24.01.2022 I am excited to have the Roadside van up an running from this Sunday onwards, this is an alternate solution to RACV first responder, but much more thorough and although still a work in progress, can now do jump starts, diagnostics, tyre change and lock outs. Cars are a transfer point for germs, especially steering wheel, door handles etc. The mechanics, are using disposable gloves when handling cars... If you dont want to bring your car to us, we can come to you for battery replacements, diagnostics and wheel punctures, from $45 for Sale residents. As of yet we have no plans to close and its business as normal As mechanics it is normal for us to wash our hands frequently and our industry is remaining quite resilient which I think is important for keeping hysteria to a minimum. 14.01.2022 European vehicles can be very complex machines, on this BMW rear brake replacement requires winding back the electric handbrake with a scan tool not only that but we could not reset the reminder on the dash due to an implausible signal from the wear indicator located in the brake pad. Investigation showed they were reading at 240% worn and manually overriding the value in the computer was required, even though we replaced the wear indicators! Lucky we have the latest in diagnostic equipment as well as extensive European vehicle experience to get the job done.

This Subaru was towed in had a broken clutch fork and a massive coolant leak, both of which are common faults, that require a skilled technician to repair, you can see the coolant accumulated on the top of the block in the photos. 13.01.2022 Amarok for suspension upgrade and timing belt and water pump, 71 Beetle for engine rebuild, and E320 for brake, Suspension and electrical work including fixing the blower fan with near impossible to get parts! Also the White Amarok service body is an ongoing project getting a dual battery and mobile air compressor... you will see more of this project soon! If you have European car that needs some love there is no job too big or too small here.

11.01.2022 Cars everywhere and 2020 is of to a interesting and diverse bunch of jobs... a few break downs, a lancer that had the worst case of bad fuel I have seen in a long time, fuel rail, injectors and in tank pump almost completely blocked! Then this old Bentley towed in with a myriad of problems... thats going to be a challenge and a half... but she gets on well with the dead Volkswagens out the back!

09.01.2022 This Timing belt highlights the importance of periodical maintenance and was a very close call for the owner. If these teeth had broken, the valves would have contacted the piston resulting in a very expensive breakdown... make sure your timing belt is checked or replaced when the manufacturer recommends as this could save your Motor! #independentautomotive

05.01.2022 An update on our fixed price service and why you should service with us! We do not claim to have the cheapest fixed price service in town. But, I do aim to be the most thorough and transparent mechanic in town, if you would like to know how I plan to do that, than read below. Some shops offer very cheap services with the hope they can inflate the bill with unnecessary charges. I will never do that and will not sell you additives or exaggerate the costs. I became a mechanic ...because I was petrified of booking my car into a mechanic never knowing how much it would cost. I therefore believe in honesty, integrity and putting your best price upfront. Here is our current price list, updated to be even more transparent with you, our customer, and why you and others should trust me with your car! *fixed price service, for all cars and 4wds more than 5 years old not under warranty. Includes everything in a minor service schedule, tyres balanced and rotated if necessary, scan tool and service/oil life reset. $230 *minor or A log book service price, or for cars less than 5 years old, or in warranty: starting at $250. We can service all cars in warranty or 5 years old or less but must have special care to the additives used in the oil, in order to reduce possibility of damage or burning oil, also parts must be approved by manufacturer in order for them to honour the warranty. We Always take the same care your dealer would to ensure your car is serviced correctly and to the manufacturers requirements. Extra costs: vary depending on the car and will be quoted while the car is being inspected. We will not replace these without your authority. An example of these extra costs are, spark plugs, air filter, brakes, headlight globes, wiper blades, fuel filter. What we DONT charge extra for: Full synthetic oil: at least 90% of cars use full synthetic oil, and we use the right oil every time, the only extra charges for oil we will charge are for cars in warranty, that specifically require a low Sulfur or low ash content, or if your car uses over 10l of oil. I have seen shops add $20-50 to the bill just for full synthetic oil Rotate and balance: we do this only if necessary and while it may be listed in the bill it is built into the cost and is not charged extra. Many shops charge extra for this service. Scan tool service: if your engine light is on, we will check it during our service. Comprehensive inspection: as you can see, our service is quite comprehensive (like this post) and is good value for money. 02.01.2022 Got the Volkswagen 1600 block prepped and heads are done. Case crack tested and line bore checked was ok. This case is in good condition for something nearly 50 year old! Engine will be going back together this week
