12.01.2022 There is so much to learn before introducing children to the letters of the alphabet. It all starts with sounds. Our early work is focused on building phonemic awareness, identifying and joining sounds to make words. Once students are confident with phonemic awareness, we begin to connect graphemes, (letters) to the phonemes (sounds) they have learnt. It’s not easy because we only have 26 letters in our alphabet, yet our language has 44 sounds. Tricky for the beginning reader, but easy with a reading specialist at I Can Read!
