24.01.2022 Easter is around the corner and with the change of our clocks on Sunday now is the time to check your smoke alarms. Some considerations: - Do you have smoke ala...rms in all sleeping areas? - Are your smoke alarms over 10 years old? If so replace them. - If your smoke alarm is a 9V battery operated unit, change the battery. - Fire services recommend photoelectric smoke alarms. For more information visit: http://www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colSmokeAlarm

23.01.2022 Its hot out there... and conditions are expected to worsen this week. We will be declaring Total Fire Bans for Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Forecast weather ...conditions on those days will make containing existing fires and stopping new fires extremely difficult. The total fire ban on Tuesday applies to the North and South, not the North West. The bans on Thursday and Friday apply statewide. No matter where you are, we need you to do the following things now to prepare for this week: - ensure your property is clear of long grass, twigs, and leaf litter. - review your Bushfire Survival Plan. - if you dont have a Bushfire Survival Plan, you must decide what you will do if there is a fire near you. If your home is not well prepared for a bushfire then leaving early is your safest option. Fires are burning right across Tasmania at the moment. If you are spending time in the bush and at camping areas, you must be aware of the local conditions, stay up to date via www.fire.tas.gov.au and listen to ABC Local Radio if there is a fire near you.

20.01.2022 The Tasmania Fire Service has declared the continuation of the Total Fire Ban for Friday with dangerous fire weather conditions expected. The Total Fire Ban wil...l remain in the south and will extend to the entire north and parts of the north-west until midnight on Friday. "The Total Fire Ban that is in place has been extended until midnight on Friday because of the predicted conditions, said State Fire Controller Greg Butters." The conditions in some areas are expected to see very high and severe fire danger ratings. Dry and windy conditions and temperatures in the high 20s to mid-30s are expected. A front is expected to cross the south east mid-morning and reach the north east by mid-afternoon. With the front we will see stronger and gustier wind speeds and the potential for thunderstorms. The continuation of a Total Fire Ban means that no fires can be lit in the open air. "Fires that occur will be difficult to control and we urge the public to report any fires to TFS immediately by calling triple zero to give us the best chance of containing the fire quickly," said Mr Butters. For more information about Total Fire Bans visit www.fire.tas.gov.au

10.01.2022 Switchboard Safety Sadly, each year far too many people are killed in Australian homes in electrical accidents that could be prevented. And many more are hospitalised with serious electrical injuries and burns. Preventable accidents with tragic consequences:... * A child inserting an implement into a toaster * A handyman drilling into a live cable inside a wall * Stormwater leaking through a roof and into lights and appliances Master Electricians Australia is committed to helping home owners stay safe. A 10-point visual safety check of your homes switchboard is now available. Unsafe switchboards can lead to fire, electric shock and potentially death. Your Master Electrician will discuss with you any electrical safety issues requiring urgent attention and things you might like to consider for the future. If you have engaged a Master Electrician to undertake work for you, the 10-point visual safety check can be completed whilst on-site, no additional cost. If you require an electrician to come to your home to only undertake the safety check there will be a charge. Your electrician will discuss this with you prior to attending your home. From January 2019, Safety switches became mandatory on all circuits in new homes. They are designed to cut the power to an electrical circuit in the event of an electric shock. Safety switches on all circuits in the switchboard will increase the overall safety of the home.
