10.01.2022 The Sharks Ice Hockey Club logo has an interesting origin, it's actually Microsoft clip art from an old family computer running Windows 3.1 The logo began in the home of Phil Snow who would use the clip art from their first home computer and sat at the kitchen table and drew teeth on the toothless shark image in pencil. He also added a puck in the background behind the shark to complete the look. "Nobody is going to like that" said son, Michael Snow. Here we are 25 years later ...

Chartraw is noted as the first American player to be drafted in the first round into the NHL. 06.01.2022 VALE Bernie O'Brien. It is with deep sadness that Ice Hockey Victoria announces the passing of Bernie O'Brien. Bernie was always ready to volunteer for IHV events and work with the committee on special projects. He was known to be someone who could see a job needed doing and would just jump in and get it done. Many times he would help out in the scorers and penalty boxes, making sure everyone had what they needed and that the sport ran efficiently. Our deepest sympathy to Conor, Fraser and family. Ice hockey in Victoria has lost a great member of our sporting community.

01.01.2022 2020 will be noted as the first year the H.H. Kleiner Memorial Trophy has not been contested since it was first awarded in 1946. Henry "Harry" Hans Kleiner would build Victoria's 2nd indoor ice skating rink, the St. Moritz Ice Skating Palais by converting a dance hall (originally built as the Wattle Path Palais de Danse in St. Kilda). The new rink opened on March 10th, 1939 and it's early years endured the activity of the 2nd World War. The Trophy was first awarded in 1946,... to the Western Suburbs, who were one of 4 ice hockey clubs who formed in St. Moritz, and remained the playoff award for the highest level of State Association ice hockey in Victoria with the exception of a period between 2008-2013 when it was decided the Russell Jones Premiership Cup would take its place. In 2014 the H.H. Kleiner Memorial Trophy would return as the award for the highest level of Sate Association ice hockey and remains that way today. As this trophy is the original trophy first presented in 1946, it is actually older than the replica Stanley Cup that is presented to the winning playoff team in the NHL (which was made in 1963). Teams who win this award are placing their hands on the same trophy won by champions decades before them. The last team to be presented the trophy in it's original form was the Braves in 2017 as by 2018, the Sharks would win their 2nd in franchise history and become the first team to win the newly refurbished H.H. Kleiner Memorial Trophy. The central brass column was replaced with a longer brass column and needed refinishing was conducted by Peter Donegan. Currently the Blackhawks are the most recent Champions to have received this award, won at the conclusion of the 2019 Ice Hockey Victoria league Season. For the 2020 season that never was, an entry will note the first time this trophy has not been contested in its 74 year history.
