24.01.2022 Straight out of lockdown and into the long weekend! Identilab will be closed from 5pm Thursday 1st April to 9am Tuesday 6th April. We wish everyone a wonderful break with friends and family!
24.01.2022 Our hearts are breaking over the devastation that is currently taking place in Australia as fires ravage the country. So far, more than 12 million acres have been burned, at least 24 people have been killed, and nearly 2000 homes have been destroyed. It is estimated that half a billion animals have perished, but the real figure is likely to be much higher. Like us, you might feel helpless, but there are many ways you can make a difference. Many charities have been inundated... with items such as food, clothing, and toys, and have stated that they don't have the facilities to accept any more physical donations. One charity who can take your items is GIVIT - Goods For Good Causes, who match specific items with those who need them. Check out their list of items needed here: http://www.givit.org.au/items-needed If you are able to offer temporary accommodation to people who have been displaced, even if it's just a room in your home, you can register at Airbnb Open Homes. https://www.airbnb.com.au/openhomes/ If you're able to make a financial donation, you can do so here: The Australian Red Cross (https://www.redcross.org.au/): supporting thousands of people in evacuation centres, providing psychological first aid to reduce trauma, and offering emergency assistance (including cash grants) to people who have lost homes. The NSW Rural Fire Service (https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/about-us/fundraising), the Victorian CFA (Country Fire Authority)(https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/about/supporting-cfa#donate-cfa) and the SA Country Fire Service (https://cfsfoundation.org.au/donate): donations will directly benefit the amazing volunteer firefighters working tirelessly on the frontline. The NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service (WIRES): helping the many NSW wildlife victims:https://www.wires.org.au/donate/emergency-fund If you are unable to donate items or money, you might like to consider donating blood at an Australian Red Cross Lifeblood centre (https://www.donateblood.com.au/). Many regional collection centres have been affected, which is impacting on the national supply of blood products. [This beautiful illustration is by Sketch.inc]
23.01.2022 A huge thank you to everyone who came to the Identilab tour this week! I myself thought the experience was awesome, gaining an insight and so much information o...f a real life laboratory setting. Massive thanks to @Identilab for letting us all come and meet you, pick your brains, hear your experiences and stories and to see all your equipment! We all loved it!!! #gufss #gufss2021 #griffithuniversityforensicsciencesociety #griffithuniversity #clubsatgriffith
22.01.2022 Great article on the use of DNA testing for inheritance disputes by Bartier Perry Solicitors. Identilab offers legally admissible DNA testing for this purpose, and can even obtain samples from a deceased person under certain circumstances. Call us on 1300 114 294 or email us at [email protected] to discuss your situation.
21.01.2022 The process of having a DNA test performed at Identilab - from ordering a test to getting your results - involves many steps and depends on multiple factors. A lot of people think that it all happens very quickly, and they can have their results instantly, probably because they’ve seen it happen like that on TV. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Our standard processing times are 5-10 business days after you have received confirmation that your samples have arrived back in our laboratory for analysis.
20.01.2022 Being asked to prove a biological relationship between you and family members can be a very stressful time, made even more difficult when those family members are in a country experiencing ongoing conflict. Identilab recently had the privilege of helping Mohammad and his family in Yemen achieve this through a process that took four months to complete. We love what we do. Very extremely thanks to you and identilab team. You been very helpful and supportive. I deeply appreciate it. I will recommend you to anyone that I know who wants to do the same test. And a very special thanks for you Kate. I hope one day to meet you in person to thank you. You done such great work by following immigration departments, embassies and other organisations. I feel relieved now. God bless you and take care all. Have a nice day.
19.01.2022 IDENTILAB'S COVID-19 PLAN: Like you, we're keeping a close eye on the coronavirus pandemic and what it means for our clients, staff, and operations. While it is currently business as usual at Identilab, we have plans in place to try to minimise the impact as far as possible. Of course, a lot of this will be outside our control. We have been advised that community Justice of the Peace programs are being suspended across the country. This will affect clients who are undertakin...g testing under the Family Law Regulations and are required to sign an affidavit in the presence of a qualified witness. Further, having samples collected by a medical professional is becoming increasingly difficult as the wonderful doctors and nurses around the country prioritise patients that need essential assistance. For the time being, we are still offering free collection appointments in our office in Eight Mile Plains for our clients in SE Qld. This may change in the very near future. We are also being advised that some overseas collection appointments for our immigration clients are being put on indefinite hold as the Department of Home Affairs and panel physicians direct their resources elsewhere. Orders will continue to be sent and samples will continue to be processed until such time as we are told we cannot leave our houses. Hopefully, it doesn't come to that! We have set up our staff to be able to work remotely for all non-laboratory aspects of our operations, and we will continue to be on hand to take your calls and emails from home should you need us. As we all have families of our own, you may hear the sounds of children/televisions/dogs in the background. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we all try to get through this crazy time together. Stay well, Kate x
19.01.2022 Identilab was recently engaged to undertake DNA testing for immigration purposes by Mohammad, who lives in Perth, and his parents, who live in Yemen. Mohammad needed this testing done to provide evidence of a biological relationship between him and his parents to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Coordinating a DNA sample collection in a war-torn country is no easy task.
19.01.2022 Due to the science behind DNA testing, your results must be worded in a certain way which can be confusing. Read on for some further information to help you understand it better.

15.01.2022 Preparing for the birth of a baby on the other side of the world is a nerve-wracking experience at the best of times. Having to do it during a pandemic is beyond imagination. If Identilab can help make this process easier, we will. We love our surrogacy families, and it seems they love us too.

11.01.2022 Thinking of our Thermo Fisher/Life Technologies friends today as they celebrate the life of their lovely Sally.
11.01.2022 Meet our Genetic Analyser! This machine acts like a sieve, and separates your DNA based on size. As it comes through the sieve, a laser excites fluorescent dyes that we've attached to your DNA and a camera detects the different fragments. This allows us to then view your DNA in a graph-like picture that we call a DNA profile. #sciencerules
10.01.2022 Unfortunately, our customers have been affected by issues at the new Australia Post facility in Brisbane, which is why we offer tracking on all our DNA collection kits. While we can't make things arrive any quicker, we can at least see where your order currently is. Identilab sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused.

02.01.2022 IDENTILAB'S COVID-19 PLAN (UPDATED 25TH MARCH 2020): We continue to keep a close eye on the coronavirus pandemic and the guidance being provided by health officials, state and federal governments. We are still operating as usual at Identilab, but as of today, Wednesday 25th March 2020, we will not be offering on-site sample collections until further notice. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.
