19.01.2022 Five food-delivery workers have been killed at work in the last three months. While the convenience of meal delivery helped get many of us through this difficult year, we cannot ignore the tragic human cost of a business model dependent on exploitation of vulnerable workers. These 'independent contractors' are not provided with insurance or safety training or gear (let alone job security or sick leave), and have to work at dangerous speeds to make even a meager income. ... 17.01.2022 Updated advice to Victorian schools (4 February): Following the Government’s announcements regarding new statewide restrictions that came into effect at 11:59pm on Wednesday 3 February, there is new guidance for schools regarding the wearing of masks. People aged 12 and over must wear a fitted face mask when in public indoor spaces unless there is a lawful reason not to. Students aged 12 or older must wear a face mask indoors when at school, unless they are attending a prim...ary school, an Outside school hours care (OHSC) program or an exception applies. Children under 12 years of age and students at primary school or attending an OHSC program are not required to wear face masks. School staff are not required to wear face masks while teaching or caring, but those who wish to do so, can. Staff must wear face masks in indoor areas of the school when not teaching or caring. Visitors to school sites must also wear masks when indoors. Please ensure anyone on your school site is aware of the updated face mask requirements. Further advice regarding these measures will be provided when available.

17.01.2022 Seriously? As we emerge from a pandemic that highlighted (and was exacerbated by) the terrible dilemma faced by low-paid insecure workers, the Federal government, state opposition and employer lobby have united to attack a Victorian scheme to grant paid sick and carers’ leave to casual workers. How low can they go? ... Australian Unions Victorian Trades Hall Council

08.01.2022 A letter to all Victorian school staff from the Premier, acknowledging the hard yards you’ve all put in this year. We were specially asked to share this with IEU members!

06.01.2022 This sacking is a shameful example of discrimination which would be illegal in almost any other workplace. It's time for the rest of the country to follow the lead of Tasmania and the ACT by ditching anti-discrimination exemptions which deny employees of faith-based institutions the basic protections, rights and dignities afforded to all other Australian workers. Our schools should foster inclusivity and acceptance, not divisive and damaging bigotry. 03.01.2022 Unlike many other countries, teachers in Australia have not been listed as a high-priority group for COVID-19 vaccination. What do you think? Where should teachers and school staff be in the vaccine queue?
