23.01.2022 SafeTech, G8Safe swimming pool gate latches recalled Monday, 9 April 2018 A nationwide recall of SafeTech and G8Safe swimming pool gate latches has begun, after an investigation by the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors found the latch assemblies did not comply with the Australian Standard. This has been followed up with the ACCC, who have issued a recall.... A defect in the striker component of the latch allows the locking mechanism of the gate to engage while the gate is open, causing the gate to remain fixed in the open position. The defect can be triggered by turning the key in the striker with sufficient force while the gate is open. The swimming pool gate latches have been on the market for more than four years. Full details of the recall can be found here. Owners of the affected products should immediately disable the locking mechanism by removing the latch key and filling the keyhole with waterproof adhesive. Step-by-step instructions are available from the SafeTech website or by calling 1300 034 096.
