24.01.2022 Remembrance Day Why is this day special to Australians? At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted the allied terms of unconditional surrender.... Today ... we remember. 05.01.2022 HOW TO VOTE BY PHONE If you're concerned about your health and social distancing while voting this weekend, the Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ) has made it possible for us to VOTE BY PHONE and avoid the $134 fine for not voting. Here's a step by step guide on how to vote by phone so feel free to share this post instead of the virus.... Call the ECQ: 1300 912 782 Select Option 1 State that you've been advised by medical professionals to practice self-isolation as much as possible, which we all have and for reference, this advice is displayed on the Department of Health website. Provide your Name and Date of Birth and Mobile Phone Number. Create a 6 Digit PIN. You will be sent a Registration Number by Text Message almost instantly, or by telephone call if you requested this option. Select the candidates you wish to vote for which are available from the CANDIDATES link below. Then, call the ECQ again: 1300 912 782 Select option 2 Provide your Registration Number and PIN to the agent. The agent will read the ballot paper/s then ask you for your voting preferences. The agent will then print and deposit your ballot papers. The whole process should take less than half an hour which is probably less time than it would take to jump in your car and drive to a polling booth, vote and return home.
