "1.5 degrees International Exhibition" at the Gallery for Sustainable Art Berlin. There is a tour of exhibition by curator Tom Albrecht (in Ge...rman) and links to all the works from the exhibiting artists (including my video "floodtide"). The exhibition is really amazing - so much fine work and installed in an excellent space. Too bad it can't physically open right now. It will take about an hour to see it all - time well spent... :)
04.01.2022 Given the changes on FB in Australia today, it seems sort of appropriate to post a video I made last year called "Warranty & Conditions of Use". The text is built up from samples of warranty conditions for a sailboard, a video camera, a kitchen appliance and an audio amplifier. :)
02.01.2022 Good news today! Two of my videos have been selected for the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival in Wales showing during May: "The Ferrovores" which is about a future ...life-form dependent on iron for survival; and "after-image" which considers the lives around us that we may or may not see... Most of "The Ferrovores" was filmed in the Flinders Ranges, while "after-image" was filmed around Port Adelaide, the Adelaide CBD, and Belair.
