03.01.2022 Let’s Talk Travel with Steve Hui. Today's topic: What will travel look like in the next 12 months? As airlines reboot and move to new models and strategies of capacity, profitability and safety.... Key points: 1. Economy class is changing. More likely: Middle seats will be blocked out and fares higher. Less likely: screen dividers or physical seat changes. 2. Airline toilets could be a virus spreading point, so toilets could be fitted with UV sanitation lights that blast out virus & germ-killing UV after each use, meaning time between uses will be controlled. 3. Business-class demand will increase, along with the price tag. Ultra long-haul direct flights will be desirable, as airport transits pose a health risk from change of planes, new passengers and crew. 4. If retail flight prices go up, we expect this to drag points up, but flying on points will always be cheaper than paying with cash. Airlines may implement a points tiered system similiar to KrisFlyer to regulate seats. 5. Change fees are becoming more lenient, but beware of fare differences when you change. Best to book well in advance to lock in lower fares. Submit your travel/points question for next week's chat. [email protected]
