For those who hadn't seen the attached Front page and page 3 pieces in the Gold Coast Sun recently, in a musica...l tragedy, the Gold Coast has lost multi-award-winning Buskers by the Creek, the biggest busking event in Australia. With the Gold Coast's Music Action Plan 2021 designed to expand music on the Gold Coast, how they could allow Buskers to go to the Sunshine Coast is beyond me. Youth Music Venture musicians have played there every one of its 6 years, with as many as 10 playing at any one event, solos, duos and bands a great launching pad and confidence booster, for all of them. Apart from the stepping stone it has provided for our young YMV musicians, Tones and I, now an international artist, was Buskers by the Creek 2018 Busker of the Year! GC SUN no more! And now, a second tragedy as of yesterday the Gold Coast Sun, 50 years old, is no more! 12.01.2022 Inspirational Australian Keith Payne VC! What a great honour it was to meet an Australian legend at the Korean War Day service at the Ipswich RSL Keith Payn...e VC, OAM, AM. After fighting in the Korean War, he then fought in Vietnam where he received his VC and also the Distinguished Service Cross and Silver Stars from the US and Medal of Gallantry from South Vietnam an amazing Australian! For some time now I have been pushing to get a program in place that may help with our returned Veterans’ mental health/PTSD issues and tragic suicides. 11.01.2022 INDIVIDUAL MENTAL STRENGTH CAN BE VERY POWERFUL! COLLECTIVE MENTAL STRENGTH IS UNSTOPPABLE! Hi everyone, With the Christmas and New Year break, been a while since I posted my inspirational quotes but today I would like to share some inspiration from our son Ryan on two counts!... CONQUERING MOUNT KILIMANJARO! A couple of years ago, while raising funds for an African village, Ryan and 8 of his mates, guys and girls, tackled Mount Kilimanjaro. While there, they teamed up with another group of nine climbers. Now a Google search shows that on average, between 45% and 65% of climbers don't make it to the top. This group of 18 pushed and encouraged each other constantly, building their belief structure, with a lot of humour injected. The staggering result? THEY ALL MADE IT TO THE TOP 100% SUCCESS how is that for collective mental strength! Even the Sherpas found it hard to believe! What an inspiration! THE TOUGHEST ROW/ENDURANCE EVENT ON THE PLANET? The story is contained in the two newspaper articles attached, but a brief summary:- 35 crews, fours (like Ryan and his three mates), trios, doubles and some solos, set out on December 12, to row 5000 kms across the Atlantic, braving massive seas on their journey! Rowing two hours on, two hours off, 24 hours a day, for over five weeks! Ryan and his mates are the only Australian crew! They are coming second incredible, just four "ordinary" blokes rowing against crews we are told are half military, with some SAS and ex-Olympians! And their goal is raising $250,000 for Black Dog Institute for mental health! How inspirational and another great example of collective mental strength! As most of you would have seen, News Corp has canned over 100 regional publications around the country, includi...ng the Tweed Daily News (100 years) and all Gold Coast Sun editions (50 years) . The editor of both publications Bob Anthony has been a huge friend to YMV, beginning with a full front-page IN 2009, the year before our first program, attached here! Senior Constable Kurt Foessel has been with me/us for the entire journey and my original head mentor Mick Hadley, the rock icon from Brisbane pictured on my left, sadly passed away from a brain tumour, not all that long after moving here to the Gold Coast. Our head mentor Dean Fuller, who has also been with us for almost the entire journey, played with Mick Hadley for many, many years! Committee and mentors had a lunch to thank Bob yesterday, great fun! And Bob now has an honorary mentor T-shirt to wear certainly well earned!
