The event gave us the opportunity to showcase Mediterranean ingredients. We chose to highlight kalamata olives. An ingredient that is found all over Spain and a staple of Spanish cuisine. One community that has been greatly affected is Kangaroo Island, a place that is very dear to Pete as some of his family are residents. Pete and his family recently visited this small island located off the coast of SA. The unprecedented and unpredictable fires have devastated much of the Island. 09.01.2022 Halcyon Days "Gris-Noir" 2019 - Hawkes Bay, NZ I was pretty excited to when Campbell started bringing Halcyon Days into Australia earlier this year. I had been long awaiting to taste them since just missing out on catching them at their stall at Soulfor Wine. The Gris-Noir is made up of whole bunches of Pinot Gris, placed into pressed Pinot Noir juice. This was a warm year by Hawkes bay standards resulting in a pronounced fruit characteristic. Fun, Juicy and Structured. Per...fect for those dishes that sit in-between being too big for a white and too light for a red. Halcyon Days is made up of Amy Hopkinson-Styles and Olly Styles. The grapes are sourced from a BioGro Certified Vineyard in Mangatahi, which is a sub-region of Hawkes Bay situated along southern terraces on the Ngaruroro river. The ethos at Halcyon Days is about the representation of the land and purity of fruit in the wines.

09.01.2022 A few of our favourite releases by some aussie heroes of minimal intervention wine making. Didi Wines Giallo Muscat au Petit Grain & Riesling 2018 - Vine Vale, SA... Tom Shobrook has a warm place in my heart from his eccentric personality to his no bullsh*t approach to winemaking. This one is straight up delicious juice, to be taken seriously and eaten with seafood or to be drank from the bottle in the park. It’s up to you! Manon Peaches Field Blend 2018 - Adelaide Hills, SA Each year I stare at my email impatiently awaiting the Manon release and try to get my hands on as many of the Manon wines as I can, it’s never as much as I want as the production is so small but I feel lucky to get some. The Peaches is a serious orange wine made up of Pinot Grus, Savagnin, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Louis & Sholto Broderick Pamplemousse Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot 2017 The Broderick boys are the sons of the ever so talented Basket Range Wines. The two take a less classic approach to their wines than their parents, as opposed to focusing on varietal they focus on the structure of wine they wish to achieve, which often involves blending. The type of red that teters on being a rose with a savoury finish. Bobar Caberet Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot & Pinot Noir 2018 - Yarra Valley, VIC If you know us here at IDES, you know how much we adore Tom & Sally Belford at Bobar wines. The two produce structured mineral styles of white wine and lighter styles of red. The Caberet kind of came together by accident when they realised the vineyard was cross planted, but what a beautiful accident it was. This was the first release of this wine, now moving on to the second vintage that has been released this year. ...
