25.01.2022 In a week that we celebrate the contributions of Indigenous Australian's, for Sydney Swans AFL legend Michael O’Loughlin, one of the proudest moments of his life has nothing to do with sport. It was returning to his old primary and high schools to offer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students scholarships from the GO Foundation. Michael founded the GO Foundation for the betterment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students’ education in 2009. Michael encourages ...schools to get in touch with the GO Foundation to have a conversation about how they communicate and interact with their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Michael spends a lot of time visiting schools, acting as role models to students, encouraging them to work hard and pursue their goals. Michael wants the GO Foundation to be their legacy, rather than their achievements in sport. Our football careers were great; they’ve given us a profile. But we need to do more for our people. This is where we can add value and allow others to achieve their dreams. The GO Foundation will be our legacy rather than our sporting achievements. 23.01.2022 As the 2020 NAIDOC Week celebrations continue, we are delighted to showcase Brittany Krol who shares her mother’s story a women who dedicated her life to the Arrernte language and culture. Arrente is spoken by more than 1,800 people who live around Alice Springs and friends and family of Smith say that she dedicated her life to keeping the language alive. A bush medicine memorial garden has opened in Alice Springs to honour the legacy of long-time Arrernte teacher, Margaret... Smith, after her sudden death in 2018. The garden helps teach the Arrernte language by displaying each plant name in both Arrernte and English. Brittaney has inspired the next generation of Arrernte language teachers. They will carry on her passion for keeping the Indigenous language alive. 18.01.2022 Drill and blast processes are amongst the most expensive activities for mine operations and require measurement and audit. Poor fragmentation adversely impacts production outcomes and requires premium drill bits that are up to the task ahead. We measure post-blast movement with a focus on the improvement in ensuring quality holes and high production levels. 14.01.2022 Air is a critical factor in blasthole drilling performance. Without proper air flow, the tooling used will not be operating efficiently. When tooling is not kept clean and cool cuttings are not cleared from the face of the hole, and therefore the cost of your drilling operation increases. 12.01.2022 It's the incredible men like Clarence Atkinson; the first known Indigenous Australian to be awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal during the Second World War, who we are proud to celebrate during NAIDOC 2020. It was a day that would change Clarence Atkinson’s life forever: the 27th of June 1941. The then 26-year-old was serving as a private with the 2/3rd Battalion in Syria when he made a split-second decision to charge an enemy machine-gun during fighting near Damascus.... The men of 10 Platoon had been pinned down by enemy fire from a Hotchkiss gun for three hours while attempting to hold a defensive position on the Jebel Mazar feature. One section of 12 Platoon tried to outflank the gun, despite the number of snipers, but was held up. When the man next to him was shot in the head, Atkinson leapt into action. Armed with a haversack of grenades, he dashed forward among the rocks while coming under intense enemy fire. Pushing forward, he hurled the grenades, clearing the area of enemy and capturing the Hotchkiss gun. Compiled on this webpage are just some of the stories from the Memorial that recognise, celebrate and commemorate the history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Content will continue to be added until 15 November. Read on > https://lnkd.in/d7Ga6tQ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a long tradition of fighting for Country and continue to serve with honour among our military forces.
