20.01.2022 Dental Amalgam waste generated by the Australian Dental Industry is the largest source of mercury pollution within our sewerage and waste water systems - contributing approximately 4-4.5 tonnes of mercury pollution to our environment each year. With that being said Australia is a recognised world-leader in mercury retention. Here at i-Care Dental Studio, we care about your health AND the health of the environment which is why we are an Amalgam Free Practice. We understand t...hat Dental amalgam waste is generated in two ways. The first is when amalgam is used as a filling material, hence, we do not place amalgam fillings. The second; is during the replacement of the amalgam filling or removal of the tooth (which is a service we provide) and is subsequently generated as waste. To ensure we are doing our part for the environment we have installed a highly specialized amalgam separator, which separates the amalgam waste from our waste water supply; amalgam is collected in a mercury safe container - which is then collected by a registered amalgam recycler.
