09.01.2022 FEELING THE COLD? - TOP 4 TIPS TO KEEP YOUR HOME WARM THIS WINTER Below are 4 of our top tips to get the most out of your heater this winter (for the least amount of money). Don’t turn your heating on and off... Unfortunately, your system uses a lot more energy (electricity/gas) when you heat the house up from a very low temperature, than from a mid-range temperature. By keeping your home at a mid-range temperature, you are keeping the core of your home from getting icy cold, meaning that when you do turn the thermostat up, it does not have to work as hard to bring the house to the temperature you are comfortable at. Unless you are from tropical Queensland, the optimum winter temperature for your home is between 18 and 20C. For every additional degree above this setting, you can expect to add approximately 10% to your heating costs. Stop the cold air from coming in & the warm air from getting out While this sounds obvious, the amount of total heat lost through small gaps over a winter season is often underestimated. Seal all drafts within doors and windows, keep your window coverings closed and ensure evaporative cooling louvers in the ceiling vents are closed. As you limit the amount of fresh winter air that breezes into your home, remember to have your gas heating system tested for dangerous carbon monoxide output. Program your thermostat correctly If you arrive home and are feeling particularly cold, don’t be tempted to turn the thermostat up to >25 deg C. This uses a disproportionate amount of energy, even for a short amount of time, much like driving your car with extreme throttle movements causes unnecessarily high fuel consumption. 09.01.2022 This AC has seen better days We were called out for a service and did not expect to find the outdoor unit in this state. A new unit is being installed just in time for the summer

08.01.2022 Warning: Following a routine service call a VERY dangerous heater was discovered and shut down. The photos below show how the heat exchanger was resting on the bottom of the heater base plate. Due to the extreme heat, it burnt through the metal sheeting and has started to burn wooden boards under the heater. ... The home owner was totally unaware of this but had luckily arranged the annual service check to be done. This is a testament to our service procedures and the expertise of our technicians to pick this up. Recommendation: Please ensure you have only experienced & thorough tradespeople work on your systems and ensure they allow up to a full hour to properly investigate and service your gas heater. There are a lot of checks that MUST be done and this takes time. Servicing that lasts less than 30 min is rushing the process and you cant afford to miss things like this. If you have concerns about your heating system or it has been more that 2 years since its last service, please get a service booked in.

If airborne pathogens in your home or work place are a concern for you, please call our offices to book in our sterilisation service to your heating and/or cooling system. Following our routine service and cleaning of your system, we will treat the filter and return air box with a highly specialised disinfectant and protectant that has a prolonged anti microbial action.... Unlike basic hand sanitisers, the anti microbial surface protectant bonds to the surfaces and continues to kill pathogens on contact for weeks after the treatment. When opening windows (during winter) is not safe or practical, this is another proactive step that can be taken to improve air quality in the home or office. Cleaner is always healthier and the extra peace of mind during these times is most welcome.

01.01.2022 A key reason to have your Gas heater serviced regularly is to check the heat exchanger. Stress fractures can occur and are unfortunately very common in some brands. The concern is that the combustion gasses, containing deadly Carbon Monoxide (odorless), will leak into the warm airflow entering the house. Because we cant smell these dangerous gasses, the need for regular checks isnt always obvious. If its been a few years since your system was thoroughly checked over... and serviced, please make a note to get it done as soon as possible. With people spending more time at home this winter, these systems are really working hard.
