16.01.2022 Yesterday, the Bern Art Museum was surprised to learn it had been named sole heir of a large collection of artworks amassed by Hildebrand Gurlitt, a German art dealer specialising in "degenerate art" under the Nazi regime. The collection, estimated at 1 billion euro, includes about 1,500 artworks by the likes of Chagall and Picasso. The provenance of the artworks, many of them looted by the Nazi regime, raises complex ethical issues for the Swiss art gallery. Learn more: http://reut.rs/1jCeh0f

08.01.2022 In today's sneak peek into ICON Magazine Issue 4, we look at "Plumes and Pearlshells", coming up in May at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. In "Plumes and Pearlshells: Art of the New Guinea Highlands", Natalie Wilson, Curator at the Gallery, explains the background and roots of the magnificent art forms of New Guinea, which are the focus of this exhibition, from the initial settlement 50,000 years ago to the mutations brought by the contact with Western settlers in the 20...th century. The introduction of the time-honoured British tradition of the agricultural fair in the 1950s was a key initiative to curb fighting between warring tribes, as well as between indigenous population and colonial settlers, and would create an amazing opportunity for Australian Stanley Gordon Moriarty to gather an amazing collection of works of art and craft, most of which he later donated to the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Natalie Wilson's expertise is illustrated by beautiful photographs of the soon-to-be-exhibits and is featured in ICON 4, on sale May 5. Learn more about the contents in this issue on and see you tomorrow for a new preview of ICON Magazine #4.
