03.01.2022 On May 4th Google began rolling out a core Google Search Engine update, core updates normally take a few weeks to roll out completely, and are broad and unforgiving, this one particularly so. From what we know of the update so far, the industry verticals that have been affected mostly from this update have been the Travel, Retail, Finance and Health sectors, some sites in the health sector have seen a massive improvement whilst others have seen their rankings drop from the to...p 3 down to the top 20. This update being indiscriminate also seems to have affected many other industry verticals, with Spotify dropping a massive 14% in its rankings. From what we can see the update seems to have affected content thin pages with higher bounce rates more than content-rich pages with lower bounce rates. The winners from this update marking an overall increase in search engine rankings are local.com, yellowpages.com, superpages.com, businesswire.com whilst the companies experiencing a degradation are linkedin.com, manta.com, allmusic.com. Something to note here with this update is that is has been fashioned to serve more relevant results to the end-users query, as part of a further calibration of Googles RankBrain. With this in mind, some of the aforementioned sites which have a high domain authority are now ranking lower to provide the end-user with the best answer to their query, this will, in turn, decrease the quantity of those websites' overall traffic but, increase the relevant quality traffic.
