21.01.2022 Dr. Kurt Fischer, Charles Bigelow Professor of Education, co-founder of the International Mind Brain and Education Society and inaugural president, and long time faculty researcher at Harvard Graduate School of Education passed away on March 30. He was a visionary and a pioneer in the field of Mind, Brain and Education. His work impacts millions of researchers, teachers and students all over the world. Kurt Fischer's incredible work and his personal encouragement to me, wa...s instrumental in my beginning our work at IDEALearning. Just over seven years ago when I was a grad student in Sydney, Australia, I sent Kurt a random email asking him if my idea to start an organization to attempt to bridge the gap between research and practice in mind, brain and education, was crazy. I didn't know Kurt personally at all. I had just been reading his papers and had heard him speak a few times. To my surprise he actually replied to my email, didn't laugh at the naivety of a hopeful grad student. He encouraged me to pursue a dream, that today is an established company that actually does reach teachers around the world connecting research in neuroscience, psychology and education! I met Kurt a few times in person at conferences over the years. I was always nervous about speaking with him - he seemed so important and accomplished, but he was always very kind and generous in answering my questions and providing advice. His encouragement gave me the confidence I needed to move forward with my dreams for establishing IDEALearning. I've heard from other colleagues of the way Kurt encouraged them too and I can't imagine how many millions of lives are impacted by his incredible contribution to our lives. I am so grieved to read of his passing. He was a legend in the field and such a kind man.
