17.01.2022 Yesterday our members enjoyed a fascinating tour of the Coaloader Centre for Sustainability (the old coaloader) at Waverton. The area of the historic coaloader platform has now been converted to a public own space, a place to relax & enjoy the views of sydney harbour, grab a coffee & learn. Look at those views!! & by the way, North Sydney Council now conduct free guided tours of the coaloader & if you have a passion for history & sustainability they are looking for volunteer...s to guide tours of the historic site. Phone 9936 8100 for more info. A little historical information for you: The peninsular where the Coaloader is located commands stunning views of the harbour, indeed it was a first place of physical & spiritual sustenance for the Cammeraygal people & evidence of their presence can be seen with the large rock carvings there The loader itself is a former industrial site that operated from the early 1920s to early 1990’s, functioning primarily as a transfer depot for coal from bulk carriers to similar coal-fired vessels. Some of the coal was also was also distributed to the local market by road transport. The site operated for over 70 years before it was decommissioned then declared a public space in 1997 & formally transferred to the North Sydney Council in 2003. Since then the Council has worked with a broad range of groups & with the assistance of members of the local community & funding from the NSW Government, the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability was born. The platform viewing are you can see in the first photo was opened to the public in March 2018. A great day was had by all!! Photos courtesy of one of our IATG guides & committee members Veronique Mandray Stay tuned for uodates on our next exciting member events throughout 2021.

Those of you who know Elda are aware of her passion & enthusiasm for the Australian Tour Guiding Industry & we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her at the IATG helm for the next year. There is of course, so much more to Elda! Did you know that Elda was born in Sydney to Italian parents, her mum from Friuli, northern Italy & her dad from Sicily. 08.01.2022 Virtual Tours...what’s it all about?
