18.01.2022 Seasonal eating. What is it? Eating seasonally refers to purchasing and eating fruit and veggies that are grown at a particular time of year. This might look like buying mangoes in summer, cabbage in winter, pumpkin in autumn or strawberries in spring. Seasonally eating has a range of benefits, both for our health, as well as our bank accounts. It encourages us to eat a wide variety of produce. Eating a range of fruit and veggies means your body is receiving a variety of diff...erent nutrients that help with maintaining a healthy weight, protect against heart disease and help with digestion. Better yet, buying produce in season means they are more nutritious and tastier than when eaten outside of their peak harvest time. Buying according to season also gives more bang for your buck. Produce bought in season is often more readily available and cheaper, as farmers yield greater amounts so can sell the fruit and veggies for less. Overall, we think buying seasonal is great if you have the option. To view the produce available in each season in Victoria, visit https://buff.ly/2FmRuJY #NNW2020 #Tryfor3 #veginspo

This month we asked our staff & residents I tune in to myself by. And here are there responses.

The Kooyoora Women’s Network came together for the first time since International Women’s Day in March 2020. The ladies looked vibrant in their orange outfits and with the hum in the room, it sounded like they were all enjoying catching up again. The lunch was held to raise awareness about how ...to recognise harmful behaviours and support families experiencing domestic violence and provide information. IDHS Health Promotion Officer Cindy Gould and AOD Clinician Sonya Leigh spoke to many women on the day about a variety of women’s health initiatives and local support services. The ladies were keen to reengage in the IDHS strength training timetable when our services reopen. The day was a fantastic way to raise awareness and provide local contact information to support our families. Thank you to all 50 women who attended and to Carly Noble and Barbra Rodwell for providing the raffle prizes on the day in support of the Kooyoora Women’s Network. There are a range of ways people can respond to sexism, harassment and disrespect towards women, depending on the context and your level of confidence. As a bystander you believe someone is in immediate danger call 000 and ask for police. If you or someone you know are experiencing or have experienced family violence and/or need extra support contact the IDHS Mental Health Team on 5431 7000. 09.01.2022 Good afternoon all, Following the announcement by Premier Daniel Andrews yesterday of the planned changes to restrictions as of midnight tonight for regional Victoria, the Executive team met earlier today and we want to inform you of the changes to be implemented from tomorrow (Thursday 17 September). We plan to reintroduce visiting to our Residential Aged Care in a careful manner to ensure the continued safety of our residents and staff.... From Thursday we will welcome up to two (2) visitors for the maximum of one (1) hour per day for our residents and hospital patients. To enable us to manage people within the facility we will limit the number of people as follows: Up to three (3) residents and one (1) hospital patient can have a visitor at any one time. This will result in a maximum of eight (8) visitors in the facility. Each visit will be booked in advance and on arrival the visitors will complete a declaration, have their temperature checked and be provided with a mask. Whilst in IDHS, the visit will occur either within the resident’s room or in one of our lounge/outdoor areas to ensure social distancing within the facility. Visits will be limited to one hour to enable other visitors to also see their relatives. We would prefer visits Monday to Friday or on weekends when reception is open to enable the required check ins. We want to thank the families and friends of our residents for their patience and support over the weeks we have been locked down for the safety of our residents. We know that our residents are looking forward to your visits as much as you are to see family. We hope that we can continue to open our health service up in the coming weeks to return to normal as much as possible. Kind regards Tracey Wilson CEO, IDHS.

Happy Halloween to everyone giving it a go this year.
