25.01.2022 Dear friends, Please take the time to watch this clip from one of the most amazing artists, a human I admire for everything they are, and everything they contribute. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PrLjZvTUEi0&t=1s

25.01.2022 Bias Project Panel 15

22.01.2022 Dear awesome human beings, I'm embarking on an art project, and I'd really value your input. I'd like to put together a body of painted works that challenge the observer to acknowledge their own interpretation and assumptions about the people who are the subjects of the paintings.... I'd like people to be aware of their own biases as a result of interacting with these works, in order to dispel or harness those biases. And as a result, have more respectful, engaged and enriching interactions with their fellow human beings. Bias isn't necessarily a bad thing, don't get me wrong. Our pathological need to categorise the world around us has been influential in our evolution as a species, but it's come at a cost. We categorise relentlessly and, in the absence of empirical data, we make assumptions because we need to put everything in a figurative box in our mind. And those assumptions imply more or less value as a result. And this is where our evolution as a society falters; as we turn those assumptions on our fellow human beings. More often than not, our assumptions are that of less value when they're about people who represent facets of the human experience that are outside of our own. And this is hopefully where you come in. I'd love to hear from you if you're interested in collaborating with me by being a subject of a painting (especially if we can incorporate those elements that people may make assumptions about), or if you have an interesting experience on the receiving end of bias that we could translate into a painting, or even if you know someone who you think might like to be part of a project that challenges people to acknowledge their own assumptions about their fellow human beings. Please keep in mind that the more pedestrian and 'normal' the composition is, the less likely it is to inspire challenge and introspection in the observer, so think edgy! I'm looking forward to hearing from you! Ken

18.01.2022 As a kid, I always loved Superman. He was an immigrant who dedicated his life to the protection of the people he had chosen to be a part of, even though he never fully felt 'one of'. Having arrived in Aus in 1980, and dedicating the last 30-odd years to the service of our country and community, I figured it was about time that I recognised that character who influenced young me so. Plus, I now get to wear my jocks on the outside of my pants. I can't fly or take a punch though... Many thanks to Armani artspace for the spiritual experience of hand poke tattooing.

18.01.2022 Bias art project, panel 15. I'm biting my lip to stop me speaking at length about this panel, for the sake of the project's "what is YOUR relative context?" brief, because I want anyone who views these panels to reflect on their own reactions to the work. Suffice to say, it's been hard work with every panel (not applying context) but this one has been so challenging and so rewarding that I want to scream about it from the rooftops!

16.01.2022 Current work in progress. My energy hasn't been where it's important over the last couple of weeks, but I'm back and loving painting this Bias Project panel :)

15.01.2022 This wall in the studio is officially full, of Bias Project works.... and this is only 9 of 15!

15.01.2022 "In my eyes, indisposed In disguises no one knows Hides the face, lies the snake...." Sad that there'll be nothing new from this amazing artist. Miss you, Chris. ... https://youtu.be/9O0sAfnn-Oc

11.01.2022 The studio is coming together nicely. But what's it missing, I wonder?

11.01.2022 Bias Project panel 15, which should (fingers crossed) be finished tomorrow.

05.01.2022 Trying to do justice to a drag queen's makeup has given me an even deeper level of appreciation for the makeup art form.
