25.01.2022 I’m not trying to suggest anything, I’m just saying no one actually knows Banksy’s identity. Who’s to say it’s not Charlie? The man behind the drawings has added another masterpiece to the gym! Thanks Charlie for always adding something cool to the gym!

24.01.2022 3 TIPS TO LIMIT WEIGHT GAIN OVER CHRISTMAS It's that time of year. It's the time of year when there is always way too much food, and we say "we'll buy less next year!" and then we never buy less food. But it can be hard not to overeat with how much food is available. I definitely splurge way too much on Christmas day. While a little indulgence is fine, experts say, it’s important to proceed mindfully, tweaking your diet to account for those chocolate tarts or extra cocktails ...at holiday parties. Surprisingly, it's not the actual amount we gain, but rather the fact that we don't burn it off afterwards. A 2016 calculation published in the New England Journal of Medicine puts the average holiday weight gain through New Year’s at 0.7%. However, most of us don’t lose all of that extra kilogram or two, so it accumulates each year. So, here's 3 tips we can use to help limit our eating during the holidays. 1) SPLURGE ON WHAT YOU LOVE MOST My No. 1 philosophy is to pay attention to what you can’t live without, said Cynthia Sass, a Los Angeles-based registered dietitian. Sass has her clients rank their splurges from zero to five, with five being one of their favorite things, such as their aunt’s pecan pie. If it doesn’t rank at least a four, you won’t regret forgoing it. 2) EAT SOMETHING BEFORE GOING TO PARTIES Because a lot of the foods passed at parties aren’t exactly healthy, have a small salad, preferably with protein, or a small bowl of vegetable soup, or even some Greek yogurt topped with berries and high-fiber cereal to fill you up before you go. If you’re on the run, nibble some protein-rich roasted chickpeas or edamame. And once you’re there, keep your back to the buffet and your hands full, so you can’t easily grab nibbles off those trays. (or in my case, stay away from the bowl of m&ms) 3) EXERCISE! Squeezing in a couple of workouts, even when time gets tight helps keep you in the right frame of mind to stay on track with your other healthy habits, including your diet. Most importantly, pay attention to how you’re feeling as you’re eating, and stop when you feel satisfied but not stuffed, a point that’s good for your digestion, energy and mood.

16.01.2022 DELAYED ONSET MUSCLE SORENESS (DOMS) Delayed onset muscle soreness or DOMS is muscle soreness occuring anywhere from 24 to 72 hours after exercise. While there has been research into why this occurs, the exact cause is not known. Most beginners to the gym will experience DOMS after exercise. This soreness can be particularly uncomfortable and it implicated as the reason most beginners quit the gym after a short period of time.... Although, while it may be uncomfortable, DOMS is a good indication that your body is CHANGING and ADAPTING to the physical demands being imposed on it from the training program. HOW DO WE MANAGE DOMS? Treatment for DOMS is usually indivdualised. Common methods or relief are: - Ice - anti-inflammatory drugs - light activity - massage or foam rolling - hydrotherapy - complete rest Personally, I recommend light activity, such as walking the dog, complete rest or foam rolling (as shown in the picture) So remember, if you do experience DOMS, don't panic. Your body is just following a natural progress in order to adapt to your training, this is normal, so don't get frustrated and quit, push yourself further.
