22.01.2022 These guys are fantastic and I simply LOVE their 'reference points' approach to developing resilience in kids. Too many kids today lack resilience and it's because in many cases we remove the obstacles from their path. Resilience isn't built in bedrooms or from behind a screen. You actually have to face some of life's challenges in a safe way and be able to work through them. If you want to improve your child's resilience (which will be a skill they will have for life) or si...mply want a lifelong shared experience with your child then check out their upcoming Cradle Mountain Resilience Program for Kids. By the way the 'reference points' approach is based on having a challenging situation that you have worked through in a positive way (eg. a trek or outdoors experience) and then having the ability to use this as your reference point when you are faced with other tough situations in life so you can work through them by drawing on your experience. These guys now their stuff and I have no hesitation in recommending this program to parents.

If you want to make it extra special spend some time working out how you can spend some real one to one time with your child doing things you both enjoy. Forget the Apple watch, new smartphone or the new gaming system, they are designed to take your child's time away from you and put it into ...a screen so companies can make money from it. It's time to lead! Dare greatly this Xmas and make it one to remember.

18.01.2022 Parents with kids on TikTok should ready this short post around how predators are using TikTok. https://www.bark.us/blog/predators-use-tiktok-kids/ I have loads of kids at iCode every week comment about wanting to grow subscribers to their accounts and channels. This mindset opens a child up to being more vulnerable to positive comments online. Make no mistake predators know this!... I'm not saying that children of the correct age (my recommendation is 13 years) shouldn't use TikTok but as a parent YOU need to be aware of the risks, and YOU need to be having the conversations to educate your child. And it is YOU that needs to set the boundaries around tech usage (times it can be used, rooms it is and isn't allowed in etc) This is a great app, but make no mistake it isn't all fluffy, fun dancing and songs, there's a lot of inappropriate sexual messaging, language and other content that young minds simple don't need exposure to at an early age. Dare to lead and celebrate the journey.

15.01.2022 As we start and buy Christmas gifts for our kids remember that to show a child they are loved requires you to give them your time and to do things together without distractions. The amount you spend on presents makes no difference over the course of your child's life. NEVER confuse the two. In the modern age this is more important than ever, as we struggle to turn off our phone and Netflix. Let's all make an effort these holidays for quality time with our kids.
