25.01.2022 Today we announced the introduction of Independent Assessments in 2021. This video explains the purpose of an Independent Assessment and how they will benefit current and potential NDIS participants. Tap to learn more: https://bit.ly/3bfexCp

25.01.2022 When are these people going to get their heads out of the sand and prevent a major crisis.Seriously, people with a disability are less likely to get COVID because of the NDIS !! No wonder the NDIS is a mess with fools like Robert Bruce (or is it Bruce Robert) in charge. If Scomo stands up and says all the disability deaths were unforseen and he is deeply sorry... I may need a new tv. These guys are as dodgy as!!

25.01.2022 Grab some friends and dine out at Grill'd Burwood and put your token in the iDareU box. Share and boost here once done

23.01.2022 These results are exactly what iDareU is seeing on the ground. We have been extremely busy keeping forgotten families safe in their own homes in lockdown and advocating for mire support from the NDIS. And still little is done to recognise the extra challenges of these people during covid. #FundItAndFixIt #LeftBehindInPandemic #RobertBruceMP #BillShortenMP #ScottMorrisonMP #DanielAndrewsMP

23.01.2022 We went to Grill'd Burwood on Sunday for lunch with some friends, and family. We had a lovely lunch, food was amazing, and just being able to sit and chat with someone from outside our family was great too. The burgers were amazing, we have decided the Mighty Melbourne and Simon Says was the Pick of the Day. The complementry Chip platter was Beautiful. Zucchini Fritters were the pick on this platter ;) Remember to mention iDareU and put the token that you get when you order your burger into the iDareU jar. I hope you enjoy our month at iDareU. We are already planning our next visit.

22.01.2022 Its been awhile since my last Vlog...enjoy We are NOT all in this together - Disability has been ignored https://youtu.be/o0XQyTTavz0

19.01.2022 Please stop making this so hard. We are bruised and fragile already, COVID has made us even more vulnerable, and then we have to fight against the very service that is meant to be helping us. Please stop making our needs a battleground, stop assuming we are somehow trying to swindle services we dont need, and just let us have the NDIS that we were meant to get. Back in May and June we asked people with disability and their families about their experiences during the first w...ave of the Coronavirus pandemic. What problems they were facing, how they were coping and what they thought of changes made to the NDIS at this time. And most importantly - what else they thought needed to change. More than 700 people responded to the survey to tell us about their experiences. In short people said they felt forgotten by governments, left out of planning and extra financial payments and needed more help and support from the NDIS. What people said they wanted was: clear simple communication about what was happening more support to manage the challenges they were facing greater flexibility in ways they could use their NDIS funding so they could get what they needed to stay safe and well. These messages need to be heard because this pandemic is far from over. So we will be sharing the results of the survey when we give evidence to Disability Royal Commission today. We want to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to fill out the survey and have their say. We know everyone has so much on their plate at the moment and we are incredibly grateful to every single person who stopped and took the time to tell us about their experiences. You told us you want things to change. We do too. And we wont stop fighting until they do. You can read a news story about our survey report here - https://everyaustraliancounts.com.au/left-out-and-locked-d/ You can read the full report here - https://everyaustraliancounts.com.au/left-out-and-locked-d/ You can watch the Royal Commission hearing live here - https://disability.royalcommission.gov.au #NDISMakeItWork (Image description: A jumble of pages from the survey report. The front cover sits in the middle. It is red with white lettering. The text reads "Left out and locked down: the experiences of people with disability and their families during COVID-19" There is a white banner underneath with red lettering. 17.01.2022 All dressed up and ready to film the official launch of book number 5. What a star!!

16.01.2022 UPDATE: 81 with covid, across 50 sites!! What are you waiting for #GregHuntMP Dear #GregHunt, a couple of facts for you: 1: people with disabilities have lower ...numbers with COVID because they have stayed home or their families have kept them at home for the past 6 months, with very little Gov support and a lot more mental stress and work put onto them. 2: Just in the residentials, there are 71 cases in 31 care home and 2 deaths and rising ( not counting in the day services). #FactsAreUseful What a cop out by your Gov to not assist one of the most vulnerable groups in our country. JOURNALIST: Minister, two issues if I could. Firstly, Victoria, I understand the State Government asked for a state response centre to be set up on disability services like the aged care one, but the Federal Government turned down funding for that. Could you please qualify what the situation is and how well you believe disability services are covered there? The second question is to simply say that Labor argues that your effort towards a vaccine is way too little too late, and there should have been a more active push to win agreements far earlier in the piece, what is your response to that? GREG HUNT: Sure. Look, with regards to disability, the specific question Ill refer to Minister Stuart Robert. But the latest advice that I have is that there are 39 cases in Australia, active cases of people with disability under the NDIS who have COVID-19. All of those are in Victoria. And the other element of that advice is that those with a disability under the NDIS are four times less likely to contract COVID-19 than the general population. So I think that thats worth repeating, that the advice that I have- those with a disability under the NDIS care are four times less likely to contract COVID-19 than the general population.

15.01.2022 A HUGE shout out to Secure Meters. A wonderful business supporting our local Charity during these times by making face shields and ear protectors for us to sell. Shields are great for people working closely with people with a disability and the ear protectors are awesome for people whose ears dont like elastic around them or people having to wear their masks for a long period. All proceeds go towards supporting people with disabilites and thier families Go to: https://www.id...areu.org.au/shop/ to place an order or email us on: [email protected] What are other businesses doing during this time to support people in need? https://www.securemeters.com/in/global-locations/australia/ #ShieldsProtectsPeople #BusinessesMakingaDifference #SecureMeters #idareu

08.01.2022 Amen to this....as of sometime 2021, NDIS will be accessable to those who cant afford the costs involved to getting reports the NDIS demand to become a participant.Often hundreds and thousands of $$$ The NDIS will be paying. Will be interesting to see what strategy they come up with to do this. One small step for equality and fairness- one big step for better lives...

07.01.2022 I have seen providers claiming payment for finished servies often. And they claim they werent notified...until the email notification is presented. This also happens with Plan Managed participant. Even know of 1 case where the participant had been suspended, pending a reviewby a provider. Took money out monthly for 9 months but never instigated a review. The participant and family didnt speak english and were too scared to complain!!!

07.01.2022 I am getting ready to file a disability discrimination complaint against Jetstar in the Federal Court next week over their policy to force electric wheelchair u...sers to relinquish their chairs at check-in at Sydney Domestc T2 terminal. People then have to transfer into a Jetstar provided manual wheelchair - either a standard hospital style one or an aisle chair. They then have to be driven to the plane for boarding. This is unsafe (no suitable seating, no proper straps, danger of pressure sores and falling out of the chairs) and of course takes independent mobility away. There is no doubt in my mind this is disability discrimination- and my legal team agree. But I need your help! I need to put in an application to the Court for a maximum cost order- I cant really risk having to PT $100,000 -200,000 of Jetstars legal costs should I loose... In order to be granted a cost cap (of $15,000) I need to show this is a public interest issue - i.e I need to show that this a disability discrimination issue other people struggle with, and resolving it would benefit more people than just out child (which is of course the whole point). I cannot afford to Court without a cost cap - and then Jetstarcan just continue to discriminate against wheelchair users. No. I am not asking for money. I am looking for anyone who use an electric wheelchair and have traveled with Jetstar to and or from Sydney Domestic terminal would be willing to be contacted by my solicitors (Public Interest Advocacy Centre) to give an affidavit on how transferring to the manual wheelchairs provided by Jetstar had impacted you (as in, took away your mobility, independence and dignity, or how you cannot sit safely in those chairs) could you please PM me your contact details? Alternatively, if you are a powerchair user who avoids Jetstar and Sydney Domestic for that very reason, we would be equally interested. Please, at this point, only electric wheelchair users and Jetstar Sydney Domestic only or people using manual wheelchairs with very specific scripted seating who would be endangered by sitting in non-scripted chairs). Can you, or someone you know, help? You wont have to write anything if you dont want to - the lawyers will ring and ask you questions. They will put it into a statement for you to sign (witnessed). Update: please comments from people who can provide help on this issue only. And can people please stop commenting with what I should do instead? I have spends more than a year on this issue. Yes, I am aware of the law. As is my legal team (2 solicitors, one barrister, one senior barrister , all working for free). Yes I have been through the AHRC procedure. 06.01.2022 These guys do great work!

06.01.2022 So the State shadowminister for disability thinks it is OK to mock these same people. Bernie Finn you do not deserve this role...shame on you...

06.01.2022 This is very real for many younger males who have autism, because they cannot tell if they are being deceived/played

06.01.2022 News from the NDIS: In addition to wearing single use surgical masks, disability support workers are now required to wear eye protection when directly working with clients. Weve got you covered with our locally made, 3D printed face shields. Why pay $10 from other providers, when ours are a steal at just $5 each plus postage (or local pick up within 5kms of Ringwood North). Your purchase helps us help people with disabilities and their families access the support they nee...d. Our face shields are lightweight, easy to clean, and can be comfortably worn with a mask so you can be sure you and your support workers are protected. Dont forget you/your service providers can claim the cost of PPE from the NDIS as well. Purchase face shields here: https://www.idareu.org.au/product/face-shield/ You can read more about the PPE updates for disability services here: http://createsend.com/t/t-6C5506E30DE841312540EF23F30FEDED

03.01.2022 Just in case you missed it ... At the end of last week, the Disability Discrimination Commissioner Dr Ben Gauntlett released some guidelines about the rights of... people with disability during the COVID19 pandemic. They have been written to make sure people with disability can get the same health care and support as other people in the community during the pandemic. And that their rights are respected and protected. The guidelines have been written to help health care workers and people who work in the disability sector to make good decisions when it comes to supporting people with disability. They give practical examples of what to do - and what not to do - so that people with disability get the care and support they need. They are also useful for people with disability and their families who want to know more about their rights - and how to protect them. And what to do if you think you have been discriminated against. You can find a copy of the guidelines here - https://humanrights.gov.au//guidelines-rights-people-disab And there is also an Easy Read version of the guidelines here - https://humanrights.gov.au//AHRC_EasyRead_COVID19%20_Guide (Image description: A picture of the front cover of the Easy Read version of the guidelines. There is a photo of a young woman on the cover. She is smiling. Another person can be seen in the distance. The text reads "Human rights in health and disability care during COVID19. Guidelines. August 2020." The Australian Human Rights Commission logo is in the top left hand corner. An Easy Read logo is in the bottom right hand corner)

02.01.2022 I fully agree with EAC..yep, yeppers & Hell yeah!!! I wonder if the NDIS will take any notice...time will tell - not too much time, I hope because THAT has been the major issue!

01.01.2022 This is a great blog... perfectly described a devaluing system that is about to make people even more devalued! I wish people without a disability would take an interest in how the NDIS treats vulnerable humans. I reckon they would get an uncomfortable surprise... Please read and share.
